I find this with a lot of you tubers. Then put on the tv and you’ve got the most obnoxious cold egotistical twats being paid a fortune. Don’t know what these tv executives are thinking of
Hi Matthew I still have 2 puncture marks on my wrist from when I threw my rucksack over and the weight impaled my wrist on the fence, did show it hurt though, all the best Pat
Hi Paul, have tried a tarp occasionally, must admit I tend to only use my bivvy bag when I know it is not going to rain especially if cooking outside etc. I tend not to use a tarp because when I look at all the gear, poles etc I might as well take a lightweight tent.I use the bivvy bag when dry forecast and sleep with to unzipped, like you say gets a bit damp if closed in. Interesting comments thanks Pat
Plus the idea is to be as low profile and inconspicuous as possible. A tarp (often bright blue, though yes of course you can get military greens) would have been like having a giant flag on the hilltop saying "Heeey look at me up here" Then there's the fact that the slightest amount of wind will turn a tarp into a sail :O
@4:00 "You can get very merry for a tenner and you can get absolutely legless for 20 quid". I knew a girl like that once. I absolutely love your content, mate! Please don't ever stop.
I used to live at the top of that lane above Homebase. Many moons ago. Fond memories of Sheffield. Moved there as a student and ended up staying 10 years. Good to see it again. Stumbled across your channel. Glad I did. Subscribed 👍
Hi and thanks for sub, mainly wild camping but go off on a tangent a throw different stuff in. Great view from up there spent ages try to identify different buildings streets etc. Thanks for comments all thye best Pat
Hi i,am about same distance so not far to walk, alot of uphill as you can expect in Sheffield but at least you get a view. thanks for comments and watching Pat
This was one of the first of Pat Dickenson's videos that I watched. It was very worthwhile to re-watch this production, due to the concentration of information contained. In fact, rather than pacing back and forth waiting for Pat's upcoming masterpiece, I have been watching many of Pat's adventures again. Now that I know the outcome of the storyline, so to speak, I can focus on the information and details that Pat has selected to present. I realize that among his skillset are focus, splendid editing and willingness to make the required effort. The world simply does not have enough of this, these days. In this video I had a good laugh over the pub commentary, beginning around the 2:45 minute mark, and the description of the state one may achieve for twenty Quid in a good Chesterfield pub. Marvelous, Pat.
Thanks I really appreciate comments like this makes making the vidio all worth while. I love researching the history of my great city and then actually making a vidio out of it, thanks Pat
Great video thanks Pat! I especially liked the fish and chips in the cemetery, priceless! The beer stops and commentary were excellent too. Good thing that tree was growing through that fence. Cheers!
Great video pal As always a great show and a change from your normal enjoyed it from start to finish including pubs and chippy . Your gymnastics on the high fence was awesome . Keep up the great work pal .
Yes a wild camp with a difference that's says it all once settled on site felt more relaxed and turned out to be a great camp, although a little noisy with traffic , thanks for comments Pat
Brilliant vid , thanks , in the 70,s me and my brother visited Tinsley T M D great day out , got a bus out to what seemed the middle of nowhere , and a few pints in a pub called The Raven , happy days , love your adventures
Wow I remember the Raven from the 1970,s if it's the same one near West Street became Hornblower made out like a ship then Irish bar the demolished now, happy days, Pat
Interesting video, brought back many memories. As a teenager I hitchhiked every where Yorkshire,Derbyshire ,Wales, Scotland, Lakes including Ireland. Two of us.Our overnights on all our trips in towns and villages was always their local graveyards.Generally good grass.Generally a water tap always a quiet night. Great days and nights. Enjoy your trips on the moors too. Waldo.
