Upper Hurst Farm on the Staffordshire, Derbyshire border is nestled between Beresford Dale and Manifold Valley. It’s a perfect base for scenic exploration and is doggy walking heaven.

Hi Rob n Gail, Glad you are out and about. This looks a nice site in a lovely location. I am going to have rename Rob to Wallace given his glee for cheese🤣. Nice to see Gail fronting the camera as well. See you soon. Phil🙂👍
Hi there Phil, Bleak February but still great to be away in the caravan. All in all a good first trip and we had a laugh as usual. Gail’s getting braver in front of the camera these days isn’t she 👍. Good bit of cheese there Gromit 😂 and I’ve saved the caramelised onion truckle for our next trip in March which we are both looking forward to very much. Say hello to Juliet. All the best, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi Rob & Gail, so glad you managed to get away, we've just had our Sterling Eccles 2012 serviced with no faults and ready for 2024 as well, very jealous as we don't travel until the end of March.. You beat us 😂.. Looking forward to your next trip. Thanks again for a get Vlog take care and safe travels..
Hi Howard, Good to hear your faithful Sterling has passed with flying colours and is ready to roll 👍. it’s a good feeling setting off on the first trip after a short winter break knowing the open road beckons. Hopefully the weather should have cheered up by the end of March, so have a nice holiday. Happy travels for 2024 and all the best, Rob & Gail 😀
Brilliant description of a very good site. Your photography of the area, Thors cave and the trail, etc. was also very good.Well done. It's my area so I know it well.
Thank you for your kind words Ken 👍. Good to know we did the campsite and area proud and hopefully influence others to visit. We had a lovely time there and can highly recommend the site and area. All the best to you, Rob & Gail 😀
Thanks for the compliment Paul 👍. We both love to explore the great outdoors and get some fresh air. Always gives us an appetite too and we love eating our meals in the caravan. Best regards to you, Gail & Rob 😀
Thank you so much Lindsay and for your lovely compliment 👍. It was great to be back in our caravan enjoying the fresh air and rain showers. Oh and Gail has a new umbrella ready for our next trip, but let’s hope we won’t need it 🤞. All the best, Rob & Gail 😀
ive just googled campsites in Derbyshire but then decided to check out RU-vid for more thourgh info, glad ive come across your video, looks a nice campsite, bit expensive for my budget but nevertheless very nice and very well choreographed, i may go there oneday, may even find one a bit more affordable to me,between £15-20 per night,Thankyou 😊
Hi there and thank you for your compliment 👍. We really enjoyed our stay at Upper Hurst campsite. To be fair it did have gorgeous facilities, hard standing fully serviced pitches with 16amp hook up. Good walks from here too. Thanks for watching and commenting, Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
A great start to the new season from you both looking forward to more. A real Friday night treat after my initial caravan garage envy . Best wishes Chris ‘n’ Mrs D.
Ah I do love my garage Chris 😁. We have a coffee machine in there now and very often sit in our sun chairs with a cappuccino 😂. Glad you enjoyed watching our first outing of the year 👍. All the best to you both, Rob & Gail
Hi Andrew & Karen, Hope your both well and thanks for watching 👍. Peaceful little site and you would like the showers there. It’s a good few years since we visited Harrington too, very popular on the Sunday we drove through. Apparently they don’t make the cheese on the premises anymore but the Stilton is still made on a local farm. All the best, Rob & Gail 😀
hi Rob and Gail another lovely video hopefully the rain wil stop soon , we have had a couple of trips so far this year and looking forward to the lighter nights etc . 👍
Thank you very much Brads 👍. I think we’re all ready for spring and some drier weather. We look forward to eating our tea with the blinds up ! All the best, Rob & Gail 😀
Thank you very much Graham for watching and commenting 👍. Good to know you enjoyed watching our first holiday video of the year and followed our walks. We enjoyed it very much. Take care, Rob & Gail 😀
There's a lovely walk from Hartington to your campsite. Hulme end (silent L Hume as in Hugh) Had a caravan on seasonal pitch in Biggin nr Hartington for 10yrs. Till my wife died 3yrs ago. Used to walk into Hartington every weekend for my papers. Have breakfast. One at side of toilets. That's where the walk is. In between toilets and cafe. Over small hill & down to beautiful stream. Turn right up the lane to your campsite
Thanks for pointing out the silent L David. Our next door neighbour put me right too, coincidentally they came home from Hartington the day we went there. Another comment from Christine tells us about the footpath from the toilets. Will take a look next time we visit. Hope we brought back some happy memories for you. Thank you very much for watching and commenting. Kind regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Enjoyed tonights video, good as always. We love your enthusiasm. Think it will be a few more weeks before we have our first trip out ,unless the weather comes really good.
