Today, while setting up our Christmas Tree Lights, I finally decided to replace my old mechanical plug in timers which are the ones that I have been using for years to smart plugs. Smart plugs have been going down in price and this year, you will find most of them for less than $10 bucks. We will take a look at the TP-Link Tapo Smart Plug Mini (P105). It comes in a 4 pack and it directly connects to your WIFI and doesn't need a hub...so setting up is pretty easy.

I just plugged all of my Xmas lights around the house into smart plugs. I then added all of the smart plugs to Alexa and set up a routine that turns them all on/off each day at certain times. I've been doing it this way for several years and other than the occasional odd occurrence of waking up to find the lights have turned themselves on in the middle of the night, it works pretty well.

We have a beefier one attached in our garage (the kind you'd put an AC unit on or space heater), that runs all our outside lights, I have the plug in home assistant at sunset to turn on all the outside holiday lights and all the christmas trees inside too. As we have a sleepnumber bed, so when my wife and I go to bed it detects we are there, it turns off all holiday lights. I have to imagine this has saved us some electricity over the years.

Just just did the same for my parents, they were looking all around for the timer while I just plugged in a smart plug, set it up in google home and set a schedule/routine

Oh, yes!!! Smart plugs are a winner for me. Have them all over the place for Christmas lights and for other stuff as well. Routine setup for scheduling and groups and stuff. Love them! No home in time to plugin Christmas lights? No worries! Hahaha.

My mom had those old fashioned ones like you had, I replaced them all with Feit smart plugs, they work great.

I have about 20 of these (Meross brand) around my house controlling almost all my lights. I even stopped using the "pins" in the hot water circulating pump, I just leave it set to "on" and use a plug to start and stop it relative to sunrise and sunset.

Thanks for your awesome video, it came at the right time when my dlink home smart plugs are near the end of service, i already have tapo cams installed in my Singapore & Batam homes, will definitely add these tapo wifi smartplugs into my arsenal hahaha

Smart plug is the future for saving on electricity bill ... Reolink has out a new floodlight Poe.. you should do a review on that.. TP stuff is good i have a few products from them..

Come on LH, of all people to have smart plugs I just knew you would have them 🤣. I have numerous aquariums that I use to cut on/off the lights. Hint: Under Smart Action you can have the lights cut off after a preset duration of being on.

Thank you…adding those features will just add to the price. You have to weigh what you need to use it for… for $6.75, it has voice control, can set a schedule, program routines with Alexa, Google, smart things..

This plug has a 15 amp max. It will depend on the heater that you have.

I haven’t found one that whistle like the vivint cameras but there are a lot that sounds a tone or an quick alarm tone like Reolink WiFi cameras, EZVIZ, etc…and a spoken warning like with Ring wired cameras.
