I left Miami and moved to Portugal. Best decision ever. You made a right move. You gain quality of life and need less material things. Will wait for part two
@suzanne296 the healthcare questions always get me. A lot of European countries have universal healthcare. My father has been through 8 years of cancer including treatment, surgery etc and it has cost essentially nothing.
The US isn’t what it was anymore and that’s the hard truth, anyone saying otherwise is completely blind, I’ve visited Spain countless times and have family there and I absolutely love it, as soon as I can I’ll leave the US and move over there, I love it, it’s a different world.
Places change nothing stays the same. I am from Los Angeles and most places have changed or don't exist anymore which makes me sad. However, I have traveled to many countries and I am always glad when I return to my city. The rest of the country is a different story, I would never live in any other state or city in the US. The only other city I have loved almost as much is Tokyo.
Yes, please complete Part 2. Learning about cultural differences intrigues me. Your apartment is perfect! I enjoy the sense of coziness and contentment.
Part 2, 3, 4 and so on Please! I LOVE hearing and seeing the difference of Cultures. THANK YOU FOR SHARING Your Life there❤. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You Ale!!!
Your kitchen is aesthetically pleasing and cosy. Your flat in the centre of Alicante is marvellous. People are jealous of you living in Spain, which beats the USA any day! If you eat dinner at 9 p.m. that’s considered early in Spain, it can be 10 p.m. or even later! Amazon will leave parcels with a neighbour or nearby business, if you have a chat with them beforehand. You can also offer to reciprocate for your neighbours' packages. Disfruta!
I would much rather live in Spain than the U.S. My reasons are different from others, but I would not miss having a car for one. I loved taking the train between Madrid, Sevilla, and Malaga ❤ I also like walking around the city and discovering new places! Love this vlog Ale🎉
It’s really terrible people make you feel like you need to explain yourself so much or try and put you down. I think it’s great you all decided you wanted to move and did it. You’re with family and doing what you love. It shows your kids not to be afraid of change and adventure. Thank you for being so genuine. Keep being you. That’s why I started subscribing. Anyone who feels the need to be negative can kick rocks.
You are right about consumerism here in Spain. It isn’t a thing. It doesn’t matter what anyone else has or hasn’t. No competitiveness. It was a breath of fresh air for me. No compunction for bigger and/or better.
You made a wonderful choice!!! Having a cookie cutter home in a place that is defined by car culture and Disney is so restricted compared to what you have chosen!!! I lived all over the world and will forever be grateful for the perspective I have on the world. Moving to the US has been an eye-opener. I don't have a car and ride a bike or use transit and people look at me like I am crazy without realising what a privilege it is to be able to actually live in the world whilst moving through it.
I moved here from the Uk 13 years ago and it was the best decision I’ve made….i love your videos as you’re going through everything I went through…..I live just up the coast from you and I love it 😊
I learned a long time ago from my friends from Pamplona: work to live and not live to work. When we get to visit Spain we enjoy very much the walking and public transportation. Food is healthier, my gastrointestinal issues are nonexistent while visiting Spain. I love Spain 🇪🇸
@@WonderfullyAle So happy for you and your family, quality of life is the most precious gift. Please keep us posted, I enjoy very much your blogs. Gracias 🙏
LOVE how down-to-Earth you are ! I lived in Belgium for several years & the cultural differences are similar. I had to chuckle when you said that about Sundays & everything being closed. It has changed some in bigger cities in Europe, as you know, but a definite change. Your videos are very refreshing, so keep them coming!
Why is different worse to people? Living in Europe would be a dream to me. I love to travel, so I can enjoy different food, meet new friends and just enjoy a new culture. Those making ridiculous comments are just jealous.
This was a fun video. It's so interesting to hear about the differences. I commend you all for making this move and you have great attitudes about this big life change. Your boys will be so grateful for BOTH experiences. Would love to hear more!
Listen don’t worry about the vlogs being boring or that you have to do “stuff” or activities to make it interesting…you talking to the camera, washing dishes, telling us your thoughts is enough. You want to know why? Because we tune in for YOU not the activities. The activities and your profession may be what brought us to your channel but we stay because we’re invested and interested in you! I could watch you organize your spice cabinet as long as you’re talking to the camera expressing your thoughts about your family, the books you’re reading, the people you’re meeting, the frustrations you’re having, etc., etc. Just talk to us like you’re talking to a good friend or your mom…that’s what makes us connect with you ❤
I love the path you and your family have chosen, and i love that youre remaining true to yourself and handling the culture differences so gracefully. Love from Australia 🇦🇺 🦘🐨
I would love to have you do more videos just like this where you talk about what your life is like there and how it’s different. Please please don’t get discouraged by people leaving mean comments!!! I’ve enjoyed your videos for years and whatever you want to share with us is wonderful!!!
Haven't read the comments but.....have you considered buying a fold-up shopping push-cart to maximize on your efficiency when grocery shopping. When I lived in Chicago, before buying a car, that's what I did. I could even wheel it onto the bus. Made all the difference in the world!
