Are you considering some upgrades to your 10/22®, but aren't sure where to start? Kolby Pavlock discusses some of the common parts upgrades starting with the Volquartsen SureStrike firing pin, Exact Edge extractor, and HP Action Kit. He then moves on to the Volquartsen Competition Bolt, receivers, as well as, barrel options. Kolby also recommends the first upgrade he'd perform to any 10/22®.

My 10/22 was upgraded 10-15 years ago, Volquartsen trigger kit, extended mag release, auto bolt release, bolt buffer and new pistol grip skeleton stock (Choate I think), It is now a marvellous lightweight rabbit rifle. (UK)

many moons ago when volquartsen first offered 10/22 goodies. i bought a helical flute match barrel 1.00 inch. a drop in trigger 2 stage adjustable and the bolt and spring with the nylon buffer pin. then the cantilever scope mount. still have it 30yrs or so later. can keep a 100rd box of cci green tag match in a quarter size post it dot at 100meters with a kahles 30mm straight 12x scope.

I bought my plain Jane 10-22 carbine back in '88. Since then I have swaped out the trigger group for Ruger's after-market refined version and mounted a big, fancy target-type telescopic sight specially made for the .22 long rifle cartridge. Now I have an excellent 50-yard .22 carbine. At a hundred yards, well, that is still a job for mine ancient Great Depression era Model 1933 Savage bolt action with a 25-inch bull barrel and a micrometer-type Lyman peep sight. I am thinking that the disproportionate disparity between group size at 50 yards and group size at 100 yards is due to the parallex adjustment of the scope being set at 50 yards. Since the advent of You Tube, I have watched several videos about how you can convert your 10-22 into a massive money pit. It can get to the point of being silly. Ruger used to have, and probably still does have, a dedicated target model. It would seem to me that your simplest and most cost effective way to a better 10-22 is to just buy the target model to begin with.

Dude I shoot 3" knockovers at 150 with my factory ruger american and aguila comps. $1000 volquartens perform better than ruger with match grade ammo in competion but with most consumer ammo that most people buy you wont see much difference. A world where 2moa @50 yds is considered decent is not a world of precision. If you want true precision set up a match quality .17 mach II. If you wanna have tons of fun blasting steels out to 100 on a cheap 500rd brick than theres no beating a 10-22. I must say the M&P is a fun little zombe slayer too. I suppose the game of bulding your own high end rifle to your taste and shooting at 2" spots @50 with open sights is appealing to a lot of people. Older gentleman as myself no longer have the vision to focus on open sights AND distant targets but 3-9s and red dots work well enough for a good time. Ranging knockovers @100-200 and hitting them with the ruger american/ pride fowler rapid reticle is quite satisfying to me. M&P with red dot is perfect for short range zombie work on the walking courses. Bullpupped 10-22 with firefly bolt, CCI 710s and 3-9 fire dot for night ops. I've thought about building a Volquartzen or Kidd with 2 stage match trigger but I got all 3 of my rifles for almost the price, sans optics of course.

Definitely bought upgrades for 4 10/22 and a Black Mamba, lot os joys doing the upgrades, did not buy receivers or bolts as those are insanely expensive if buying for 4 rifles but also got a trigger kit for a Ruger Mark III, barrels, triggers. other parts, very recommended and the bolts and receivers if you have the cash.

To upgrade your couple hundred dollar 10/22, just replace the receiver ($485), trigger group ($296), bolt ($286), barrel ($368) and stock ($146) and you will have a custom $1581 rimfire and a complete stock 10/22 that you can sell.
@DennisRichardH

That was a list of all the parts you sell. I had hoped you would say, where to begin, and what to do next, then next, then next. The action kit sounds good, but it is not as sexy as most of us hope to do with our dreams of a fancy race gun.

Trigger is always the best place to start. Followed by optic. Extended mag release is also good for quicker reloads. Then how does the stock feel? Upgrade that, then move to barrel etc..

Are the trigger housings metal or polymer? I've had bad luck with polymer parts lately. Busted the saftey and trigger guard on my mossberg 500 several months ago and about 3 weeks ago dropped my ruger and cracked the trigger guard on that.

@Volquartsen My Volquartsen carbon fiber barrel's accuracy sucks. Is there a break-in period? It's in a Feddersen reciever and KRG chassis. Barrel is free floated. It won't shoot any standard ammo under 2" at 50y and Federal Match sucks too.

For 10/22
@mikeprice3705
@mikeprice3705 Месяц назад
I absolutely love my 10/22, but if I want to start precision bullseye target shooting, the 10/22 is not the platform I would choose. Even one which is heavily modified. There are far, far better rifles out there for that and, yes, you will pay far more. But if you're serious about that hobby, that's the smartest choice. Oh yeah, and I have a rule: Never, EVER put more money into "upgrading" a gun than the gun actually costs. It's simply not worth it on any level and you won't get more than marginal improvements in accuracy. (Those can only be had by becoming a better marksman.)
@General.Legion

The carbon fiber barrel does not work well with a suppressor. The gap between the barrel and the sleeve makes it inaccurate with a suppressor.
@volquartsencustom
@volquartsencustom 2 месяца назад
Our current Lightweight Carbon Fiber barrel design prevents this because the actual stainless-steel barrel is the treaded portion.

Question? If the 10/22 is such a great rifle(10/22 owners will always tell you that) why do many replace just about every component in and on it? My 10/22 is the only firearm I ever sold, it was alright but far from the best .22 I ever owned. I look at them as the VWBug of firearms, pretty good but common as dirt and easy to modify! If you want a match grade rifle your better off just spending the money on one in the first place.
@beefpanda744
@beefpanda744 Месяц назад
In my case it comes down to rules in my shooting competition. We’re only allowed to use certain type stocks barrels accessories ect and the 10/22 is the easiest and most common 22 platform to modify into exactly what you want to meet restrictions. For example no thumbholes or pistol grips the only stock this company makes that we can use is the sporter stock. And all flutted barrels are banded to keep you from getting a lighter barrel (carbon fiber barrels are allowed though)
@delphic464
@delphic464 28 дней назад
To use your VW Bug analogy, upgrading a 10/22 is inexpensive and easy (compared to other firearms). You can find a fully pimped out VW Baja Bug but you never learned how all the parts go together, interact with each other, and how to easily fix problems that may come up. Also, there is a huge 10/22 community. You can get really cool upgrades from small, independent shops, and get amazing support and guidance from passionate, knowledgeable, and patient fellow shooters. Mostly, it's a fun hobby and even on a budget, you can create a really fun rifle by building it up over time as finances allow.
@waynemanning3262
@waynemanning3262 28 дней назад
@@delphic464 I totally agree, easy to work on lots of affordable accessories to make a fun affordable pinker. The large capacity magazines are a problem though, who cannot resist a mag dump with a full mag! That was great when you could get a brick of ammo for $15 and unlimited supply. But I think some of these guys out there spending well over $1000 to make a target rifle is ridiculous, just go buy one to start with! I sold mine because of all my .22s it was the most frustrating to keep reliable.

Why is it that the Ruger rifles need so many upgrades? Ruger rifles are already the most over-priced production rifles in the US, they should need this many mods.
