Recover USB drive not recognized? Try Recoverit: bit.ly/2QeGkKH
The "USB not recognized" error message commonly occurs when using USB device. So this video will show you detailed solutions on how to fix usb not recognized on Window 10/7/8.
Solution 1: Use Hardware and Device Troubleshooter
1. Open Control Panel (Press ‘Windows+S’ and type ‘control panel’ and click OK)
2. Select “Troubleshoot” on the Control Panel and click “Hardware and Sound”
3. Select “Hardware and Devices” and click “Next”. It will detect if there are any problems, most probably it will recognize and try to fix the USB device problem automatically.
4. After a while, click on “Apply this fix” and try to see whether the issue is getting fixed or not
Solution 2: Uninstall and then reconnect the USB device
1. Open Device Manager (Press ‘Windows+S’ and type Device Manager.)
2. Select Disk Drives from the list of hardware
3. Right click the external USB drive that has the “USB device not recognized” issue. Select Uninstall.
4. After uninstalled, unplug the USB
5. Wait for a while and then reconnect the USB device, check to see if the USB drive has loaded in the Windows Explorer.
Solution 3: Update the USB Device Drivers
1. Right click on Windows Logo and click Device manager to open “Device Manager”;
2. Target to “Universal Serial Bus controllers” and double click on it. It will display a list of USB controllers.
3. Right click each of them and select “Update driver”
4. Select “Search automatically for updated driver software” on the window and allow the process to run.
5. After that, you will get noticed that The best drivers for your device are already installed

Solution 6: Disable USB selective suspend settings 03:48
By the way, in the worst-case scenario, if you may have to format the drive to make it usable again and lose the data that was on the USB drive to circumvent the device not recognized error, you can try Recoverit data recovery software to recover your data!

why bother doing a video section of the tutorial if you're not even going to show the correct steps to match the sound. The hardware and devices section doesn't exist and this shows uninstalling the disk drive and doesn't even go into the usb category at all.

after searching for hours on how to fix my old usb i found out that the usb category is gone in windows 10 but you can get there by opening cmd ( go search cmd at start menu ) and type: msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic, for me it found the USB mass storage device driver problems, just click next ect and it will ask you to "apply this fix"

When searching, you're adding an extra step of pressing s. Yes this will open search, but windows key will also search if you start typing. Also - why use two different ways of getting into Device manager (Windows key + s and type device manager vs right click on start menu click device manager)? The USB port is fine. Everything else I plug in works fine. I am trying to open a lexar thumb drive, and I get that message. The thumb drive is also fine. It works on other computers. I tried all of the above.

hi . just watched the video and have a question . all my usb devices work fine except one a usb flash drive (zixa brand) and it show unrecognized and in "DM" it shows the error code 43 . if plugged in the flash drive only appears in "DM' , and none of your methods work (did not try recoverit since i dont care whats on the drive ) , so if i were to try and reformat it in this condition how would i go about doing that ?, can you explain it to me or give a link to a video or guide to reformat it ?

I solved mine by choosing the AMD drivers from the directory, rather than let Windows manage it. The culprit is the USB3.1 XHC Controller. After the driver was installed, the annoying loop notification of the "USB not recognized" stopped.

What if USB Mass Storage is not showing under Universal Serial Bus controllers? I can open Flash Drive on other computer. I may have disable something but I am not sure what.

Solution 1 Check to see if the USB device or hard drive is faulty It takes about 10s to recognize some USB devices or removable hard drives. Using a USB device or a removable hard drive that has exceeded its life expectancy can cause permanent damage and it not being recognized. In this case, you should use a new USB device or removable hard drive. Due to the different sizes of USB devices and removable hard drives, they may not be recognized when inserted. In this case, you can slightly adjust the USB device or the removable hard drive so they fully connect to the computer port. If there are no faults with the USB device or removable hard drive, try the following solutions. Solution 2: Remove and reinsert the USB device Open Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers, click USB Mass Storage Device > Uninstall device , and then reinsert the USB device. Check the USB settings 1. Enter "control panel" in the search box and click Control Panel. 2. View by Small icons and click Power Options. 3. Click Change plan settings next to Balanced (recommended). 4. Click Change advanced power settings. 5. Click the + icons next to USB settings and USB selective suspend setting, disable the USB selective suspend setting, and click OK. Then insert the USB device again. Solution 3 Check if the files or directories in the USB device or the removable hard drive are damaged 1. Double-click the icon of the USB device or the removable hard drive. A message will then be displayed indicating that a file or directory is damaged. Confirm the message. 2. Enter "cmd" in the search box, right-click Command Prompt, and choose Run as administrator. 3. Assuming that the drive letter is G, enter the "chkdsk g: /f" command and press Enter. After the check is complete, you can continue to use the drive. Solution 4 Check to see if the USB device or removable hard drive is partitioned 1. Right-click This PC and choose Manage. 2. Click Disk Management. 3. Right-click a removable drive and click New Simple Volume. 4. Follow the onscreen instructions and click Next > until the operation is complete. Solution 5 Check to see if the USB interface of the main board is turned off Press and hold F2 to access the BIOS settings screen, press F9 to restore the BIOS settings, and then press F10 to save the changes. The status of USB Port Enable will then be by default. Solution 6 Troubleshoot other unknown faults 1. Right-click the USB device or removable hard drive partition and choose Properties. 2. Click the Tools tab and then click Check. 3. Select the two options and proceed to the next step. 4. After the results of the check are displayed, close the window. 5. During the check, the system automatically rectifies the partition errors that can be rectified. If the issue persists, you can try to format the USB device or removable hard drive. 1. Double-click the icon of the USB device or removable hard drive. A message will be displayed indicating that the the USB device or removable hard drive is not formatted. Confirm the message. 2. Retain the default settings and then proceed to the next step. 3. Wait until a dialog box is displayed, indicating that the formatting is complete.

