Personally I'd knock Sing down a tier or two just for the fact that i don't think either movie had a single original song they literally just took a bunch of popular songs and only used those. It's a musical about talking animals who want to be in famous musicals and there isn't ONE original? Just seems kinda lazy to me.

Ok who put The Lorax over The Rise Of Gru?

Okay. My one gripe is Lorax not being with hop as one of the worst movies illumination has ever put out. The main character is not likable or memorable, the Lorax is a complete douche in all honesty, the completely butchered the once-ler and what he actually represented, and missed the entire point the Dr Seuss book was trying to make by completely villainizing corporate expansion and ONLY being for the environment. While I like the message it still misses the point. 1. Main character is creepy and unlikeable bar none. He constantly crashes his planes into a girl’s yard just to have an excuse to talk to her, fantasizes about her, and was willing to risk the seed’s safety he was entrusted with for a kiss. (The family wasn’t that great either tbh, pretty boring). He is selfish and I don’t think that particularly changed. He did it for the girl from beginning to end. 2. The Lorax while very passionate should not have tried to outright make the once Ler go away by sending him on a random river by breaking in. Then proceed to crash into his home with all the wildlife after agreeing not to cut down trees. He could have left them came back if another tree was cut. 3. They butchered the onceler. Giving him a backstory is fine. I’m all for it. BUT making him a singer?? Just… no. The onceler represented corporations but not necessarily corporate greed. While he profited off of his product tens of folds, he also made points to the Lorax in the original that his products were making so many people happy, their lives better, easier, etc. saying that a few trees is worth that happiness. The onceler was meant to be a representation of when corporations go too far for whatever reason it may be. It’s was a story about balance, and not taking things too far. Make your products to make people’s lives better but don’t sacrifice so much of the environment to do it. And my final point is that he could have been saved as a character, and even one of the better character’s in the movie IF they used the other song “biggering” they were going to make him sing instead of How bad can i be?. On that note, his complete shift into cutting down every tree is stupid and makes no sense. He could’ve built a machine to extract tufts from the tree instead of plucking one at a time. It’s a dumb move both business wise and common sense wise. He didn’t have to cut down a single tree. They want us to sympathize with him yet he doesn’t earn it. The onceler is supposed to be a man who regrets destroying all trees. Not one that regretted destroying a few. Also, it kinda weakens the narrative to have the viewer see his face. We never saw the onceler’s face, showing that anybody could become him or ending up in his situation. 4. This is my final point and it has a lot to do with what I just said. They missed the point of the story. The book and cartoon ended with the boy having the seed, with him being left with a decision to make. He was the unless the Lorax mentioned. Unless someone made a change, nothing was going to get better. Having a final climax where the boy decides to plant the seed is that final nail in the coffin. We don’t know what decision the boy made, it was up to the reader to decide what to do. The main character wasn’t supposed to be that fleshed out and we wasn’t supposed to see the decision he made. It was a story about compromise, not going to far, making change, moderation, and seeing BOTH sides of the coin. The onceler was a villainized for going to far, not for his motives and what he wanted. Having the story only be about the environmental side is a complete misunderstanding of what the Lorax was trying to teach. That there aren’t always simple solutions but you have to work together to come to one that is optimal for both sides to co exist. I have many more reasons but I think these are the main ones. My brother plays this movie commonly. So trust me I formed this opinion after a long time.

I just don't like most illumination films I have watched. They rarely subvert expectation or take risks; they are just too standard. I do like despicable me 1 and kind of like 2

It would seem more like joe would be the one to like the Minions movie since he’s so old and childish in most of these.

Ain't gonna lie, sing and onward were bad movies. The animation doesn't line up with the voices in sign and that is why the money printer illumination is no longer good.

They literally haven’t made a single good movie. Illumination is a stain on the animation industry, and you’d need to have the attention span of an ant to enjoy Mario. The positive response to Mario has to be a side effect of TikTok lowering people’s standards.