Thanks for the compliment Janice. It’s been a bit of a wet February hasn’t it but spring is around the corner. Hope you enjoy your first trip out 👍. All the best, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi Paul, Hope you’re all well and thanks for dropping by 👍. It was a very good first trip away. Lovely site and area, looking forward to the next one. Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi Rob and Gail.. We were up at the Tissington site most likely the same week.. Popped into the Devonshire arms in hartington had a wonderful meal 5star.. Were of to piers cottage next month for a week great site
Hi there, great part of the country, Gail’s just saying bet you walked the Tissington Trail. Will have to try the Devonshire Arms if in the area again. We would buy some more cheese too. Apparently there is a greater selection during the busier periods. Pier Cottage, well what can we say other than delightful 👍 love it there. Hope you have a fantastic time and great weather. Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi there, We’re not members of the C&CC but we do love a fully serviced CAMC CL. Helps balance the costs doesn’t it. If you like a nice clean, warm and smart facility block then this site doesn’t disappoint. Neither does the area, well worth exploring. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍 and by the way we’ve just subscribed. All the best, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi Paul, Nice to hear from someone else who has stayed there 👍. Indeed it is a lovely site and we always appreciate a good view and plenty of space in front of our caravan. We enjoyed our walks from site too. Thanks for watching and commenting. Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Thanks for the video very informative site and area review looks to be a great place for walking we are looking for new places to visit this year will put it on our list 😎
Thanks very much for watching Ray. Pleased our video has inspired you to add this site to your list 👍. February isn’t the best month for showcasing the outstanding area with its miles of trails, but it will be beautiful come spring. Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Thank you very much John 👍. First trip away is always exciting and leaves you wanting more 🙂. Calder Farm looks a very nice choice and in a beautiful area. As you probably know we stayed at Drake House CL where we had a wonderful view of Pendle Hill. Hope you have a happy holiday. All the best, Rob & Gail 😀
Thank you for your welcome back Mathew 👍 and it was lovely to be back too. We even enjoyed filming in the rain and getting a bit muddy, it’s winter after all. We always make the most of our holidays and never fail to have a laugh 😂. Glad you enjoyed it all. All the best to you both, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi Rob & Gail, lovely video. Hartington and the Derbyshire Dales are a great place to visit. Remember visiting 40 yrs ago when going out on dates with my then girlfriend, now wife.
