She's the main reason I'm angry the show is ending. She shows up once in season 2, doesn't join the crew until the last minute or so of season 3, then she's missing from like half of season 4. I NEED THREE MORE SEASONS OF T'LYN, MINIMUM!
Manitoba is a province in Canada. It's Capitol City is Winnipeg. Winnipeg is one of the coldest cities in the world. The Parliament Class ships seen throughout Lower Decks are all named after locations in Canada. The Andorians are a cold weather race. The Manitoba being a mostly Andorian ship is actually deep cut joke.
The Parliament class seems to follow the naming convention of the current Halifax-class frigates which are named for provincial capitals. I would hope the USS Manitoba isn't part of the class as it really wouldn't make sense after the USS Vancouver and USS Toronto, USS Winnipeg would make more sense. A USS Ville de Québec would make me laugh though.
I was about to say that as well. When that episode first aired, there was a commercial with a USS Voyager Christmas ornament (I want to say Hallmark, but I could be wrong). Still upset I couldn't afford to get one, lol.
@@KatsuRyu I just found one of these that an old lady was selling. Still in box. Got a Defiant and a couple DS9 ornaments too. And some random officers, but I only care about the ships and station:).
when Boimler comes ff the mountain and hits the ground , the distant wide shot shows a puff of snow, that matches the cloud of dust shot that always followed Wily Coyote whenever he fell off a cliff and hit the ground. and Krog so obviously Korg. not just another rock monster but also the best selling manufacturer of musical instruments. Thought Sean might get that one. and the scene when they are floating down the river, and then surrounded by angry natives, Southern Comfort movie reference for sure
Remember how craty Tendi was to be liked by everyone? With T`Lyn being so enthusiastic in her expression of joy to have her back, at least on the Cerritos, she can now sleep soundly. Also it was a joy to see T`Lyn meet her favorite musician at the end and find herself on the same logical wavelength. It was satisfying. P.S. did the aliens who get angry when someone eats or drinks, but went to a bar remind anyone of Ensing Ro and how Gunian called out how you don´t go to a bar when you want to be alone?
I absolutely love that in every seen where the away team is running scared and screaming, T'Lyn is still completely stoic-ly straight faced. Even being absorbed by a giant twenty sided nanite ball, she may as well have been meditating.
I didn't see it happen in this episode, but she's such an overly emotional, excitable Vulcan that she does have significant facial expressions from time to time. Usually when someone else is in grave danger and she can't help. Most notably was when Bomlier briefly died in the exploding Enterprise-era building in that episode with the ringworld. When his body is flying through the air she has a look of shock and horror on her face, but when the camera cuts back to her a split second later she's blank faced again. It was well done.
HMS Endeavour was the ship from marvels micronauts, who also came from a sub atomic universe, who were much smaller than humans when they came over to our universe. Could be a homage to that, as was around the time marvel also had star trek comics.
This was my favorite episode of the season thus far, if anything because of the way it had Mariner and Jenifer wrap up their relationship in a very mature way. I also love that they lampshade the whole lack of a proper breakup scene between Mariner and Jenifer at the end of season 3, which I know was the one thing bugging me for the entirety of season 4. On top of that, when it was revealed that the nanites were actually a lost Intrepid Class starship, I must admit I did chuckle and go "Of COURSE it's an Intrepid class! Those ships are cursed to go on the weirdest misadventures."
I wonder how often that mature of a break up happens. When it's dating it's fairly often, but an actual BG and GF and any variation of this it is not so common in my exp. Maybe I was just immature, but I can only wish I pulled something like that off
Ah but Sean, you missed Ransom's line "Jett loves danger!". He thinks he's being really nice, inviting the guy that loves danger on all the most dangerous missions.
I didn’t actually notice the sparkly logo until this episode so I’m glad I’m not the only one who didn’t catch it earlier. Also, I love T’Lyn’s very Vulcan fangirling
The tiny Intrepid Class ship, Endeavor, harkens back to the DS9 episode where the shuttlecraft is shrunken in an anomaly and goes on to rescue the Defiant from the Jem'Hadar.