Aly, I have only been to Italy once and all of the cultural differences you noted, I also felt. I LOVED the differences! Such a healthier way of thinking, of living, especially the shopping/buying mindset & how walking allows you to interact with your world & people. I was very sorry to hear people left comments that said how could you leave a big house in FL for what you have now. It’s not surprising, but very sad to me. Your life looks incredible and something I would jump to if I could. Some Americans have a very surface level way of valuing life. You are amazing and a gentle person. Please don’t be dismayed by those comments. They just don’t get it 🤷♀️
Love that you are sharing this with us. I did a semester in Valencia and it was probably the least stressful semester I took. I wish the US would slow down and be more in the moment. I recently talked to my husband too about moving abroad to live a slower life.
hi Ale, finally got around to watching this. It's amazing how different things are done in Spain to the States. So, yes a part 2 would be great to see.
Very interesting!..it would be cool to hear any cultural shocks from your husbands side too, I know he isn’t on camera but maybe you could share them. Does he work from home or in an office? If office, I would like to hear about any cultural differences there!
@@WonderfullyAle All of the United States had what were called Blue Laws. It prohibited what could be done on Sunday. They mostly ended in the 80s but not everywhere and not at the same time. I remember having to go to the grocery on Saturday night for anything we might need on Sunday.
Regarding the Amazon packages I left instructions that they can leave it in my doorstep, just ring a neighbour's bell and leave it in front of my door, but I know my neighbours pretty well, and we're just 8 units in my apartment building. And still the delivery guy usually calls to make sure if we're home or if he can leave it :)
So, I was curious as to the package you received while filming this video. I thought you would share it 😂 I love watching these types of vlogs. 🙌🏼 you look so happy 😁
Not having a decent clothes dryer would be hard for me to deal with, and not having a shower curtain or glass door is shocking. Not sure about Spain but I was shocked when we got to Florence and there was a shower and NO curtain OR door. LOL My niece had a "we room" bathroom in Copenhagen where the hand held shower head was hung on the side of the sink and the bathroom was all time and it was a wet room. Hilarious. You can see I pick the MOST important things. Don't worry, there is a gal on here that lives in France and explains differences all the time. She also says it's not good, or bad, it just is. That's how it's done in France and WE in the US do it differently. Frankly I LOVE the public transportation in Europe. It is so great to be able to get around and it's easy to use and if you are careful how you do it, it's pretty affordable.
Hi Ale👋🏼LOVE your new hair! And that color blue looks great on you! I absolutely love your videos even more so since you moved to Spain! YAY for you & your sweet family! 🎉🎉🎉Sending much love to you all💕💕💕
You are living a dream of many American people. My husband is ready to move to Spain any day! Don’t listen to haters with no manners or life experience. Big kitchen can’t make you happy 😂 I am proud of you and how you are embracing the change 🤍🤍🤍
Living in Spain is healthier...You exercise more and eat better...And you don't have to worry about the doctors bills like here in the US if you get sick
Completely understand living with less is the ultimate contentment. We downsized and I live in a much smaller and “older” space but we’re happy and content also. 😊
Ale as long as you and your family are healthy and happy that is all that matters. I do think people are more contented in Spain, late lunches families can get together eat and chat. Lovely that everywhere is closed on Sundays. Definitely more family time and talking. I think you are settling in very well and cooking lots of lovely meals. Enjoy your weekend. 🙏💖🌠🇨🇦
Since they do everything later there do their work schedules and schools start later too? I would love that because it would give more time to relax or do some things at home before starting the day.
Nice! Thanks for satisfying some of my curiosity. Yeah, the majority US economy is based on consumer spending. Especially in Orlando with addition to their services industry. So, I can imagine the cultural change in that aspect.
Due to all that walking done daily , you’ll see senior citizens walking without any assistance.i love Spain and is my dream to live there at least part time, not sure which part yet.
I’m happy to watch any and all of your videos but I was curious if you’ll be flying again with your American carrier. Stay well. Enjoy your new country. I love seeing all the new things you and. Your family are experiencing 😊
The US is one of a kind it’s beautiful. We have so many unlimited amount of resources I go back-and-forth between Europe and the US I live in the US but the lifestyle that I have here in the US is minimalistic so whether I’m here in the US or Spain/Europe they’re both the same for me. :)
Do you find yourself trying to live/eat etc the way you did in the US? Do families that are from Spain live the same ways generally that you guys are or are you living an Americanized version of Spain? If that makes sense
The walking thing. We have just got back to the UK from Orlando on vacation. I am used to getting around in my electric wheelchair, everywhere. but Orlando was definately set up for cars and getting the wheelchair in and out of a car to just go a couple a minutes down the street just because there was no pavement or you didnt know there would be a pavement was very hard for me to comprehend. Also I dont know if this is a cultural thing but here in the UK when we walk our dogs we alway use Poopy bags and pick up after them. While staying at a dog friend hotel in Orlando just after the evacuation I saw multiple dogs walked and their owners never picked up after them is this a "thing" in the USA and what about Spain?
