Also You Need To Make Sure Your 120v Power Converter Is Lithium Ion Battery Compatible And In That Setting And Not On Lead Acid Or AGM Otherwise You May Damage Your System

Yeah, I had to replace my 120V charge controller when I did my lithium upgrade. It added about another $140 to the cost, but I got rid of 2 x 100Ah LA batteries for a single 230Ah lithium. Best money I've spent on my RV.

@@BigTruckBigRV Sorry for the late reply. My comment wasn't based around a specific model, so much as the poster that indicated that you do need to verify that your converter supports lithium batteries. Even though my RV was a 2018 model year, I still had to upgrade the converter as part of my lithium update.

You can run a conventional converter with lithium without a problem. The only thing that happens is the charging voltage on a conventional converter isn’t enough to charge the lithium batteries to more than 80%.
@TheFiremanJoe

JD you need to make sure that your converter will support a Lithium battery!

Use some RTV to seal those two vent caps on the battery box to seal out the rain...no need to vent a lithium battery.
@ronpearson1790
@ronpearson1790 14 дней назад
That was a lot of water in that box! Had to be from condensation. Also through my research, it's been said that fans don't like the higher voltage of lithium batteries. Particularly the circuit boards of the Maxx Air fans. The issue is being addressed by the fan manufactures but people are putting DC-DC converters in line with their fans to ensure the fan only gets 12v.

Does your 120vac to 12vdc converter support the battery? Are you planning to install a DC to DC converter from the truck charging circuit?
@michaelramsey3643
@michaelramsey3643 14 дней назад
An easier but messier option would be to disconnect the alternator charging and plug a 110v LifePo4 charger into an outlet in the bed, connecting it to the battery. Whether any on-road charging is needed depends on your solar setup - if you have a big solar array, it may not be worth the trouble.

This really isn't a concern for Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries used in these applications. The following was taken from ev-magazine online webpage and verifiable from many other sources: _LFP or lithium iron phosphate, also known as LiFePO4, is a completely different chemistry. With a much higher thermal runaway temperature, (some 20° C higher depending on manufacture), the potential for cell rupture due to thermal runaway is well outside of normal operating conditions, even on the hottest of days._ _Further, (and it seems obvious but still bears mention) iron doesn’t burn like manganese. Actual fires due to battery failure, on those rare occasions that they do occur, are limited to wires, and sometimes battery management system (BMS) printed circuit boards. Assuming that the battery casing conforms to NEMA or IP standards, cell fires cannot escape the case unless it’s been punctured._ _Also, the findings of several experiments where cell explosion is forced, have confirmed using gas chromatography that the release of gasses during a cell rupture event are by far the least toxic (containing no transition metal aerosols in contrast with NMC) of the common three lithium chemistries._

Hey you will need a Victron dc to dc converter from the truck. Also surprise the 23 and 24 ford truck will not support he dc to dc with the computer control of the seven pin I had to run a upfitter switch wire to an Anderson connector on the back bumper. Surprise

Good video. If you do use solar? I would get the mppt controller. Made a big difference for me. I bought a different brand battery about 3 years ago. So yes, newer technology back then. Spent quite a bit more plus the extra for a “low temperature” model. Since I had an older model camper, I changed out the converter. The research I did back then? For my battery it was said you could use a regular charger, but since their lithium battery gets charged at a higher voltage; using a regular lead acid type would never fully charge the battery. I did run into a camper with the same model trailer that did not change his converter and was happy with his. I boondock most of the time, so every bit of power can be precious. for me it was nice being able to charge the battery quite a bit faster with the new converter. Anyway, to each their own. People need to research what their equipment is capable of doing. Most newer campers I understand come with converts capable to charging lithium, but don’t just go off that! Research.

Do I need the solar charge controller if I do not have solar panels? I just want to use shore power or my generator to do the charging? Will this drop in just for that?
@Gubers
@Gubers 14 дней назад
You do not need a solar charge controller unless you are using solar panels. All that does is manage the charge coming from solar panels. You do need a converter charger that can be set to or detect Lithium battery chemistry though. Some newer models in newer RV's have Lithium compatible converter chargers but the vast majority of those from before 1-2 years ago do not. You aren't going to cause some massive problem by dropping in a Lithium battery, but you may shorten the life of your battery and not get optimal performance unless you use a Lithium compatible converter charger.

You know most installed these inside for a few reasons. Theft and temperature, obviously cold isn't good but neither is hot. Looking at the black box you placed this in and the climate I would think you're going to have an over temperature situation unless you keep the sun off it. 150F is it's max which I bet you will exceed.

Thanks for the informative video! No solar on our RV. Do I have to change the built in battery charger to use this battery?
@Gubers

Look up the model of the converter charger on your RV. Some newer one's support Lithium and some do not. Mine for example has an auto-detect feature that can detect different type's of battery chemistry and automatically adjusts the charging profile when connected to main 120v power.

Great video. The shore power inverter charger must be configured to charge lithium otherwise the lithium battery will be presently damaged by the inverter charger.
@Gubers
@Gubers 14 дней назад
Sort of. A lot of people have no issues dropping in Lithium batteries. It's not optimal and you may shorten your Lithium battery lifecycle, but it isn't going to just ruin it. Charging the battery in freezing temps will though, so that's a thing people need to be aware of.

They need to make a LiFePO battery with a built-in charging/discharge circuit board that makes it compatible with a lead-acid battery charging system. It can be done.

The BMS in that battery is limited to 100 amps, probably not enough to run a microwave. The BMS is the deciding factor that controls the charge and discharge cycles and also the battery safety. Really the need for outside change protection isn't necessary anymore.

The problem with these Chinese batteries is the inconsistencies from battery to battery. You can buy 10 of these and find that internally they are different inside. There's tons of these Chinese battery options. No idea why you chose this brand. There are some Chinese brands that have a pretty solid reputation over a significant period of time and this isn't one of them. LiTime and Chins are examples. Every one of them including this one is basically one of those Chinese brands that pops up on Amazon and isn't really associated with a real company. No reason to choose this particular one over others IMO. Though, there are 40+ reviews on these. But many others have lots of reviews.
@robertstorms3469
@robertstorms3469 12 дней назад
Rules for buying Chinese products: 1. Do your research. 2. Make sure your product has U.S. based representation and support 3. Read the reviews. Discount any bogus-looking reviews, and if there are too many obvious shills, move along and avoid that product. 4. Buying through Amazon should give you some minimum protections. 5. DO NOT buy ANYTHING from TEMU or Shein! Follow those basic rules, and you should be fine. Yes, China Fakes Everything, but you can get good products when sourced properly. ie: the phone you're probably using right now. I believe at the beginning of the video J.D. mentioned why he went with this brand. They had reached out to him "a while back."
