I am so lucky my hubby has just bought me the uranium green glass necklace this will be my 4th piece as I am awaiting my sea marble necklace. Everyone adores my necklace and earrings set i got for Xmas and asks me about it. Its purple and clear when wet but navy blue when dry i feel so honoured to wear them. We are very blessed living in between two coasts or rather surrounded by hundreds of miles of coast that has been inhabited for such a long time ... and with it comes the rubbish from centuries! I am now a fan of uranium glass and I am now going to collect it! Thank you this was an eye opener or sure, I had no idea how amazing it can look! I love the way it looks under u.v. light. I am totally going to collect more of it. I can't believe how many times I have seen glass just like it and never suspected it to possibly be uranium glass. My eldest brother who recently passed from covid, used to take me, my mother and my other brother and sisters to a place up in the mountains here and it was a fluorite mine and when you looked inside the walls where straight and a lavender color with what looked like quartz. It also would glow under u.v. light which to me as a kid at the time was almost magical! I was sure a bunch of fairies lived there! There was also another florite mine that was not to far from this one that was green and quartz. I filled my backpack with these amazing rocks but I couldn't carry all of them down the mountain so I had to leave most of them at the mine. like most kids that are 8, I totally forgot about them! I wish I could remember where the mines are, but there is so many different mines from the old timers that it's dangerous because of the old mines. They have a ghost town way up in the between the mountains. It's very old by US standards. The buildings are taken care of and still stand till this day! There is a hotel, brothel, saloon and other buildings that pepper the area. The good ol SouthWestern united states. I live here and I love it here and couldn't limagine living anywhere else in the U.S. I do love it here, its beautiful.

What sort of safety precautions were taken when drilling your pieces?? I havent drilled into my radioactive glass yet because I am unsure on where to dispose of the water. Some pieces are hotter than others and they do pose a threat from the contaminated water (from drilling) and any glass dust particles. You can still get doses that interact with your body from this.
We always take precautions when drilling. Thank you for your concern. You must drill any glass or pottery under water so you do not get dust particles.
