How has this location changed in the 15 months since I was here? Well let's goto the old site and see!
This location was the subject of an earlier video but I took it down for other reasons. Now I am going back to see what has changed since a little over a year has passed. The location is interesting to me for a couple of reasons, but the photos are the most interesting part for me. The documentation of the site matters.
Here are the links to my books on Blurb if you wanted to one of them.

I really like going to these types of sites & taking B&W shots. The history of the places is really interesting. Thanks for sharing these pix.

Thank you Ken, I do enjoy trying to capture the location as it is and still getting some really good negative space photos as well. It is neat to document the transition too...

Interesting video, place, and story about the drone license. The photo of the chair with the rim light really caught my eye. I wonder if the up and down motion of the machinery would have broken brick but wood was more elastic.

Wow, does this bring back memories. I worked 39 years in a foundry that looked much like this one. While quite modernized by the time I retired it looked quite primitive when I started there as a young man.

The wooden "forms" are the foundry patterns and were made from various woods depending on the durability and projected life needed. Sometimes pine (short lived), often mahogany or poplar. For master patterns we used cherry. The various paint colors designated things to the molders for setting cores, etc..

Thank you for explaining what I could only speculate on. I really appreciate that. It was really sad to see such an industrious location to fall into such ruin so fast. I can remember in the not to distant past when you would drive by the foundry on the interstate and could see them pouring metal...

I am pretty sure there will be some sort of commercial project here in the not too distant future, it is neat to know what it was like before it became a new art area or restaurant...

@@davidsaylors it would be nice to see it go back into production! I'm sure you are up on metal production but most of our raw cast iron endplates are coming from China and Brazil and they are nothing but junk metal, full of porosity..What is bad about the situation is part of our company is a die cast company about a mile from the plant..it is still in operation but instead of expanding it they chose to buy from China...I understand everything is super competitive and they say that they can have them made in China or Brazil and pay for shipping cheaper than they can have them made at a foundry they already own that's a mile away..it's sad to see because they pay those people in the mid $20's per hour with excellent benefits...One good thing is that they tried having the bearing journals and band rabbit machined in China...it was a nightmare...lol..some of them were off by a 1/10 not .001 but 1/10 of a inch 😂😂😂😂 they would hang me if I did that especially since some of our motors go in grain silos and have to be explosion proof !

Interesting video about an interesting place. Those wooden bricks were fascinating to me. Is this the site of the "Mill Town" development that has been in the news recently? Thanks, David!

I think that project is going to happen up at the old Alstom building they have been dismantling slowly. This has something going on though as there were people in suits walking around the site yesterday...

Wood floors were easier to stand on. I. Have seen the same thing in an refinery at Heath Ohio, those floors were in room where drums were handled. No chance of sparks from metal drums being moved on concrete.

That makes a lot of sense now that you explain it. I had never seen anything like that before and I notice this sort of thing...

This is a cool project David. I may have to start something similar here in Enterprise. Things are growing so fast here businesses, neighborhoods, farm lands being taken over. Soon not much history will be left…so to speak. What lens was on your Leica? 50mm?
@davidsaylors
@davidsaylors 2 года назад
Yeah, do it. Grab images and just store them for a year then go back and shoot it again and see the difference. I have the 50mm Summicron on the SL2 here. You have a good eye!

David They did a similar project in downtown Los Angles it was a old beer brewery it's now a arts district. Oce again you are a witness to the De Industrialization of the USA it has made a fortune for the Demolition and Recycling (scrap) industries . Having spent 50 years in Scrap I should know. It makes me sad to witness it. Afterwards they will want your pictures to show the beforehand.

I can see that completely. The who city of Chattanooga has shifted in the last 30 years from industrial manufacturing to art and technology and the main business structures and I really dont know how I feel about it to be honest. I like the coffee shops, but I also like knowing that something of substance is made here too...
