McNaughton-McKay’s Drives Product Manager, Bruce Karjala, has created this video to provide an aid when it comes to uploading/downloading and saving files using Rockwell Automation’s Connected Components Workbench with PowerFlex drives. We will connect the PF525 drive using the DSI serial port with a 1203-USB cable. Many drives are connected via Ethernet to Compact or Control Logix processors, and using the add on profiles, the drives back up parameters and settings are stored in the ACD file of the PLC. The 1203-USB is an excellent tool for you to be able to back up if you are using any communications to the PowerFlex drive. The 1203 USB has a cable that connects to your PC USB port, then an anaconda converter to the drive cable with the DSI RJ485 plug. This connects to the red DSI port of the PF525. All component class drives in the PF family like the 4, 4M, 40, 400 and 520 series use this same connection. The 1203-USB also comes with a DPI cable for connection to architecture class drives such as the 70, 700s and 750 series. Once we connect the cable from the PC to the drive, the green light on the anaconda will begin to flash green establishing the connection. We will then use Connected Components Workbench to access the drive via the 1203-USB.

Tks for video. I have a question, can you help me? Is there a way to get all the data from the Powerflex 525 over Ethernet without an Allen-Bradley software or get data (parameter:basic display) from Connect Components Workbench?
@mcnaughtonmckay
@mcnaughtonmckay 4 года назад
Hello, Yes, you can get this data from Connected Components Workbench over Ethernet but you cannot do this without Allen Bradley software. If you have further questions or concerns, please reach out to your local Rockwell Automation distributor.

Hello, Please contact your local Rockwell Distributor to purchase DriveExecutive (catalog #: 9303-4DTE01ENE). Then you can download it from the following website: compatibility.rockwellautomation.com/Pages/home.aspx If you are local to one of our branches, we would be happy to assist you: www.mc-mc.com/locations

This will not work in multi-drive mode that are utilizing 5 devices on one node. Is there way a to pull parameters off devicenet, using the scanner module in CCW or do you have to use driveexcutive with RSnetworx
@mcnaughtonmckay
@mcnaughtonmckay 11 месяцев назад
Sorry for the delayed response! Both CCW and DriveExecutive can be used to connect to the drive over DeviceNet if you are using a 22-COMM-D or 25-COMM-D adapter. We recommend using CCW as it is an active software product from Rockwell Automation receiving new features + patches. Alternately, the PowerFlex 525 parameters can be backed up with a USB connection when the drive is unpowered. Refer to the PowerFlex 525 User Manual for more details: literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/um/520-um001_-en-e.pdf If you have any additional questions, please reach out to your local Rockwell Automation distributor!

Hello, will this program work with a PowerFlex 4M drive? It has a RS485 port
@mcnaughtonmckay
@mcnaughtonmckay Год назад
Hello, Yes, PowerFlex 4M drives can be programmed with CCW. Once in CCW, create a new project and name it respectively. Then, under the Add device selection screen click the Drives drop-down menu. The PowerFlex 4M drive will appear under the “PowerFlex 4-Class” folder. If you have further questions or concerns, please reach out to your local Rockwell Automation distributor for personalized support.

Is the .ccwsln the only file that's required as a backup? I also have a .ccwsuo in my folder, what is this for?
@mcnaughtonmckay
@mcnaughtonmckay 2 года назад
Hi Martin, Here's some info that might be helpful: .ccwsln - CCW Project File - This is the file extension of the project that is saved. This contains all devices/trends in the Project Organizer when the project was saved. Note: This file cannot be opened unless it is located in the original directory it was created in. A user cannot transfer a .ccwsln out of the project folder and open it alone. The entire project folder must be sent with the .ccwsln file to be opened. .ccwsuo--This file keeps track of where all the pieces of the project are located. Bottom line - CCW creates them and it's best to leave them as they are. If you have further questions or concerns, we recommend reaching out to your local Rockwell Automation distributor for personalized support.

Hi Arun, Double check that your wiring exactly matches the diagrams shown on page 11 of the Quick Start Guide (literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/qs/520-qs001_-en-e.pdf). You can also check your digital ins under parameter 14, detailed on page 19 of the Quick Start Guide, and follow the Smart Start-Up guide which starts on page 21. If you need further assistance, please contact Rockwell Automation as these drives qualify for free support from Rockwell Technical Support.
