Nice upgrade. I work on in-ground pools but once in a while people come to me with the typical above ground pools issues. They never like the price ("But that's more than I paid for the whole POOL!"), but they never quit thanking me for the results. Usually they have paid through the nose on pool chems already, trying to compensate for the toy pump and filter's innate shortcomings. The pump and filter which comes with the pool are great...if you install the pool indoors and no one ever gets in it!
Works better than I expected. I feel really warm water coming in from the pump after it goes thru the solar mat. We also use a solar blanket which works great.
Very nice.... Great ingenuity with the cleanest setup. I have a Summer Waves 16'X48" which I already bought an Intex 2800 pump/sand filtration unit. Just waiting on parts to finally arrive. THX. for the video.
I did it man i got me a used duraglass pool pump because thier the best built pumps around paired it with a 1988 c800 hayward cartridge filter pluged it in and it works but thier so much back pressure because of the power of the pump and having 1 return so i added a 1 and 1/2 t to the return and pipped a waterfall out of 1 and 1/2 inch piping and my pressure runs at 7 psi i love it man cleared up my tiny pool in two hours now i need to get me a kreepy krauly kruiser or wahoo cleaner and hook my cleaner to the pump side
We did this using a Hayward sand filter and 2 hp pump, don't worry about getting adapter kits, just use proper pool eyeball inlet fittings that use 1.5' hose to start with and also one of the best upgrades to do is cut in a proper wide mouth skimmer, then you can use the existing inlets as vacuum ports and you have skimming which is the only thing to get the debris out before it falls to the bottom.
A 2hp pump is WAY over powered and is VERY DANGEROUS on this type of pool.do to entrapment issues. 3/4hp is all you need. However plumbing with a skimmer and returns is a better way to do the plumbing. I was planing on selling this pool and did when I stated my in ground. So I did not want to modify the pool.
@@AquanutAcademy I do have the skimmer + i also have the other inlet cracked open too so should be safe for entrapment issues, (the pump and filter came off an old 28' pool that got taken down soon after it had a pump n filter update so that's why i use the 2hp)
Thank you. My hillbilly stock tank pool could use some extra features and a better pump/filter. Will definitely do this at end of season or if I have to drain it. We are one week in and water is clear and bright and all in spec. We needed a inexpensive way to cool off.
We always use clear pvc cleaner prior to gluing. You should have used another 3 way on the return side. So you can regulate your water flow on the water feature.
A trichlor tablet feeder should be installed after everything including the filter. However this is a cal-hypo tablet feeder that was installed. Please see the NST feeder install video.
Great video. We've been through several intex style pools. The last one we bought the kids was that same pool but it's the 18' one with the windows in it. The first thing that should have been listed in directions is to chunk that crappy ass filter setup into the trash😂. But they don't tell you that because that's where they're making the money is off of those cheap paper filter cartridges. They already know that those small cheap little filters aren't sufficient enough to maintain water quality in a pool that size, they're just banking on people being ignorant enough to not know better lol. I have ours hooked up to a 3,300 GPH flow rated sand filter/ pump and our pool stays crystal clear all season long with only basic maintenance that consist of weekly vaccuming and backwashing💪😎.
So, if I'm not mistaken, you aren't putting these pipes together properly. Why no PVC primer? it's meant to soften the PVC to help adherence. In fact in homes if you don't do this, you always come back for cracks, leaks, and broken pipes. You also did not install any connectors for disassembly at any point meaning all this needs to be cut out if there is ever anything wrong, something needs to be replaced, or moved/added...
There was no need for primer for this installation with the glue I was using. It has been tested upto 300psi with no issues. This system is 10 to 15 PSI max. About the same as on a DWV system. 20 years. Thousands of pools 0 issues. I do use primer underground. There are unions in every place that needs them. More unions on this super basic system then most pool systems. So there's that. Also a pro would cut a pipe to change something without a thought if needed. We do it daily. Thanks for watching.
Great video man. Very detailed and perfect for people who are first time pool owners. I don’t understand what entrapment is though... you talked about it in your description.
Thank you for the step by step. Now idk if this will help my problem. I have an 18x4 and it was turning green turning I added algae killer and colorín and now it’s white. I have the same crappy filter as you.
Amazing video, I bought an above ground pool from Costco (12'x22'x48") and realized I had to upgrade the crappy pump and sand filter as it was just not circulating the water and had an algae bloom. Just connects the new pump & cartridge filter and the power is Amazing. I am looking at adding PVC pipes to make it look better. Can you show a video on adding a skimmer to the pool along with how the vacuum port works? Thanks you from California.