Hi Waldo sound like you had a great time pity there was no RU-vid then. Great to remember what you did when you were younger I,am still trying to carry on doing it now, thanks for watching and comments Pat
Patrick.Just penned a long reply and lost it. Here we go again. It seems our train runs on the same track. Just looked at your 1000 Subs vid 2016. Itoo was an apprentice elec. eng. EMEB 45yrs. now retired. I lectured many times at YEB Offices also Ashover if you remember that in Derbyshire. I still get out regularly .Viking Way this year. Dalesway2016, Coast to Coast Eng. . I completed 14 TGOChallenges the last one when I was 73 yrs.old I am 89 yrs. next .We shall have to chat some time. Spent all my early years in the Peak. Best Wishes Thanks for your prompt reply. Waldo
Hi Hughesy, a little bit different although still a mini adventure, looking forward to getting back up on the wild moorlands for next camp, all the best Pat
Thoroughly enjoyed this film Pat as I have the rest of your videos. I am genuine when I say that you are an inspiration! The effort you go to in making your films is tremendous. I’ve always been an outdoors persons after a scouting start but have ended a little soft in that we moved from camping to caravaning. Well, that was until I stumbled across you! I’ve ordered a small back packing tent and starting to put my kit together for some wild camping. Please keep doing what you’re doing! You’re s star!
Bram Booth Hi Bram like you my love of the outdoors started early then continued with joining the scouts, had some fantastic camps as a teenager. Hope you get out camping soon I ,m sure you will enjoy it, all the best Pat
Just got home from work and found this video. Very enjoyable way to relax and have a snack. Great idea for a wild camp and well photographed too. Thanks for sharing.
Hi yes thought of doing urban camp for a while it was just a matter of finding a location, looked at several until I found this one, I think I will be back on the moors next time, all the best Pat
Beltin' video Pat. You're a proper authentic character. Found your videos yesterday and now I can't stop watching them. :) They're both interesting and entertaining.
Hi Kieran, great spot this, often drive past and look up there. Have thoughts of a similar camp to this so enjoyable. Hope to keep you entertained through. 2019 Pat
Hi John once at the campsite and fastened to my safety line felt very secure, was concerned if anybody saw me and managed to stay hidden in long grass, little bit different but still a great camp, all the best Pat
Well Patrick, I have now watched all your vids except the last two, from the start over the last week or so. My wife has a quote, "Daft as a box of frogs" and I must agree where your concerned, especially after the pub crawl, never laughed so much for a while. You seem to be haphazard but I know you plan these escapades and make them look as its just another jolly old walk. I would never do what seems so natural to you, I swore to my self, never to kip in a tent again when I left the army in 1972 and we did sleep in some very snowy cold places without modern sleeping bags etc. I have kept to that promise.:) I have never been to Sheffield and what impressed me from this vid, it looks like the houses are an after thought that take second precedence from trees. Absolutly brilliant and you don't see this from ground level. Whish we had fish and chip trees in my area, they are very rare. One thing we do have in common, is a love of real ale. Have you never considered doing the Wainright coast to coast walk and wild camping from start to finish? It would take some planning but what a series of youtube vlogs that would make. My very best regards, Brian the Wonderer.
DrTeno Guy hi Paul different camp not far from home, all helped to make a enjoyable wild camp, tree camping Portaledge progressing well should have final part of build on next few days, thanks Pat
Hi Conor had this planned for a while but just could not find a suitable camp, every where in the city is so public, the beers were nice as well all part of a urban camp, all the best Pat
Hi I suppose we are always learning new thing especially with new items of kit and also looking at each others You Tube videos, part of the fun, thanks for watching Pat
Michael Sargeant Hi Michael thanks for that, different sort of wild camp, have a new idea for wild camping coming up in a couple of weeks, certainly will be different, thanks Pat
Brother Mark Hi Mark if that's all I ,be done then that's great. Difficult to get started but once your out to,be cracked, adventure whenever you want it, all the best Pat
Haha brilliant, camping above homebase ! Just goes to show you can have an adventure anywhere. I lived on Valley Rd and my local was the White Lion, 20 years ago before I emigrated to New Zealand. A trip down memory lane. Good work.👍
Hi Matt yes was a great location to camp, a little bit different. White Lion will not have changed, not as busy only seems to open after $-00pm and that was before lockdown. I understand it has not re-opened yet, like a lot of other pubs in last couple of weeks due to easing of lockdown, enjoy New Zealand, all the best Pat
Great video Pat, brilliant camera work and editing, oh my, didn't half want a pint when I seen you Suping the first pint and then the cod and chips , about finished me , true, could smell.em and the beer , 😂🤣, really good idea for camping , do like your style of humoure , thanks Pat forward some great , excellent entertainment 👍
Great, interesting camp. I was shocked you were going cliff-side of the fence! I am glad there was space for your bivvy bag and that you had a harness for good measure: getting up for a pee and forgetting where you where doesn't bear thinking about. Yes, on balance the possibilities for dark skies probably rules in favour of LEDs. Some lights are oh so smart and only come on when walking by or standing in the bus shelter. Saves some energy at least. Fantastic video as always Pat. Atb,Terry
Hi Terry, each time I call at Homebase I look up to where I camped, that was a great adventure, maybe again one day. A few years ago the lighting would of showed up alot more with the old sodium lights, a warmer glow to the city, but LEDs, certainly more efficient, thanks Pat
I'm watching this from British Columbia, Canada and your cool, wet weather looks so very nice. Thanks for another video that makes me want to go out and explore every local nook and cranny.
