@@stn6408 the battery is the big black thign on the botton left of the video, you just have to disconnet the little cables that comes out of it right in the middle of the top. Don't forget to connect it back again
@@ZackEberly also ty for this video I have the same laptop and also I have a question, should I put extra 8gb ram or shall I put 16gb ram bcz it says dual power something something I guess
Well dual channel ram has double the peak data bandwidth than 2 different types of ram like I did in my laptop. Do I care not really. Should have I cared, yes cuz I could’ve had more performance. I recommend if you want 16gb of ram total. Buy a dual channel ram with each stick being 8gb for a total of 16gb. They’ll just come in a kit like that.
Couple of things for people tha want to upgrade there Asus tuf. Try to use the same memory sometimes 2 random Ram modules dont work. If you try to upgrade your harddrive TAKE THE TRAY OUT. if you bend the harddrive that way like he did it you might break the connector. The harddrive is in a metal bay thats connected with 2 screws so you dont have to pull it up.
@@ZackEberly its okay. Most laptops use that type of bracket idea. First you install the drive in the bracket and then install the bracket into the laptop.
does anyone know what the stock ram brand is? i’m planning on just adding 1 8gb of ram next to the stock one and wondering what the brand is so they both can be the same
@@snookfishingfl212 best thing is to check for yourself than you always know if you have the same one. Mine had 1slot with a stick called ---sk hinux 8gb 1rx8 pc4 2666v It can vary from country and or where it is shiped to.
I'm actually not her for an upgrade I'm here because I need to replace my hard drive because of a smart error. You were the only one who has the same model as mine
@@funhub3993 it's much better now. With the ram i can multitask much easier and having my programs installed on the SSD as opposed to an external usb harddrive, they load MUCH faster
@Gavri Daniel do you mean it turns back off after that one second? If so, then just check to make sure all the connections are tight and secure and that everything is back where it should be. What did you upgrade specifically, ram, ssd or both?
Great video! I am going to add an SSD to mine since it only has the M.2. I just wanted to make sure there was a spot for it before I take this thing apart. Thanks!
@@sarthak1317 By contrast, M.2 is only a connector, which plugs into the PCIe bus interface. Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) is a technology for storing data that is fast enough and low-enough latency to connect to the PCIe bus interface via the M.2 connector. This gives you some options. You can get an M.2 drive that accesses the SATA bus instead of the PCIe bus, which is convenient but doesn’t max out the connection speed. Or, you can get NVMe drive that accesses the PCIe bus and gets all the speed and latency benefits that come with that. From what I can tell the fx504 will support either one. NVMe is faster but probably more expensive
@@sarthak1317 there is one slot for m.2 sata ssd (in which currently the hdd is present) and one slot for m.2 nvme ssd. Mind it, you can't add nvme ssd to the slot of the hdd . and neither the sata ssd to nvme slot. hope that helps.
Very nice job, you makes seems it very easy, your video inspires me to upgrade my asus laptop, even when I don’t have wide knowledge about informatic themes, thank you!
The frame of the disc comes out with only 2 screws (6:52 - the one on the right side of your finger to the right (close to the left speaker) and the other one close to the M.2 screw). Then you can easely remove the HDD from the frame and replace with another one.
Always shy about upgrading laptops. Just got a TUF 705DT same style/build and it's exactly the same to upgrade. Nice to have a walkthrough though! Thanks!
Welp rip I just bought a hyperX fury 16 gb ram and I opened my laptop only to find out I don’t think the chip fits it’s a 288 pin idk what the asus comes with but I don’t think it fits
Nice video man i got the same laptop today i upgrade it with an ssd 970 plus evo and a total capacity of 16 gb ram but the opening time is approximately 10 seconds whats wrong ? How much time do your laptop make to open and close ?
There's nothing wrong with it. My takes longer cuz of more programs. The more cores your CPU has the longer it takes to boot, my gaming desktop says it takes 22 second, Ryzen 3700x, x570, 32GB DDR4 Ram, RTX 2070, WD 500GB NVME M.2
So I know this is a common problem with this laptop and was wondering if you knew of a way to fix it, every hour or so it freezes and I have to completely restart the computer, task manager doesn’t even work. After I upgraded the ram to 16 gigs it seems to freeze every four hours, so it helped but didn’t solve the problem. Any ideas?
Hey thanks for the video! I am about to disassemble my laptop and wanted to know what screwdriver to get for it. What should be the measurements of the screwdriver?
I haven't opened mine yet, and I don't feel like doing so just for exploratory surgery. What is the brand of the stick that comes in the laptop? I can't seem to find that answer and I want to match the sticks' brand and speed before I order the part, let alone attempt to install it.
I'm a little new to all this, do you not have to back up windows and put it on a USB stick to recover once you're done? Or can you literally just put the new components in and be fine?
If your not removing your upgrading the boot drive then you don't need to do anything about windows. In my case, windows was on my m.2 drive and I didn't touch it. I added another SSD for extra storage and I did nothing with windows. If you do want to upgrade your laptop's boot drive then you will need windows installation usb drive. its free with the windows creation tool. Also prolly want a backup of your stuff.
Hello mate, I consulted ASUS regarding the hardware update; according to their suggestion for my FX504, I'm allowed to install 2 x 16GB DDR RAM by getting rid of 2 x 8GB of DDR RAM. As for SSD, that'd be P3 x 4 256GB M2 2280 NVME P; may I know what's your SSD capacity, and I wanna know if there'll be any space left for an extra HDD?
Only if you want to clone your existing m.2 ssd. I cloned to save my data on my 2.5in SSD which you don't have, so no. There is no reason for you to clone.
