Jim Leonhard played for Rex Ryan in the NFL. You can see major influence in his defense from the Buddy Ryan “Bear” system where the Nose is a two-gap player in a 0-Tech (very difficult) and the two 3-Techs are very good POA players against the run. LBs from Wisc are always awesome, albeit not usually overly athletic or physical. Good DBs are hard for them to find because of recruiting base. Considering their roster mostly consists of 3-Star to low level 4-Star players from average HS programs he does a really impressive job. Never really watched Wisc’s defense struggle under Leonhard unless they’re playing a team like OSU that holds a massive talent advantage or a team with an elite level OL.