ALE, ANY VIDEO YOU POST DEAR IS GOING TO BE WONDERFUL 😍. I ❤ TO WATCH THEM ALL. DAY IN THE LIFE, GROCERY HAULS, VACATIONS, FLIGHT ✈️ ATTENDANT ONES....ALL GREAT 👍. YOU'RE AN AMAZING MOTHER AND WIFE. TAKE CARE DEAR AND GOD BLESS YOU 🙏✨. PS I'D ❤ TO SEE SOME OLD CHURCHES AND MUSEUMS WITH PAINTINGS FROM THE LOCALS AND MASTERS.
Spain is lovely. Thank you for sharing. Please share healthcare practices in Spain. Would love to see that. The USA isn't what it was. Not to mention retirement in the USA is super expensive. So happy for you Ale!
Are you at Swallow coffee shop? That looks like this cute coffee shop my husband and I went to in June on our trip to Alicante! We love it there so much! I love watching your life there. Also hello from a United flight attendant! x
May I say, you are speaking Spanish, maybe not Castillano but it’s still Spanish. South American Spanish is different, slightly, there are some nuances in Grammar and general vocabulary too. One word I remember was car. In Castillano it is coche and I remember mySpanish Teacher at Secondary school in Trinidad 🇹🇹 saying in S America it was caro/carro. Don’t know if it’s changed but that always stuck with me. Anyway, good luck and best wishes.
Same way in Mexico ..... I would go to stores and they were closed from 2 to 4: 00pm ..... Now this was in small towns in Mexico I'm not sure about the big town but I'm sure it's the same!!
Saludos. Solo informar que en España hay cinco comidas al día. Desayuno, ligero, almuerzo a media mañana mas contundente. La comida entre 1 y 3. merienda a media tarde y cena a partir de las 21 horas. Saludos y que la felicidad te acompañe.
Maybe as I’m British we also are different from America, to me it’s shows the mentality of the people who’ve made comments like leaving your nice kitchen and moving into that flat etc …. Well wow 😮your family is together in a nice safe warm home with everything you need to live happily, everyone is healthy ( except usual viruses 😂) and you enjoy going out and about together and you have family nearby. Who cares if it’s not the absolute best kitchen in the world it serves its purpose ( I mean best in their eyes btw) sad how some people think materialistic items matter the most and are more important than being happy, healthy and together. Enjoy your new life in Spain come visit the uk again if you can.
I respectfully disagree. If one chooses to rest on Sunday, that's their choice. We should never decide such things for others. My day of rest is Saturday, but I do not expect the world around me to shut down that day. It's MY choice.
yes! we fell in love with spain in 2016, and wanted to move here ever since. Our family moved here later, the only influence they had was the city we decided on.
Number 1 I absolutely love Spain!! It’s one of my most favs!!! Girl if people only knew how wonderful it is to be there. Girl stop reading the haters crap they put out!! You’re in the right place for your family. If I could move there I would. Just relax and forget how things are here in the states. I go there for the way they live their lives. Believe me if I can make it happen I will be back many times. Girl these people can hide behind their screens and don’t have to answer. I’m here and I’m sure so many more are too. I bet the haters have never been abroad because if they have more than a few times they would not have crap to say bad. Girl you’re fine just do your family. That’s what I’m here for. Can you throw in some restaurant reviews though 😂 I think that would be great.
Helo hi it’s so good video , cultural differences do matter in life , some times you look upset in Spain 😂 Q: what is you future plans for the job, will you look for new job?
part 2 please. I have a question. how much is the rent for a 2 or 3 bedroom apt over there compared to the same 2 or 3 bedroom apt in USA? I'm asking because I don't know what size apt you have there. I know there furnished there and not here. but just the difference between Apt's. a big shock is you have to take the boys on a city bus to school. and here they ride a school bus. also there school day is shorter. Is the school year the same amount of months? thank you for sharing.
it's hard to say, because there are a lot of factors that play into this. but when we were looking for apts, they would range between 700-1300 euros. depending on the area, and if the owners were trying to take advantage because we were coming from the US.
More love from Australia. I think that your boys will benefit so much from all these cultural differences and be so much more employable and aware in their lives
Besos!!!! Esperando la segunda parte!!
As someone who speaks both, I can still understand British english with no problem (besides a few words) but I can get by with no problem. Spain spanish is so different. Things are articulated differently, different words etc.
@@WonderfullyAle Native Spanish speakers both sides of the Atlantic have zero problems understanding each other. Different accents, some different conjugations and some different word choices and that's it. You are not really bilingual, your Spanish is not fully native. Your education was in English
@@BobelSilencioso-g2i you’re telling me I’m not bilingual? 🤣 I am fluent in Spanish, I grew up I. A Spanish only speaking household. I stand by what I said. Also, I went to school in El Salvador as well.
Your kitchen is perfect! It is common for women to put other women down on here. Just ignore them! So happy for you that you are enjoying your new life there! Would be happy to just keep seeing your everyday life and whatever you want to share.....
Again, I respectfully disagree. It's entering dangerous territory when anyone attempts to legislate the choices and behaviors of others. My day of rest is Saturday; however, I don't expect the world around me to shut down to accommodate MY choice.