Happy memories for you Andrew 👍. Hope you are both well. When we first met we used to drive miles on a Sunday afternoon with a picnic and flask. I guess times haven’t changed much, except for the walking boots 😅. Certainly a lovely scenic area for exploring. Thank you for watching and best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Hello Rob & Gail, Another brill video packed full of essential information for a trip away and we really liked the look of this site, Hartington and surrounding areas too. Hope you're both keeping well. Best regards, Helen & Dave
Hi Dave & Helen, We’re both good thank you. A cracking rural site, lovely and peaceful with lots of walks for Bella 🐕 . Apparently the Devonshire Arms in Hartington serves excellent food. The pretty market town of Ashbourne is only 11 miles from site and worth a visit. All the best to you both, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi Rob and Gail , Thankyou once again for another informative vlog. Your sermon in the church had us roaring with laughter🤣. Looking forward to following in your footsteps again as we have done 😀 Arran and Marie
Hi there Arran and Marie, Pleased to hear you enjoyed our latest video and let us pray for more happy adventures in our caravan 😂. We certainly enjoyed our first outing of 2024 very much. Thank you for your support, much appreciated and all the best to you both. Rob & Gail 😀
Hi There Michael, Thank you for the lovely warm welcome and compliment 👍. We were both very happy to be back out in our caravan doing what we love best, having a good old explore. Can’t wait for the next one. Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Thank you Julie. It’s a lovely little site and we enjoyed the views from our caravan and meeting the resident animals 👍. Smart facility block too and as the season progresses the site shop stocks locally sourced meat. Thanks for watching and all the best, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi Gillian, It was great to be out and about again 👍 and we had a good time despite the rainy parts. Enjoyed the walks too and there are many in the area we didn’t do this time. Wolfscote Dale is particularly pretty. Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Happy new year to you both, me and the wife have been looking forward to your first video of the year, looked a lovely site and looked like you had a great time. Looking forward to more videos rob/gail as the year goes on. Tom
Hi Tom and a happy new year to you too. Thank you for watching and commenting, much appreciated 👍. It was good to get the walking boots out of hibernation and we really enjoyed our first holiday of the year and can’t wait to go again. Hope it’s not as muddy next time. Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Good to see you both back…. I’ve only recently subscribed to you and as I’ve been unwell of late I binged watched every Vlog you’ve done over the years and throughly enjoyed every episode. On the mend now and can’t wait to get caravan out on the road. Can we ask Rob why you and Gail don’t come south of the Midlands ? Keep up the good work both…..
Thank you for watching the box set and for subscribing. A few iffy episodes but we are getting better 😁. Good to know a full dose of our videos aided your recovery and hope you are out and about very soon. At the moment we don’t venture too far from home because of Gail’s elderly mother however, we do have a trip booked for Worcestershire later this summer. Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi again you two lovely people, Smashing vid again! Loved the Ponies & looking at the Highlands! Visited Hartington many years ago absolutely beautiful! A Rob you'd make a great vicar!😅 ❤❤.
Hello Paul hope you are good and as always thank you for watching and for the compliment 👍. The ponies were adorable, couldn’t drag Gail away and she loved chatting to the hens too. The poor Highlands were a bit bogged down but it was great to come across them. All in all a lovely holiday and we enjoyed being back in the fresh air. I won’t be giving up the day job just yet though 😂. All the best, Rob & Gail 😀
Great to see you both back in your caravan, exciting to get the new season started , lovely quiet site you have chosen with countryside walks looking forward to where you go to this year. We are off to Lamb Cottage in a few weeks recommended by yourselves can't wait to see where you get to next .😊
Hi Yvonne, Hope you’re well and looking forward to your trip to lovely Lamb Cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Upper Hurst Farm and it was good to get out exploring again 👍. Great scenery in both counties. Thank you for watching and all the best, Rob & Gail 😀
First of all a belated happy new year to both of you brilliant to have you back, looks a lovely site in a beautiful spot must apologise rob watched last 3 vids of 2023 but never got around to replying . Still laugh at Gail telling you not to get your wheels dirty on hebden bridge video rob, thanks again for the walks and general information all the very best Rob& Gail hope to see you one day Keith& Helen👍🙂
Hello there Keith & Helen, Lovely to hear from you and happy new year to you both too. Thanks for the warm welcome back, much appreciated 👍. It was a great holiday and good to get out and about again, we do enjoy a good explore. Car, caravan and walking boots all required a good clean afterwards 😁. Keep a lookout for us. Kind regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi Rob and Gail 👍 loved the film the times ive been to Hartington and Wetton mill on my bike its great we also picnic there .. but Rob you didn't get the Hartington blue cheese the village is famous for it 👍 glad you're both ok .. best regards Glyn and Carol
Hi Glyn & Carol, All ok here thank you, hope you are too. Pleased you loved our latest jaunt and enjoyed reminiscing 👍. Gail remembers her dad bringing home a whole Stilton back in the seventies. I personally don’t like it and Gail can’t eat it anymore due to her medication, otherwise she would have bought a big wedge 🧀. All the best, Rob & Gail 😀
Very kind of you Lynette and thank you for watching and commenting 👍. We really enjoy our simple meals in the caravan and buying the cheese locally made this one extra special. Apparently the cheese counter has a much larger choice at busier times. Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
@@lynetteswinburn5408 It’s always good to try local produce. If you haven’t already watched our Bridge House Marina video, then you may like to take a look. It might be one for your ‘to visit’ list 🧀😁
Thanks! We have binge watched a lot of your videos and that sounds familiar but I'll look it up. That's Saturday night's entertainment sorted for us then. Oh and we were at Ludlow Touring Park a couple of weeks ago and visited Ludlow Farm Shop which has an amazing cheese counter. Just in case you're ever thinking of heading south it might be worth a look.
