Can an affordable USB mic with multiple capsules give results good enough to make a record? Recording engineer and musician Russ Cottier tests a unit out - Put on your headphones to hear the results!
We selected Immersive Mode to access all of Connex’s mics separately and recorded them individually to test the USB mic to record drums in a rehearsal/live room. Russ Cottier played the drums and tried moving the mic around to see how well the affordable and simple mic can be to record a demo before taking the files back to his studio to add guitars and play with the audio.
We also recorded some spot mics on to a Sound Devices Mix Pre 10-II. Rather than just A/B USB mic vs spot mics, we wanted to hear how well the mic(s) work with an almost complete track to give a much more useful guide for budget recording.

Great Video, really liked the solo and then plus mixed idea. I know it is already a year old, but (not a critique) I'm sure it would be even better with some timestamps for the different mic positions.

Not sure which setting it was (Would need to go back & check) but I went from ho hum to wait... wtf, Sounds close to the Colins/Padgham gated snare ! Not bad for a $60 mic 😛

I´m more interested how you record your guitar , cause they sounds ridculous Fat, Amazing tone, and yes also the SSL Mic ;)

I had thoughtnabout doing thid this the reasonwhy looked up this video i am going buy it and try it live for setup for gigs i would love to ear how the emerse mode is

How about connection directly into a mixer? Better through the usb output and an adapter or through the minijack phone out? I was considering using this live ON a stand to catch the sound of three players, in front of it, with two Mexican vihuelas and a Mexican guitarron which are not amplified, to avoid using three different mics.

Good question. Both would be grammatically correct. Apostrophes are sometimes used to indicate contractions, as in this case. This is neither a possessive, nor misuse of apostrophe to indicate a plural. The apostrophe therefore standing for the missing letters “rophone”. This of course looks identical to a common misuse case of the apostrophe.