none of these worked for me, steps 3 and 4 are pure hell b/c your (prob not everyone) its not recognized regardless of plugged in or not to usb just hear the plugin and unplug sounds over and over , so when your looking in the device manager it doesn't wanna let you click on what you want to very easy at all, i found a video that was very short to the point and after doing all these steps and more I was finally rid of it. not to say at all that this video doesn't work , and its awesome we have nice people such as this man to help us and walk us visually through

My USB 3.0 hub wasn't recognizing my Baseus Bluetooth adapter for some reason. All I did was unplug the hub and replug it in a different drive and now it works again.

If the device and the computer are working properly everything you said here should work. My computer is fine, the product I bought was defective.

I have this issue happening to my External USB Hub. When i restart my PC the USB hub works but after a few days of putting my PC to sleep mode at the end of the day and waking it up the next day the USB will need to be unplugged for about a minute and i have to turn off all the buttons that power each of the 7 USBs, then when i plug it back in it will work most of the time but not every time. I haven't been able to test what Device Manager says about the hub when windows says device not recognized because my mouse is plugged into the hub and i have to try over and over again until it works to do anything but in Device Manager even after i get it working under "Other Devices" there is a "Unknown Device" which is the USB hub in some way even though its working because it will disappear when unplugged. The Driver cannot be updated because a driver can't be found and under USB controllers the USB hub is listed as "USB Root Hub (USB 3.0) i believe and that can't be updated either but that's because windows says it already has the best driver. I feel like in my case my USB hub may be dying and nothing can be done, but to do this until it just stops working altogether or buy a new one but they are expensive and with COVID I'm hard pressed for cash but I''m unsure if that's the case and hoping its not thus I hope i can get help by leaving this comment. I followed all the applicable steps I could but its gonna take few days to see if they bear fruit.

Great list of things to try but none have worked. I have a 128G Lexar USB 2.0 jumpdrive. It was working fine and then suddenly stopped being recognized. I have tried more than three different computers and all of the methods you have described. It beeps when inserted. It also shows up on device manager but no matter what I have tried, File Exporer still does not recognize it. Any suggestions before I declare it dead? Thanks.

How was anyone able to properly restart after a complete USB uninstall/disable /remove? For many with USB connected Wireless or USB Mouse and/or a USB wireless or wired Keyboard Device(s) - you lose all USB control with everything you've got plugged in (there dead ducks). IF you are using a DESKTOP - Consider when ' Ctrl Alt Delete' doesn't work so reliably anymore. Just realize before - that you will have no wireless/wired USB keyboard or mouse input (unless their Bluetooth) to move the cursor in order to restart.

If you’re on Windows 10, and you’re noticing this error that the "USB device not recognized", don't worry this is the issue many of the windows users are experiencing like you. To solve this problem simply open the control panel by pressing on ‘Windows+S’ and type ‘control panel’ and click OK. Then select “Troubleshoot” on the Control Panel and click “Hardware and Sound”. IT"S the Bluetooth for me WOOHOO i fixed my USB port finaly. I did what this post says to do but i trouble shot the blue tooth device and it fixed my USB problem, try it. It all start when i plugged my new smartphone into the USB port, the port just stopped working so i went to youtube and watched 5 diffrent fix it videos and nothing worked, so i finally got here and watched this video and did what he said about troubleshooting but it didnt work so i went back to the trouble shooting section in control panel/hardware and device and trouble shot the bluetooth section and it said soemthing about the radio (was fixed) so i was like yeah this isnt gonna work until i plugged in my xbox 1 controller in the bad usb 3.0 port and low and behold it worked. I got my USB port back by doing the way i exsplained not the way this video shows you . Goodluck to you guys as i know how frustrating it is to have a USB port out,

At 3:00 you said, "Open Device Manager, double click on Universal Serial Bus controllers then right click on the USB drivers & click uninstall. Do this for ALL the drivers one by one. After that restart your PC then the USB drives are automatically reinstalled". But this is not true. I did what you said and uninstalled ALL my USB drivers under Universal Serial Bus controllers & my "USB Mass Storage Device" was NOT reinstalled. I'm very upset because I'm already having problems with my portable USB drive not opening up & now my "USB Mass Storage Device" that was already in my laptop has been permanently deleted. Can you answer how to reinstall my "USB Mass Storage Device" back to resolve this additional problem?

It worked for a second then it went right back to not working i disable the usb thing when i plug in my external hard drive it works but when i plug in my phone it work work only charges it.

Got a simpler solution for you guys 1. Restart your Pc. 2. Unplug whatever the USB device is 3. Plug your USB device into Your pc just before it boots up. Not saying this guys steps doesn't work I was just watching the video and was messing around with my keyboard and Restarted my pc then plugged it back in just before my pc loaded up and it's working fine.