We would love to go back to Ludlow Touring Park. Stayed there a few years back before our RU-vid days but never visited the farm shop. We absolutely love Shropshire. Good to know your Saturday night viewing starts here! 😀
Rains a killer, we are on our second week in Devon and Cornwall and have had constant showers or heavy rain. Not sure I would give the site a five star rating a little like the one we are on today. Muddy walkways, cold shower block, no water on our serviced pitch. Recently visited Cofton Holiday Park near Dawlish Warren almost empty but with outdoor and indoor heated pools, restaurant shop bus stop just outside the site and plenty of signed walks. £30 per night plus metered EHU so £4 ish extra. Would not entertain during school holidays though.
Hi Derek, Two weeks in the rain doesn’t sound much fun especially in such a wonderful part of the country, let’s hope the weather improves for you. Don’t like the sound of no water on your serviced pitch and a cold shower block, that isn’t very good standards. Upper Hurst Farm doesn’t have tarmac roads (which are preferable) but the site does have a charm of its own and we would happily return. We don’t mind staying on a holiday park but like you not during school holidays. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍. Kind regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi Rob and Gail, Lovely to see you back out in the van, That looks like another great site you have found, especially being all serviced pitches 😊. Walks looked lovely if a little wet, Hartington looked like a lovely little village, added to our list 😀. Looks like you will be taking Gail brolly shopping 😅. Looking forward to the next one, are you sticking to one a month 🤔 Hope you enjoyed your first trip and the van worked OK. Take care both. Paul and Joanne 👍🙂
Hi there Paul & Joanne, Hope you’re both well and planning your trips for 2024. A great site and a great start to the season and yes all fully serviced no less 😁. Not the best weather for showcasing the area and not the best time of year either, but we still enjoyed it. Gail has been to Boots today and purchased a new brolly and handed me the invoice 😂. She was very miffed to see her floral one broken 😠. I’m afraid it’s one holiday a month until retirement unless I fit in a ‘how to’ video, but looking forward to trip number two already 👍 Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
@@Meggy6571 Hi Paul & Jo, We’re both well thank you, hope you are too 👍. We actually have two videos to edit, so not long to wait now 😀. Best regards, Rob & Gail
Love all your videos! We are new to watching but great site ideas. Great detail too. Appreciate all the effort you go too. What is your fav site for the best toilet blocks please?!! We wander if your jobs are to do with travel as you both make such great guides and great at describing places!! Thanks Xx
Hello and welcome Helen and thank you very much for your kind words 👍. We enjoy our little hobby making these videos and it’s nice to be appreciated. Actually we never use site facility blocks as we prefer to use our own onboard caravan facilities including the shower. However, you can generally trust Caravan and motorhome club sites facility blocks for cleanliness. Morris Leisure touring sites also have excellent facilities (see our Stanmore Hall and Llanberis videos). Facilities at Bridge House Marina Caravan Park, Hawkshead Hall and Silverhill Woodland Retreat Teversal also stand out and feature in our videos. As for our jobs, I work in civil engineering and Gail worked in a sweet factory but now spends a lot of time caring for her mum. All the best, Rob & Gail 😀
Enjoyed the video. My wife and I stayed at Upper Hurst Farm for a week to try out our first caravan soon after the site opened. We live in Much Wenlock in Shropshire now but we are both born and bred in a small village near Hartington so we know every inch of that area. Glad you enjoyed your visit, despite the weather. Have you still got the Audi A6 Allroad Rob? I've just bought one!