Hi Paul we get a bit fed up with our cool wet weather, would not be so bad if we got a decent winter like you do with plenty of snow to make for some great winter camps, but just stays cool and wet for a lot of the time, thanks for watching Pat
I love that LED lighting reduces light pollution, that’s wonderful. I am new to your Chanel, grew up in Devon but moved to Canada in 1999 and now live in Austria so it’s lovely to see the U.K. countryside. Thanks Pat.
ianmedium Hi Ian and nice to hear from you. Certainly moved about a bit, I,be never left Sheffield where I was born. The glow from the old sodium lights made Sheffield look like it was on fire, like the blitz in 1940 I would imagine,it did suprise me how little light is now visible, thanks Pat
Great location and stunning views. It looks to have been a very enjoyable expedition. I like the idea of the 'foraging' and the pub stops. It's so important to frequent pubs where they offer discount to Camra members and also to call in at pubs you don't normally have the chance to visit!
Danielle Britton Hi Danielle this camp was a little bit different and great fun, the beer was very nice and discounted as well. The Crown at Heeley is one of those pubs that are difficult to leave, thanks for comments Pat
I used to play in that quarry when I was a kid in the early 60's there was a very small pond down the bottom we used to frequent 'fishing' for sticklebacks and frogs with nets on a length of cane and a jar...…didn't need apps and smart phones in those days...
Yeah did the same myself in the ponds on the Porter valley great times and I,am sure we learnt a lot in those early adventurous days, great to hear from someone local to the area, thanks Pat
Hello Pat, wild urban camping is always my favourite, I suppose it's the being so close yet so far, or hiding rite under people eyes, love it, please do more. ATB Davie
Hi Davie, this was my first urban camp, did not realise it would be so difficult to find a secluded spot to camp in a city, I also wanted a nice view as well. Thanks for comments and watching Pat
Ace video buddy, what a great idea for a camp, I like the sound of urban camping but finiding a good spot is difficult. Thanks for uploading your adventures, Dominic
Only just started at looking at wild camp videos. I'm 67 now and did my first wild camp when I was 15 " 1965 " Went to Bridge Of Orchy, and wild camped by Loch Tulla. Cloth tent with tie front door, no sewn in ground sheet in those days, primus pump stove and being a Londoner never heard of the dreaded midge. Happy days, love your videos Patrick.
malcolm winter hi Malcolm, yes and I bet you remember that camp like it was yesterday, those pump up primus stoves were great as well, an art to get one going with a roar, happy days, Pat
Patrick I'm slowly working my way through your films and your fastly approaching as one of my favourite RU-vid's,excellent work.Love your fish n chips supper while wild camping, that can't be beat along with the liquid refreshment on route haha.awesome stuff. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Patrick, Loved your video in Sheffield, as I am originally from Leeds, now living in NZ. I used to ski twice a week in Sheffield, great place. Cheers Mike
Hi mike the Ski village burnt down about 4 years ago I did have a 2 hour refresher lesson there then it was gone, and we have had no snow for 2 years now. hope your enjoying NZ all the best pat
You have a very creative mind, Pat. I like how you see the wonder in the world around you and capture it. I have watched this video a few times, brings me back to when I was a kid and would camp in strange places around my home town. Thanks for sharing. Keep going, friend!