Loved the two random Enterprise era aliens. The Kreetassan woman seemed to be traumatized by Boimler's indecency. Oddly funny, but I have to question why Kreetassans would be at a place where everyone is eating and drinking... Also irrationally angry at Boimler having ski goggles and LEAVING THEM ON HIS FOREHEAD!
It occurs to me that the Boimler ski scene is also kind of an homage to the Simpsons and stupid sexy Flanders “it’s like she’s wearing nothing at all, nothing at all, nothing at all” “This is the worst pain ever!”
I suspect the Manitoba reference is a callback to Boimler's girlfriend on the Vancouver, a play on the whole Canadian-boy/girlfriend, only here it's a real girlfriend who's GOING to Canada instead of being FROM Canada
it's 3 hair's for each sideburn 6 hair's on the top lip and 5 hair's on the chin for a grand total of 17.....just to be pedantic. heheh loving the ups and downs content😍
Two bits got me; Mariner counting the sides of the nanite mass, and the complete lack of expression of T'Lyn's face as they surfed out of said nanite mass. :D And yes, "take an up Mariner's growth," does sound very strange. It makes it sound like you're giving an up to a biological mass that have taken root on Mariner and become sentient, much like Vestigial Peter from Family Guy, who also deserves an up.
Wasn’t the Endeavour from another alternate universe? I’m sure there was a line from the Captain of that ship, saying they have an Admiral Millius in their universe, although he milks space whales too. I also took that to be the reason why the Captain’s wearing a TNG-era uniform and commbadge, despite being on an Intrepid Class ship. Anyway, that was a good theory about what race Krog was. But, I think the most obvious parallel is the Kronan character, Korg from various Marvel movies (they just changed the o and the r around in the name!).
I'm a little upset that Paul Scheer (Billips) still isn't in the opening credits. Billips has had more screen time so far this season than Shax or T'Ana.
Can we not have a "Down" for Jennifer kissing a superior officer on duty when it was clearly shown to be not wanted and, on one occasion, in the presence of the 2nd in Command the the Chief Engineer? Edit: Either the same TNG _Endeavour_ or another of the same name was at the Battle of Sector 001 as can be heard on the audio piped onto the _Enterprise_ bridge - engaging at grid A-15
Best part of the episode: Mariner knows the seating sections in a theatre. Maybe we will see her in an episode that involves acting. Boimler could mention The Conscience of the King form the Those Old Scientists era.

The vibe tubes are clearly based on the visi-sonor from Foundation (like Futurama's holo-phonor). I'd say that deserves a Cetacean mention. And so does Ransom's fake name. For the first 0.67 seconds "Zach Bransom" very much sounds like a somewhat similar Futurama character.
I'm wondering if its also a nod to the cult film Battle Beyond The Stars that had very similar looking vibe tubes - the Trek connection being the soundtrack for that film was reused as The Battle Of The Mutara Nebula
Afraid not. It’s a call back to the 1st season TNG episode “We’ll Always Have Paris.” There’s a guy playing them on the holodeck when Picard is having dinner with Michelle Phillips.
The existence of the USS Manitoba makes me believe there's also a USS Saskatchewan, and I can't help but feel sorry for anyone serving on it cause of it's name lol.v
There is also probably a Parliament class USS Regina. And presumably it shares Regina's unofficial (Picard double facepalm sigh and move on) motto, "The City That Rhymes With Fun".
My down for the episode is the memory of 'A Night in Sickbay' (prompted by the inclusion of the Kretassans) which is my 3rd most disliked episode of Trek. Skiing down the mountain reminded me of the classic DOS game Ski-free, where you had to avoid a Yeti that's like a Dark Souls boss who kills the PC in one hit. Also Colonel West was a reference to Oliver North, who was a major figure in the Iran Contra Affair back when ST6 was being developed/shot.