Thank you Malc 👍. It’s a lovely area in and around Hartington with good walks and we really enjoyed our stay at Upper Hurst Farm. We’ve stayed in Shropshire a few times prior to RU-vid and it’s one of our favourite areas with lots to see and do. Since RU-vid we’ve only featured Stanmore Hall near Bridgnorth and had a fantastic time there. Yes still got the allroad and had it 11 years at the end of next month. It has proved to be the perfect tow car with its self levelling air suspension. A good compromise between an SUV and an estate. Hope you’re as happy with yours. Just curious on the model year of yours. All the best to you both. Rob & Gail 😀
Thank you very much Pete, most kind of you 👍. You’re right my walking boots are comfy. They are Mountain Warehouse Extreme Isogrip. Gail’s are Brasher and she says they are comfy too. They have both covered some miles 😁. Best regards to you both, Rob & Gail 😀
Hello Ann, Great minds think alike where sites are concerned 😀. We’ve had a look at Welltrough Farm and it does look our cup of tea 👍. Which is the best area, CL or the other part? We’re fully booked for this year but one to consider, so thank you. Pleased you enjoy our videos. Best regards, Rob & Gail
I would say the other part We have stayed on all parts and to be honest keep getting out and opening the gate on the CL part was annoying The views are stunning from all directions and even better the owner has mowed paths across the fields to 2 pubs We normally go for a weekend as it’s only 40 minutes drive from us Enjoy your travels and we will enjoy watching Ann and Paul xx
Thank you Alan 👍. Good point about mobile reception. We are on BT mobile and EE but BT uses the EE network 🤔. Thanks for watching and commenting. Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi Rob and Gail, we’ve been waiting to see where you were going next. We know Upper Hurst Farm very well having visited many times. We have just been to Chatsworth too following your video last year. Where else have you got planned this year? Nick & Debbie
Hello there Nick & Debbie, We really enjoyed our stay at Upper Hurst Farm campsite and wished we could have stayed longer. Wolfscote Dale was beckoning us! Good to hear our Chatsworth Park video inspired you to book your visit there 👍 and gave you some ideas of the surrounding area. We have nine more destinations booked including our usual seaside holidays 🤐. All the best, Rob & Gail 😀
Looks like a possible destination for The Wednesday Breakfast Club (whose rides I organise) a pub that does breakfasts Done some of those roads on solo ride (on my other channel)
Hi Andy, Hope you’re well. Glad we’ve found you a suitable pub on our travels 👍. Nice location too. Yes seen some of the roads on your ‘Derbyshire Rural Rider’ channel. Thanks for watching and best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Hello Christine, Indeed it is a wonderful area to explore. Our first trip away this year and completely overlooked mentioning how many miles our circular walks covered. Thor’s cave was 8.3 mile, Hartington 3.6 mile and Beresford Dale 3.3 mile. As you can tell from my map, there are lots more walks to do. Thanks for your comment and best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Thank you for the info, we like to walk, especially the peak district as we don't live far away. We have a motorhome and thought that Hulme end was too out of the way for interesting walks from site, but after watching your vlog we will go to that site, 8 miles is prob the most we would walk in a day. When we had caravan we would park at Hartington and start a walk there across the fields behind the public toilets. Thanks for your reply, happy travels to you both from Christine & Alan 😊
