What better to do than on a free day than go out and film rubbish trucks. This clip was filmed late in the day when the city route had all but been finished the driver's next stop was off to service some nearby rural streets. I would have loved to have spent more time out with Hemi (the driver) filming but once he hit the rural streets, it became unsafe to follow him.
Cul-de-sac / dead end streets make for a great filming, being able to see the truck approach and navigate around. This particular street had a perfectly paced lamp post and just under it was a number of rubbish bags. The lap post made for an ideal mounting position for my action camera to get a stable, higher than usual, point of view. This part of the video has been crudely edited as Hemi (the driver) and I had a good old chinwag when we recognised each other.
Previously I have filmed this driver a number of times on the glass run, but today he was behind the wheel of this rubbish truck. And to answer his question "why would I want to film this (rubbish collection), it is not as exciting as glass recycling or following a side arm"? Well, I think rubbish collection is way more exciting than glass recycling or following a side arm. Especially as this town has such a unique way of collecting rubbish that has been lost to the implementation of wheelie bins and automation of side lift trucks.
A massive shoutout to the driver, Hemi. Thank you once again for being such a good sport and putting up with myself and @Kiwigarbo2013 following you around filming.