Thank you for this video! We upgraded to a Hayward pump and cartridge filter and the water is crystal clear and so easy to keep perfectly balanced. My issue is so many tiny bubbles in the pool - and some foam on top. I think it’s because the pump is just so powerful. Can we easily add a second return jet to an intex vinyl to 50/50 the return water force? My intex vinyl is 16x9x48
I had one and it sssuuuuuuckkkksss it barely gave suction and it had a poopy jet, with the right amount chlorine and alkaline my pool still became green cause of the filter
First, love all videos on this pool. I am going on 3 1/2 yrs w this pool. I took y advise and bought my pump at lowes f $125 w a coupon I found a huge tank at a junk yard f $35 and they through in pev pipes and I started the process watching y vodeo 25 times to get things right because I am not at handyman and have no man to help me. However, its been a min and i am leaking water from the holes inwhich the hoses attach it leaks along the sides.i just did the pipe setup not the foutain, no famciness here. Write me w advice please. After i fixed this pool clean and beautiful 8 mins flat great system
Wow, Thank you. Unfortunately I don't why you have a leak so I can be no help on this forum. Go to our Facebook group "Swimming Pool & spa owners" Post video and photos there so I can see the issue. Tag me
One of the Chlorinator t's u have there should be after the filter.. In from pump and out from filter.. You don't want the chlorine going into the filter
Will that soft wall pool support a skimmer? I'm scared to cut the pool wall and end up with a ruined pool. But my other worry is the skimmer weight tearing that pool?
Covid slowed me down on my pool ventrues. I've decided to go with the hayward 1 hp super pump, a waterco pre-filter, an in-line chlorinator, and a 240 sq ft cartridge filter. The pool is the Intex 18 X 52, Suggestions welcomed. The one question I have is this; why are there 2 hoses going out from the pool to the pump? Is it to relieve the pressure it would put on the soft sided pool?
Thanks, I found this very helpful. I know very little about this type of plumbing but I think that I get a conversion kit Ill be able to upgrade to a bigger pump. So this is a cartridge filter? Would a sand filter not be a better option?
Great i had just seen videos on how to upgrade my filter to the intex sand filters and was like ok cool i can do this ...then i saw this video and my "upgrade" is a crappy filter...ohh man
@@AquanutAcademy i mean is the sand filter that bad? It has to be an upgrade to the one it came with ...its an 18 foot summer waves with a paper filter .whats the knock on sand filters.
Don't get me wrong brother. You were the one that said you had a crap filter. I have no problems with sand filters but I have no idea of which filter that you have. You're right anything is an improvement over what comes with the pool.
0:40 Argh! I KNEW you were going to say "everything is based on this!" and refer to the GAME 40mm to 1.5" Conversion Kit for Intex & Bestway Pools, WHICH IS NO LONGER BEING MADE! I can't find it in stock anywhere. If you know somewhere, let me know! Otherwise I've heard a PVC 2" threaded connector works if you use a lot of pipe tape. I may have to try that.
Unfortunately plumbing is more of an art. It depends on what you have going on there what steps you will take and on what order. The 1st thing however will be to make a good level base for everything to sit on. Good luck.
i purchased a hayward skimmer, plugged the 2 original holes and only use the skimmer with an aftermarket 1 1/2 hp pump, hayward sand filter then return through the original inlet...isnt a real skimmer much better than using the 2 original?
hello, what is the 100% most simple way to do this? CAn't I just use a set of those adapters and a couple hoses? I have a Harris Proforce filter and pump. Instead of using PVC cant I just use hoses and a couple adapters? I want the cheapest, most simple, ghetto set-up possible. Thanks
Have you considered using a standard hayward pool return through the wall and going straight pvc? I see guys installing the hayward through the wall skimmer and was wondering why not just upgrade to the wall fittings for low suction and returns.
I did that on my last one. This one I knew I was going to sell when I started building my inground. So I did not want to Alter it from manufacturer specs.
I have a Coleman pool and trying to convert it to a Sandollar filter having a hard time finding the conversion fittings going from 2 inches to an inch and a half.
Do you have a video on plumbing an above ground pool with pvc all the way from skimmer to pump to filter to pool intake? I am not a plumber, but I have installed a lot of potable water pvc lines as well as irrigation lines. I cannot get a good connection at the skimmer. Do you recommend a conversion kit?
Thanks for this video! I have the same pool and had to close it early last year because the filter was so crappy. I was reading your comments in the description about entrapment. What does that mean?
That is a whole nother video. It is talking about the Virginia, Graeme, Baker Act. in short there is a chance that someone could get sucked to the suction ports and not be able to free themselves.
Fantastic video! Do you have any issues going from the 2" down to the 1.5". I see that you have a 1 hp pump, not sure what your pool size is, but no doubt it should be clean with all the power it has behind it. I currently have a 1.5 variable speed Hayward pump, but due to our move our water use is limited to say the least and we have to go with the filter cartridge instead of the sand filter we had. My main point is the 2" down to the 1.5, since the filter you are currently using is for in ground pools and the one I'm getting is the same...for in ground use.
I have the same Bestway 20ft x 48in pool. I am replacing the filter pump with a Hayward sand filter and pump (S1667t). Do I need to ground and bond the pool? And why? I'm getting sooo many mixed answers.
