Alaska, one of the few states with a proper song that actually sounds like an anthem

I love how so many state songs are happy and upbeat, almost like a John Philips Sousa march, and then occasionally you'll get one like Alaska that's much more emotional.

Born and Raised in AK, left for college, studied abroad, traveled internationally and my career has landed me in Seattle. There are many wonderful places with beautiful people, but none quite like Alaska. Not because it's perfect, but because how those from Alaska embrace and handle imperfection. Oh and after you've fished in Alaska, you laugh at what everyone else thinks is a "keeper".

The first manned interstellar spaceship should be named Alaska in the honor of its peaceful song and its astronomically accurate flag.

I'm so freaking proud of being Alaskan... Damn, every time I hear this song I tear up-

This is a shining example of a great state song. If it can actually trigger emotion in a person, it does better than most others.

I once had a girlfriend. She talked a lot about Alaska, as she came from it, but then she moved to Alaska in 2nd Grade. Every time I hear “Alaska” it makes me cry, but it’s state song is a jam!

I remember singing it in elementary school as well. Back in the mid-1950s.

I lived in Alaska n the 60's we sang the state song every day at school & said the Pledge of Alegance! I only remembered the 1st verse, as I was listening some of the words came back to me! Thank you for putting the video up!

aw man i miss living there. i lived in North Pole since 2011 for like 6 years because that was where i was born. (i wasn’t born in 2011 btw) moved away about 2 years ago. anyone here who lives or lived in that area?

I was lucky enough to hear Alaskan Michael McDonald sing the AK flag song at the Sullivan arena at a Uaa hockey game , a short time before he passed away! I used to go to shows at the fly by night AK show when he was a crew member! Priceless! I miss old Alaska!

My grandpa was in the marines during Vietnam and he always watches ww2 films. He said he joined it at age 17 because he wanted to get away from his parents who hated him. He would always use an M14 on battle and the gun he loved was an M60. He also joined it because he was stabbed in the leg at 15 by some maniac and whenever he met his parents after his service. He would always leave but his grandparents, he liked them more because they never hated him. He is alive and is an heavily sitter and always cares about me and my family. I’d never met his parents but he joined a cop in Indiana. He watches old films like Stagecoach , Rio Bravo , She wore a yellow ribbon , the man who hsot liberty valance , in harms way , and the Alamo because he always liked sands of Iwo Jima just like me and my dad. We all 3 like guns in film and games , my Dad dosent own a gun but me and grandpa have to BB Gun rifles for our safe and my Grandpa said it always reminds him of Vietnam with his friend Joe I think was his name. He’s in the 1971-72 Marine books as he is in marine corps in California.
