I would be willing to bet, the people who watch this video, and have the utmost of appreciation for it, are the same people who have taken this extraordinarily scenic drive.
@@MileageMikeTravels you are going to like it then when/if you ever make it to the main road through Quincy Illinois... it is the softest bumpiest (lots of patches) road that I have ever been on myself
Thank you for such a wonderful video! Back in 1975, my family traveled to the Keys for vacation. My most vivid memory of that trip is riding down the old 7 Mile Bridge and being able to see the fish swimming in the perfectly clear water below, which appeared more bluish on one side of the bridge, and greenish on the other. I've not been able to go back since and had wondered what riding through there now would be like. Now I know.
U.S. Highway 1 (US 1) in Florida runs 545 miles (877 km) along the state's east coast- from Key West to its crossing of the St. Marys River into Georgia north of Boulogne -and south of Folkston. US 1 was designated through Florida when the United States Numbered Highway System was established in 1926. The road is maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). From its national southern terminus in Key West, US 1 carries the Overseas Highway- the Keys main highway -north to the mainland, entering South Florida. From South Florida to Jacksonville, US 1 runs close to the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, generally east of Interstate 95 (I-95) and west of State Road A1A (SR A1A), running roughly parallel with both roads. North of Jacksonville, US 1 curves inland towards the St. Mary's River as it enters Georgia.
Originally a railroad, and later a highway. A 1935 hurricane ended the railroad part of it. Most of the original bridges remain and are used today for pedestrian and bike traffic, or as fishing piers. Those look to have been fun to drive (?). And the once-quiet terminus of the extended US 1 is now the mother of all tourist traps.
