I managed to snag a full case of US Halal Meal Individuals. The Halal ration is essentially a Meal Ready to Eat (MRE) but specifically designed to meet the dietary limitations of America's Muslim troops. In the review I taste tested one of the more interesting sounding menus, Saag Chole with Lamb. This case was packed in 2017 and unlike a regular MRE these meals don't last forever so several of the components are already showing their age. Halal Meals are loaded with snacks and several items that can't be found elsewhere. The pudding was delicious!!!

as of last year and maybe 2019 halal mREs are packed in the same kind of bag that AmeriQuall uses as the inner packaging of the MREs they pack. the snacks are also in the standard tan pouches as uses in standard MREs. the Saag Chole is pronounced "sag" (sagging) "cho-ley". may not be correct, but I bet halal MREs may also be given to Jewish soldiers who at certain times in the year do not combine meat and dairy in the same meal. I have had foriegn halal rations that do cdontain coffee (and creamer in the case of the Brit rations)

Reminded me of Steve1989 when trying the rancid chex pieces! The main looked very good to me. Great review once again, my friend! I have started tasting and reviewing some MRE's with mixed results. Not a fan of the Spoako reduced sodium meal I bought, but the MRE Star case I got has been quite pleasant thus far. Once I get more comfortable, I hope to post some. I have a gun I'd like to talk to you about. Trying to find out what it's worth.

Saag is very common dish in Pakistan , probably not spinch one but with mustard plants

I work at a military base and get to see some of the PO's. We're paying $150 for standard 12 unit MRE kits and $98 for Halal. June 2023.

The lamb dish looks like the spinach fettuccine main in the regular US MRE.

The food item called SAAG CHOLE shall be pronounced as SAAG CHHOLAY. In this dish the Chholay/Chole i.e., the Chick Peas is blended with Saag which are the green leaves of a couple of vegetables like Spinach, Mustard etc.

I just don't understand why they decided to give these such a short shelf life. Seems like they would save money if they were good for at least 3 years but who knows.

That looked so yummy, except rancid snack. I love spinach and chickpeas so my mouth was watering. Never have eaten halal, on purpose, but I would not turn up my nose at what I have seen so far!! Thanks.

I missed this, the first time around. Sorry, RR. Great case of food and, information. Next week, In theory, I have some HDR'S, coming in. I will check them off of my bucket list. I hope to add, Halal, soon. Your tropical punch, dissolved better than mine did this week. Mine, well, was non negotiable, about being drank. 99% fight you to the end, and, they win! Rest of components, look excellent. The main, was just A little light on the meat, it would seem. Apparently still decent. I am glad, you enjoyed the majority of the meal. Again, great lesson, on this type of meal. Need me yell. Peace, John. Great job!

These look like a great mre, the main seems liked it looked really nice shame the sides don't hold out, seems strange they use the silver plastic rather than the laminated pouches. Cheers mate.

Saag is a famous punjabi dish which made by mustard leaves and spanish.the next word "chole" is hindi,urdu word that is used for chickpeas.i wonder how an indian dish in Us MRE

While I like canned spinach, I absolutely detest the "creamy spinach fettuccini" MRE. This looks much like that stuff. 😝 The gubmint really needs to put the butterscotch pudding into the regular MREs. I love that stuff! 😎

Not sure about the food card but you can find a regular MRE for around $10. These Halal meals are a bit more expensive $20-30 usually.

Some MREs are available on Amazon, individual meals and cases. Not cheap though! They have Russian rations too, including the "space food" tubes.
