UPVC door will not lock, easy fix 

Oh my goodness - you just helped me fix a door in minutes that hasn’t closed properly in years - thanks so much!

My porch door wouldn't lock, and I assumed it was because of the heat today, but I gave the inner inner hex nuts about a turn each and bingo. Thank you and great video!

Most of the time, the sheer weight of the door and heavy glass panes pull down with gravity and either strain the top and middle hinge, or make the door go slightly parallelogram-shaped, rather than rectangular, just by a millimetre or two. Under the "flag" part of the hinge cover (the bit on the door itself) is an adjustable bolt that when tightened, pulls the top of the door inwards, usually enough to make the door lock again with just a couple of turns. In your case, the hinge had come loose from the frame which is uncommon compared to the hinge being stretched/strained or the door "dropping" due to its weight. I've been adjusting doors since the late 80's and the flag hinges that you have on your door are the best type to have as they give the easiest and most adjustment. A lot of modern composite doors on new houses have crap, almost non-adjustable hinges and when the house moves with a bit of settlement, the doors start playing up. Even the way that the glass panes are fitted can make a difference to how much a door drops. You shouldn't fit spacers/packets under the botyom of the glass on both sides, just on the hinge side, the other (locking) side should be allowed to "float", so that gravity doesn't push down the glass onto the frame. I'm sure there are videos or pictures around online that'll show you how to pack a glass pane correctly if you should ever need to replace a broken or misted-up double-glazed pane ;)

Had to come back to say thanks , tried fixing this door a couple of years ago, came back with sheer determination, spent an hour playing with those adjustments like you did, sat down- the door still smirking at me then I came to you tube this was the first help video I found and it worked so well I can lock the door with my little finger-smooth as silk. My front door has just started playing up …. It won’t lock straight away (sometimes it does) but I have to keep messing on turning the key re opening the door shutting the door turning the key and eventually it will do that click noise and lock … what can be causing this the handle lifts up all the way fine I can get a key in etc just sometimes when I turn it it won’t lock straight away … I feel like it’s almost the door has to be in the right place when shut for it to lock as it will lock after I get in the right spot but I can be doing this for 2 minutes or 10 minutes re opening and closing the door seems to be getting worse over time it’s been about 3 months like this Thank you

When I lift the handle of my door the sliding "bolts" at the edge of the door dont move, nor will the lock engage. Please assist me on where I should look for assistance. (I have looked but dont find the answer. Maybe old age is dulling my perception). Thanking in advance.

Hi mate, before I proceed should I be worried about screwing/unscrewing the screws in the hinge too far in one direction? Thanks! EDIT: I went ahead and managed to fix it! Thanks for uploading this! (still curious what happens if you keep rotating in one direction though :D)

My screw thing os work and its plastic so my allen key keeos turning and turning and turming. Whats the solution?

I had this problem for well over a year. Cant fix it but hopefully now ill be able too. Think my hinges are different though 🤔 Do you have to do like say half a turn on each hinge one after an other or can you just adjust one with a few turns until it comes good?