Cloud Nectar thanks for the kind comments, always loved the outdoors and this felt a real adventure as the location meant I had to keep hidden. Thanks for comments and watching Pat
Hi Pat great video :) I'm an old camper who started at about age twelve and kept at it as a journeyman rigger, scaffolder and crane operator, going all over Australia to construction and mining jobs for forty yrs, I never stayed in hotels or motels on the way to and from work and always camped out. One time I was sent to a power station in rural Queensland and since they never provided accommodation we were paid x$$ per day to find our own .. I found a spot along a similar fence line above a road embankment and slept there for nine nights, I had a shower in the Power Station before work every day .. it was one of the best times I ever had. The last trip was just on nine yrs ago I needed to go to Nimbin in New South Wales and camped out for two nights .. when I saw yr face and heard yr voice I wondered if we had ever met, I have never been to the UK so it would have had to have been in Australia .. cheers from Brisbane.
Hi Martin nice to hear from Brisbane, likewise I have never been to Australia, perhaps one day. You sound like you have had a interesting working life travelling all over and getting plenty of camping bivvying in at the same time. i can imagine you saved yourself a fortune in hotel fees as well, sounds a great life, thanks for sharing your adventures all the best Pat
I love going camping with you pat. keep em coming mate I want to go on many more with you pat even though I'm not there all the best mate. long may you run pal ...respect to you
Terry Johns Hi again Terry hope to have another video up in Oct hopefully on Kinder but also have another visit down Megatron waiting, see what comes up , all the best Pat
I still love watching your short very entertaining videos love your wild camps. I do the Ridgeway about every 2 years it’s about 87 miles but I do about 120 miles I wild camp along the way mostly woods, I used first few time a Jack Wolfskin stargazer tent lovely little solo tent but now I’ve gone for a lighter more expensive Hilleberg Enan lovely tent comes in at 1.1kg weight. Thank you for the enjoyment you bring. By the way yes I could smell those Fish n chips 🤤all best GARY
Great economic case you made for Britain's choice to industrialize early . Your comparison of urban foraging to rural foraging . Very nice video and entertaining .
Another enjoyable video, although whenever you are around that end of Sheffield my mouth starts to water at the thought of some Moonshine from the Abbeydale Brewery. Just don't see it often enough in places for my liking! Thanks again for taking us on an awesome camp. Finally got my first bivvy camp/test out of the way. You've opened up a whole range of extra options now!
Hi Chris glad you got your gear and camp sorted. that Moonshine is one of my favourites I like to try different beers but always come back to moonshine. I know they have it at robin Hood at £3-15 a pint, also at Norfolk Arms,Prince of Wales, The Broadfield to name a few great pint. nice to talk to you all the best Pat
Really good film this one Patrick, I enjoyed that. Don't think even with the rope I could sleep that close to the edge! Some great pubs around Heeley as well!
Pubs around Heeley are great, Crown, white lion, Two Brothers all great pubs and nice beer. The campsite was very safe would be difficult to fall off but rope as a precaution at night and just in case any local yobs thought they would throw me off for a laugh, thanks for comments and watching Pat
Thanks Pat that was a refreshing change from the norm on RU-vid great I really enjoyed it I've tried Farmers Ales in Edale in peak District when I got the train back home I found a pint Glass dumped on Edale station it had the mill stone on it i still use it most days Atb Geoff .
Yeah Geoff its a nice glass they have, been meaning to do urban camp for a while but not easy finding that perfect location, hidden but with a view, thanks for comments all the best Pat
Nice video Patrick. Brought back some fantastic memories. Born and brought up down Heeley, and then lived about 5 minutes from where you camped. Keep up the good work.
Michael Johnson Hi Michael glad the video brought back memories always nice took at somewhere that you are familiar with. My family was in Heely in late 1800 ,s so we have not moved far in last 150 years, nice to hear from you all the best Pat
Patrick Dickinson Hi , I am interested in your videos, being born and brought up in that area. I Remember camping near Castleton in mid 60s at Christmas. With an old army bivvy tent and a massive polythene fly sheet bought from God knows where. Many layers on for the night, and a candle burning throughout the the night. No fancy survival stuff then.😉
Pat I have watched a number of your videos and I must say they are very informative and also very funny. Anyone looking up at you would have thought you was a homeless guy camping out. I liked the video of you light painting and taking photographs in the disused railway tunnel. Keep up the great videos they are an inspiration to us all Atb..........Adrian