I’m guessing you already have a m.2 ssd as your boot drive. For a 2.5in ssd I’d recommend a Samsung or Kingston ssd. Whatever size storage you want a 500gb cost around 50 dollars.
@@ZackEberly When I bought my laptop I chose a laptop without an SSD (the price was cheaper). So my laptop doesn't have SSD yet. Wow, 50 dollars can get a 500GB SSD. Can you name the brand in detail? Like what Samsung... or what Kingston...
Wait. So you have a hard drive then? Are you sure. You can check by going to task manger and click on the performance tab and click on drive c. Then type in the product number online to see what it is.
Honestly I wear socks on carpet, not a good idea, but I don’t touch the motherboard so just don’t touch the PCB. Gloves I guess would help a little especially with keeping everything clean.
Hey brother, the video is great! I have a question. Is the cloning process mandatory? or can I directly insert the SSD quietly once the Hard Disk has been removed? That you lose the files I do not care, because the PC I have recently and it does not matter. Thanks and have a nice day!
The cloning process is only to save the files... Making a copy of the first hdd to the ssd. You can insert any ssd to a computer to give it more storage.
I have this laptop but it's specs are i7 8750h. Is the process any different and is the maximum amount of ram upgradable only an extra 8gb? Thanks for the great video as well
@@ZackEberly how do you clone a hdd? Could you possibly make a video on that or can you tell me where I can find a good video explaining it? Thanks for the response btw
@@pebbles9649 There are 2 ways to clone. Software and hardware. Hardware is using a cloning device and is easy to use but cost around 50 dollars. Software is free and i recommend using EASE US. I work in IT and have lost a drive because of not following instructions closely.
Yes, it has a M.2 SSD as a boot drive and I wanted more storage so i added an extra 480gb SSD. I replaced the hard drive in the laptop as you can see and replaced it with the Kingston SSD.
Hi can I Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 SSD 1tb? my laptop is fx504GD i5-8300H and can i use nvme as storage for playing games? or can i install windows there and the game too?
Does enclosure method of cloning works too? Im really scared on doing such stuff and i really need to change my damaged hdd cause its really slowing my laptop and instead i want to change it to ssd.
Not sure what enclosure method is... you mean cloning it to another drive while the HDD is still in your laptop? You can just copy and paste, then change the drive letter to the original drive. Then programs won't know the difference between the new and old drive.
Hey Hopefully I can still receive an answer to this older video, Can I also install a SSD which is bigger then the one you used to this laptop & is the Ram still up to date or is there a newer one which I could get ? Thanks in advance. Moritz
You can use any 2.5in ssd. You want a 8TB ssd go for it. As for the ram, it does work how most upgrades work in the way that your thinking. The laptop supports 2666MHz (or maybe higher) but that isn’t ever going to change. As long as you get the right version and speed/capacity that’s all you need.
Hi Zack! I have the same laptop as you. I added a 16Gb DDR4 2666MHz 1.2V HyperX RAM, but I can't get my laptop to read the new memory correctly. The following happens to me: I connect the 16Gb RAM to Slot1, the 8Gb (which came on my laptop) to Slot2 and it detects only 16Gb. Slot1: 8Gb; Slot2: 16Gb; 8Gb is detected Slot1: 16Gb; Slot2: 16Gb; 16Gb is detected (both are the same RAM that I mentioned at the beginning of the message) Slot1: 16Gb; Slot2: empty; 8Gb is detected. I do not understand what's happening. I asked a friend for help and he helped me update the BIOS but it did not solve the problem. Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong or how to solve it? Maybe the RAM I bought is not compatible? I hope you read me! Thanks anyway!
That is very weird. So you would get a total of 24gb of ram correct? Check the ram when your in the bios and see what it recognize as, like the speed and the full size. It might be a windows problem not using all the available ram.
I have an ASUS TUF FX 504. Do you know if I can put another SSD (stay with two) or let my USSD (256GB) plus add a HD of 1 TB (non-ussd)? Does it have just one slot or it has two slots?
Hello. I would like to consult I have the same laptop I want to add more ram memory currently I have SK Hynix 2666mhz 8GB Could I buy a different brand of RAM but with the same specifications? Could the dual channel be activated? Thank you
Dude, i have the same laptop, its came with PCIE ssd, i bought a kingston A400s sata3 ssd, but i dont have the screws there, what can i do? Working without screws?
Hey man great video I've just got one question I wanna upgrade the ram on Mine but do I need to replace my current stick with two 8gb or just add another 8 GB and if so what will be a matching stick ?
@@wilkiesxgaming I kinda did answer your question. NO you don't have to replace the current one but there might be some performance lose, and no it won't be a matching stick. You'd have to get dual channel memory
I'm afraid that is a problem with this laptop. Luckily I haven't experienced any problems yet but I'm taking extra care of mine. IF you have it in warranty yet you might be able to get it fixed.
@@ZackEberly bro for how many years do you have the laptop? On mine at the left bottom hinge the red and black plastic is seperating when closing it. Any idea how to fix it?
The clips that hold it together could be broken but the screws would hold in then. Apply some force... maybe take it off line up the front first then pop in sides and then the back.
Hey i have the i7 variant of this pc and a few months ago i started havimg problems with the hinges and im pretty sure this is a common problem on this laptop have you ever had that kind of problem with this laltop? If so do you have any recommendations on how to fix it?
I have heard other people having this problem. As far as I know unless you still have your warranty on the laptop I don’t think there is a fix. Unless you’d salvage one form another laptop but I wouldn’t suggest that.
