A hike and overnight wildcamp at Shepherds Meeting Stones high up in the Derwent Valley. Fantastic views, the August heather in full bloom and a drop of whisky all add up to a great adventure......we won't mention the midges !!!!

Hey Pat 👋🏻👋🏻 started watching your video on my night shift break and finished it after a little restful Sleep to try and switch the old body clock around. I really do love it up there. It’s certainly free of folk due to the effort it takes to get there. You’ve given me the itch to get up that way very soon. Thank you Pat. My favourite part was when you stood on the Shepherds meeting stones like the King of the world 🌎 MAGIC ✨ that’s what it’s all about 🌟Beautiful calming video and restful camp for you with some lovely filming as always. Best wishes, see you on the next one ❤

Hi Sarah yes a very wild remote place but somewhere you can walk all day and not see a soul, mind you it is hard going with only a few paths which have a habit of just disappearing, so its then walking through 2 foot high heather untill you find a path again, some form of satalite navigation is useful so you can pin piont where you are, WHEN you get lost. I,am slowly finding my way round with weekly walks up different rivers and cloughs, its exciting because its somewhere new and with summer kit you can walk further. Would like to camp up there in winter but may struggle carrying winter kit will have to see, at least i know we have Ringinglow and Houndkirk to camp at all year round. As for the midges I never want to see another one, I know you had a run in with them on your last camp, sort of puts you off summer camping, I certainly don't want to spend a nights camp with a net bag over my head, not alot of fun, anyway see you on the next one......Pat
@SoloSarahBX
@SoloSarahBX 23 дня назад
@@patrickdickinson6492 it’s like a sweet shop having the pick and mix we have up on the eastern side like you say, all year round camps with easy access definitely have thee uses. As for the Derwent Valley, I camped at crow stones last year when I first started out and way before I started making videos. What an adventure it was tramping through all that heather getting lost with all weather seasons in one day. Certainly kept me on my toes and my satellite maps within easy reach. I remember following a sheep track from bull stones to crow stones as it was lined with sheep wool to pick it out. Follow the Dewent sheep 🐑 they know best 😅. One place I have yet to master is Bleaklow. I’m working my way up to that featureless land! More confidence is needed with my navigation skills, but I’ll get there. See you on the next one and enjoy all of your outings ✨

Hi Pat, went up Friday walked up from Fairholmes, midges were bad so struck off on a path ( I say path, marked on map but waist deep heather )to Round hill, then Grinah Stones where there will still midges, so went on to Bleaklow stones where a small breeze kept em way! Came back via the shooting cabins in lower clough the middle of the valley under car stones is stunning, Rowens, Birch, stunted Oaks and all that heather, very similar to the mid wales river valleys, absolutely beautiful! So due to the midges I missed shepherds stones and the Howden watershed, so I’ll just have to go back and do it in September! Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Patrick. Summer camping is good when it's windy and no midges but when wind stops it's like those midges use chainsaws to get your blood. When midges are gone it makes camping better and fun. Great views and looks like it be good for winter camp. The places you visit and camp is what wild camping is all about the freedom and peace and quiet. I've tried some of their food summit to eat and never tried pudding but I think they do some good meals. I've tried other different company meals and they just so bland with no taste. Excellant wild camping video again and take care!

Hi Pat Thanks for yet another one of your very interesting and enjoyable videos. It’s great to be able to experience with you all these beautiful & peaceful places that I will never be able to visit. The picture quality and sound quality are excellent as always & I don’t need subtitles! Thank you for all the time & effort you put into producing them. You must have to walk each bit three times! I’m sure yours are the best, but can you recommend any other wildcamper’s videos, like for example Solo Sarah? I found you through your Ladybower Plughole video.

Hi Kevin yes the warm and still air made it perect for midges, finding my way round a bit more with weekly hikes up there, so many amazing places to camp, wandered over to Dean Head Stones, not many pitches for a tent but bivvy bag would be OK. I think this area is going to keep me occupied for next few years as long as we can park at Kings Tree for the forseeable future......thanks Pat

Brilliant work Mr Dickinson! Although -- I cannot fathom how a Sheffield lad like you could eat Beef stew without a splash of Hendo's. Very bad form my friend 😂 If you fancy a bit of an sub-urban trek, I can recommend the Sheffield Country Way route from Rother Valley Country Park, round to Dronfield or Totley. Its a cracking mix of scenery and there are a few strategically placed watering holes situated along the way. If you want a guide or some company, I am happy to oblige as I've done the walk (or parts thereof) several times. You should be able to get to RVCP on the tram from town and get a bus back from where ever you decide to finish. Stay safe n well Pat.

Thanks Andy certainly isa beautiful but wild area to camp, but that what attracts me, and a lot of it is all new and I,m looking forward to camping back up there again at the various rocks and hills, that is when all the midges have gone home. Around 10 years ago I did all the major walks in the area including Sheffield Country Way, nice to walk round your own city, but thanks for the offer. Looking forward to to many more camps wether local up Ringinglow or up on the moors of Kinder and Bleaklow…….thanks Pat

Hi Pat, thanks for taking us to the most remote of places, the views were absolutely superb. Interesting to see the stream running freely at the top, perhaps that was why there were so many midges. I can feel them in my hair as I type this, It didn't look much fun at all. Still at least you could camp undisturbed. Last week we went high up (4600') to a zone called el purche (the perch) to watch the Perseids shooting stars. I could have stayed there all night but it just got too cold with a light breeze blowing. Next day 40° but no midges!! Hope there's no more plastering on the horizon for you. All the best!!

Hi David yes we are suffering a bit with the midges at moment, warm humid conditions which they love, your, perch sounded nice with cool temps, don’t think I would cope with 40C, and no plans for anymore plastering, although both my sons are getting to the stage of purchasing houses !!………thanks Par
