The old times of gaming, world in flames was a masrterpiece of destruction and a classic world in conflict game. I remember that even the same goverment of venezuela said something about this game. ( let just said that venezuela was not happy)
Yep, I remember when they "banned" violent videogames from this country because of that game. Nobody ever paid attention to that ban (stores just kept selling as usual)
It was a cool concept that was ultimately released as a buggy half-finished mess. Maybe the game managed to be fun in spite of it, but it was very obviously still in what would be considered late-alpha by most studios standards when it was rolled out.
@@ReySchultz121 Venezuelan here, no, no one really cares about some obscure video games, specially our police force which is more occupied being corrupt
Anyone else find it weird that the developers decided North Korea would nuke part of Venezuela, considering Mercs 1 took place in North Korea and, presumably, would have ended with the country being denuclearized?
Actually, all that North Korea supposedly did was give Solano either a neutron bomb (A.N. ending) or a plutonium bomb (Chinese ending) so that he could nuke either side. Though I do agree that it makes absolutely zero sense, at all.
They needed a villainous ally for sequel, but still lacked the balls to make China one. So here we are. I wonder if chinese gamers EVER legitimately bought any of the games that tried to suck it up to their government? Including the fact that gamers in Hong Kong and Taiwan would deliberately oppose such moves?
@@TheArklyte Yeah the fact they made the Chinese the closest thing to the good guys in this game was pretty telling on what the target audience was. Still dispite the propaganda I still choose to side with the AN beacuse I have forsite to see what a bad idea a Chinese victory would be in this timeline lol. Then again Peng was in the first game so I guess it's good that they kept him in character for 2 games.
@@alphawolfgang173There would have been mercs 3 long ago maybe even more by now but EA the worst company in the entire industry killed the studio who made the series and continue to own the IP anyways so thats pretty much impossible.
A mixture of Hinds, Alouettes, Amx-40s, and Scorpian 90s. Interesting choices for a Latin American dictator. And I nearly forgot the dudes just casually carrying DShK heavy machine guns like they're PKMs.
Funny enough Mercenaries 2 has a fairly accurate depiction of Venezuela’s military equipment at the time, though those are AMX-30s rather than 40s. They used all of those (though not DShKs so much), plus other weapons they use in game like AK-103s and a lot of that equipment is still in use by their military. Some of it like the AMX-30 are supplemented by modern T-72 variants, others like the Alouettes have been replaced and are no longer in use, but still, it’s accurate for the time. It’s a side effect of them having a series of pro-US government for a long time before Hugo Chavez was elected in the late 1990s, and after that they used their newly nationalized oil industry to start buying Hinds, setting up a factory to produce AKs to supplant the FAL, etc. Leads to a very interesting military which has both Russian Su-30s and American F-16s as it’s main fighter aircraft, with AMX-30s driving in parades with T-72s, and more.
This game of the masterpiece when it came out it was the best sandbox I ever play in a long time not many modern games can’t compare so much choice of vehicles and weapons. I think I spent hundreds of hours on this game replying it and screwing around with the vehicles
This game is more fun in PS 2 version because of its feature, but sure it has terrible graphics on that console. However, in PS 2 version you can store any vehicles you stole from all factions such as UH-60 Blackhawk, Ambassador (AH-64 Apache), Ewan's Helicopter, and all vehicles that not featured in Xbox/PC version.
Yeah. I played both version. First the PS2 one, after that the PC version. I was disappointed when I realized there was no storing vehicle feature in the PC version.
If you want to play it then get the ps3 or xbox 360 if you can't get them then watch it on youtube i find remastering games a silly thing to do games should stay on the platforms they were released on and not remastering them for other consoles
@@samfisher9661 They should be updated and re-released on newer consoles and on PC store fronts so you don't have to find an old console and copy of the game
@@samfisher9661 you’re right. I also think if people want to listen to old music, they shouldnt get a digital remaster, they should search endlessly for the various methods of listening to recorded music like they were originally intended
Except general peng, he's the only honorable one that achualy holds up his end of the bargain. He's also one of the only returning characters besides the mercs.
@@DemicleasPretty sure everyone you work for other than ofc the VZ government honors your agreements since that mechanic is central to progressing in the game so what do you mean?
@@jaydenshepard7928 The UN guy goes back on the deal. Stating something along the lines of, "Did you really think we'd give you a nuclear weapon?" But is then forced to give you it when their HQ is bombed by Serano. The Chinese guy is like "Of course, we'll send it over right away".
Cool, I had them both on xbox360, the first was a blast, the second one was a bit more difficult, was hoping there would be a third to finish the trilogy off, I guess not, no point remastering older games, only gives the whole game updated graphics
Same, when I finally got it I would be on the menu and on the top it would say connecting to the servers and then freeze, turns out in order to play I had to turn my connection to the internet off in order to play.
I feel like if they ever think about remastering either of these games, they should do it for both of them. And put them into one package. Cause I've never played the first one so a remaster could probably introduce me to it.
You unlock the Allied Nations later in the game, right? I never got that on my own game as a kid but I always liked joining multiplayer games of people who had gotten that far lol.
Honestly, I wish they continued making games, 1 was a good game, 2 was an experimental game, 3 could have taken the lessons learned from both, and made a great game. But they canceled it, because EA.
I am happy you are making vids about Mercenaries 2, but because EA >:( ruined the studio and franchise, it hurts to watch these videos. I still have my PS3 and Mercenaries 2 game. I kept my PS3 so I can play it. That is just how insanely fun the game is.
U can still connecting to EA servers(ps3)but u need to accept EA terms in another game,i bought BF bad company and now i can play mercenaries 2 without freezing the screen as soon u enter in the menu, idk if u can invite a friend to ur session because im waiting for my friend buy mercs2 to test this.i ll update this comment to let u guys know.Edit:U CAN STILL PLAYING WITH UR FRIEND ONLINE,but can be really hard to join the session, both needs to have NAT type 2 or 1.
VZ government gets ripped off by american oil companies, VZ businessman launches a coup against american puppet government, america invades, china also invades and you can side with either faction to kill VZ leader.
Venezuela unites all of south america, and hijacks american orbital satellite weapon system to launch tungsten rockets to american cities. Later americans use special force called Ghosts to defeat the federation. Oops wrong game
1:50 Wait a sec, North Korea! Okay ether this takes place before or during the first mercenary game or it’s in the future and north korea still exist and is still violating un treaty’s again.
@@lemunt4906 I thought you were talking about how buggy the game is. Cause it is a very buggy game. I definitely think it needs a remaster so that alot of the bugs can be fixed.
EA shut it down.. they're the ones who bought pandemic.. the third one was being developed, I think it was set in cuba but it got shutdown all of a sudden..