We have an intex rectangular 16x32x52 14,000 + gallon pool. I see some ppls pictures and videos with 2 intakes but ours only came with 1 intake and 1 return on the pool. We are going to put in a wall skimmer, very nerve racking but the floating skimmer just doesn’t do the job. If we install the wall skimmer should we connect that to the regular intake with a T connector to the pump or should we plug the existing intake so that just the skimmer is the only intake. Also we had someone give us a 325sq ft cartridge filter and we needed a pump. Got a good deal on a second hand but it was sold as a set up with a 200 sq ft cartridge filter. came with the platform and the pump is a 2 hp 2 speed pump. We are trying to decide if we should stick with the filter(200 sq ft) that came with the pump or would the 325 sq ft filter be better. Thanks
Definitely use the T Larger filter is better NO on yhe 2hp pump. That will be dangerous. Sell that one and look at the black&Decker video I have there is a link there you can buy a good ABG VS pump
Question for you. I have a traditional 15' round above ground pool that is 5,300 gallons. I currently have the Hayward CC10080S XStream 1 HP Above-Ground Pool Filter Pump System. This system is just over one year old and a couple of weeks ago, the pump motor stopped working. Luckily we had purchased an extended warranty and I was refunded the entire purchase amount (Pheeeeww). My question is, I was want to upgrade to a better pump and was curious if it is possible to go with something like the "Hayward Super Pump" which is an in-ground pool pump? It looks like your pool pump might be an in-ground model possibly?
Yes. What I have is a pump made for inground pools. That only means it's self priming. The pump you had is fine. Must have been a fluke. What you don't want to do is go over 1hp unless you buy a VS pump.
Here's my affiliate links to some pumps that will work for you. First we have an above ground pool pump. amzn.to/2UcwHk1 Next is a variable speed pump which I highly recommend. amzn.to/3xHpnu8
@@AquanutAcademy So it is okay to go with an in-ground pump like the Hayward Super Pump 1 HP if I want to get a better performing pump? Would I simply wire in a 3 prong plug to plug into a GFCI outlet?
Hey can you recommend a pump for a 22x12x52 inch Coleman pool? If I get that kit you recommend can I attach any pump to my pool? How many hp usually is the pump that comes with it and what hp Would I need ?
There are pump filter kit upgrades that your local pool store will sell. It will be easier to install and more simple to use. The system that I put on is made for inground pools and it way over kill. The HP does not matter to much as long as you get the flow you need. I would say for a pool your size from a 1/2 to 1 HP should be good. but no more then 1.
@@AquanutAcademy ok thank you. I ordered one at .75 hp but they keep telling me they aren’t for soft sided pools but I don’t think they know how many RU-vid videos I’ve watched. It doesn’t matter right ??
PSI on this one is about 5 and I could go up to 25 on this pool with no issuse. Scd40 can go over 100 PSI easy. scd40 can be out in the sun for decades with no issues.
@@AquanutAcademy Just an overkill or will I have issues? It's the Pentair SuperFlo 1.5HP Standard Efficiency 340039. I found the pump for pretty cheap so I just got it. I have added Hayward skimmer to my pool. The outlet on that is 1.5inch. I have two outlets and two returns now. One of the old outlets I turned into a return. The whole piping is PVC 1.5" I have the pump paired with Hayward W3C12002 StarClear Plus Cartridge Pool Filter, 120 Square Foot and Pentair Mastertemp 125 heater. I am waiting for electricity and gas to be connected. I can change the pump if it will cause an issue. I plan to add a water fall/water fountain as well later.
@@AquanutAcademy It seems to be perfectly fine. I can't believe how great the new skimmer works. Surface of the pool stays super clean. I had the pool heated to 93 degrees. Felt like a jacuzzi lol.
An overkill filtration system really cuts down on chemicals needed. My 18ft above ground pool has a pump for a 25,000 gallon pool. The damn pool has a current 🤣🤣🤣
I would need to see what you are talking about. And "glue tape"? do you mean Teflon tape. We have a facebook group "swimming pool and spa owners" you can post pics and vids there, we may be able to help you better.
Hello, I see that you have 2 outs and a return, did you do the hole for the return yourself? My pool only has 2 and I need a third for the return. It is a rectangular one.
That's odd. You should have 2 suction ports and 1 return. I knew I was going to be selling this pool as soon as I started on my in ground so I did not make any modifications to the pool itself. However your local pool store can sell you add on ports
I have this pool. With the same crap pump. U confused me with the 2 new pumps lol. Could I jus get a 1.5 hp pump? So I can vacuum it as well? Can’t figure how to vacuum with this crap pump
DO NOT GET A 1.5hp pump. that is way over kill and dangerous. I only put one pump and one filter on in this video. I also put a vac port on. I will be doing a video shortly on just the vac port. thanks.
So Im wanting to install a water feature to pump the pool came with. Im having issues finding connectors to tee off from the discharge side hose. Any tips?
WATCH NEXT: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-26MbkRv0RMw.html Some people have messaged me, that there could be an entrapment issue with a single suction port. However this is a double suction port. Even still there could be an entrapment issue if one of the suction side hoses collapse. There for I recommend talking to your pool professional before making modifications to your pool. There are 2 things that need to be done here. #1 I need a smaller pump. A 1/2hp would be better. #2 I need to add a skimmer in addition to the suction ports. To not only insure against entrapment but also to help clean the pool.