Gallamite gets a down from me. The appearance of Captain Boday was one of those recurring jokes (like Morn's gregariousness) that were best left unaddressed. Anyway, that's my Old Man complaint. Otherwise had a ton of fun this week.
Yayyyyy @TomCFinn and The Handsome Hibernian Hombre @SeánFerrick, good to see you guys... BTW, Seán I think missed a Cetacean Observation: Boimler growing a Mustache is timely, because Saturday is 1 November--The start of NO SHAVE NOVEMBER 😅😂!!!
My only real disappointment in season 4 was the lack of closure to the Jennifer-Mariner relationship (I didn't mind it's absence in the season 3 finale, there wasn't time there). So I'm very glad to have this episode!
I think Krog might be a Brikar that was in the Star trek new frontier books that are intelligent rock creatures that serve in starfleet. One served as the head of security for the Excalibur, and was also featured in the first 3 star trek tng starfleet academy book series for younger trekkies about the tng crew in the academy. The first 3 were about the adventures of worf in the academy who was bullied by a brikar that the publishers brought back in the new frontier novel series as the Excalibur chief of security. I just forget his name.
I find it odd that the whole situation around Mariner being transferred off the Cerritos at the 3rd Season finale wasn't addressed - that everyone thought she was the one who badmouthed the ship for the FNN expose, including Jennifer who Mariner clearly stated that she needed her to believe her. Then Mariner ended up saving the Cerritos and everyone aboard from the Aledo - but Jennifer decides to play mind games with her? What the heck?
It was mentioned in this episode. And Jennifer also says that she's at least as big of a dick as Mariner for how she's handled everything. And also that the only reason she wanted to date Mariner was because she liked how bonkers Mariner was, and how uncomfortable she made everyone (which was clear at the time to audience members, though possibly not to Mariner).
I personally cannot tell a 19 or 21 sided object from a 20 sided one on sight without counting. If they had been nanites rather than tiny humans, maybe they liked prime numbers? Or they liked multiples of primes. There is no reason to assume that a nanite would like round numbers, or that they'd be using base 10 or base 20 math.
My down for this episode, the pronounciation of Kreetassen and Denobulan, whether this was an intentional bit from Ransom (being his usual braun over brains self), or it was just that nobody watched Enterprise prior to recording the episode, it irked me nonetheless, it'd be like calling the ship the cherry-toss... :P
Dear Seán, First of all, great work, as always. I never felt the need to comment until now, and I only comment to complain. But I believe your comment on Colonel West at 28:46 to be incorrect. I surmise that Colonel West wanted to lead the team to "rescue" Kirk in order to mess it up royally, get caught, ensure the war and, bonus, kill Kirk and Spock to make war martyrs out of them. Please let me know if there is a hole in this logic. I welcome any correction.
Pre-Watch comment: Mariner knows that Cmdr. Ransom would never allow an officer under his command to be endangered unnecessarily, Boimler has a much more limited experience with him and tends to believe ship gossip for some reason, so I suspect one of the ups will be Ransom acting like a 100% Starfleet officer. (and then chasing down Manhaver because he thinks the dude loves danger)
And Ransom gets no ups for knowing that Boimler's actual skillset is great for the mission and gets a down for giving Manhaver exactly the missions that he's implied to be asking for. Sad Face.
OMG, came here just at the end. Anyway... Do you know I heard just today about the story of Stingy Jack? From a basque work colleague who was raised in Ireland. Halloween is his favourite holiday! Here in Catalonia we just eat chestnut and marzipan and drink muscat wine (That's the Chestnut night) P.S. Of course it's an icosaedron. Everyone loves geometry, right? Right? P.S.2. Sunscreen, Sean. Remember what happened to you in California!!!
SPOILER: _ _ Jennifer acting like everything was/is all normal with Mariner and her definitely made me say "Nuh uh. You do not get to be that way after what you did." 😅
