The crazy thing is, everyone knows how important wrestling is to fighting. Wrestling is the most effective background to have. Yet videos like this don’t get much attention. And I think it’s because lessons like this go over peoples heads. It requires years of hard grappling to understand the value of hip-in body locks and throws. Wrestling is an investment most people don’t make, but it’s an investment that those who find success do. Very few, just like the views on this video, Will make that investment.
Thanks, coach! Really excited for this series. Could you explain a little more, though, the reasoning of the back leg hand palm down? I'm not sure I understand why that's an important mechanic.
The sharp part of your wrist (the side with your thumb) is used to crush his ribcage. It is painful, you’ll know you’ve got it right when you feel it. Gripping the other way will squeeze his ribs with the meaty part of your forearm, which doesn’t work nearly as well (it’s not sharp).
coach,my opponent is bigger than me and I can't lift him,so what takedown can I do when I get the side bodylock? you taught a swing leg takedown from the bodylock, does the swing leg need to lift my opponent?
Are you a heavyweight? Why is your opponent so much bigger than you? You should be able to lift heavier opponents if you're technique is correct; keep working out and getting stronger too, that will help.
well,I mean in class, all of my training partner are bigger than me. my weight is 67kg,the lightest of my training partners is 80 kg,so does the takedown without lift work in your opinion if I can't lift my training partner?
I like the leg trip version, it works on everyone. Being taller is an advantage, but the small guy makes up for it with strength and a low center of gravity.
You are right… a good place to start is by banging in 1 underhook, and then trying to get a 2nd. Take a look at my full curriculum at www.WrestleDynamic.com where I have an entire unit about upper body wrestling.
