A 30 minute video of how I set my Chinese built uSDX v2.7.1 up. Namely... How to tune easily band to band using just the encoder. TX Drive Noise Gate PS Bias Max & Min Referrnce Frequency Volume Attenuator. CW settings.
No Mark, you are not an expert. You are the only expert on the uSDX from what I've seen. Keep up the good work. By the way, I've noticed a pretty good spike in your subscriptions.
Thanks for the suggestions. Just received mine - I appreciate the guidance on both the setting levels and translating the setting definitions. Good work! De AE6FE
Congratulations, it's one of the most coherent videos I've seen about these Chinese QRP's, there are people who don't understand that for less than 100 U$S, you can't have a device with the features and quality of an Elecraft.😏 73
Got My uSDR today and set it up like You said I was on 40m Made 2 contacts the first time I keyed the Mic My Ant is a 65 foot long wire no tuner and got a 5-8 report one station was 50 miles and the other was 178 miles away this was at 7:30 pm EST works grate ! and I was running only 3.6 watts
Good QRP work. Remember, my settings are not "absolute." You can tweak yours. Just don't go overboard. 3.6W is good and a 3dB gain will be 7W which is close to destroying the output section. And 3dB is only worth 1/2 and S point. Just strive for good TX audio at 3-5W output and you'll enjoy this rig for ages...
Hi, Thanks for nice videos! A tip (don’t know if you have fiund out yet): Push the function knob in and then turn while pushing and you have instant volume control! Cheers from an SWL (soon to be livensed) in Sweden
A cautionary tale:- I used the push n turn volume control to change volume without going through the menu first, and it works BUT go past zero and the unit does a power cycle and resets to factory, loosing all settings I spent time changing.lol
I found that if you hold the main button on whilst connecting up the supply it restores the radio back to original. It fixed the USB/LSB problem I had.
17:05 Menu option 1.7 RIT - The “RIT” refers to “Receiver Incremental Tuning”. It’s a feature that allows you to slightly adjust the receive frequency without changing the transmit frequency, which can be useful for tuning in a station that’s slightly off frequency.
thank u for u intruction explications whis my antenna 20 watts just changed whis de cable modification on my antenna my connection perfect u setting thank u cool
Hej Mark, ist's a real pleasure to listen, watch and try to understand what u are telling! It's funny, I was OFF for 40 years and one week ago I tried to check if amateur radio still exists (hi)... Just few hours before I found your channel I ordered this uSDX TODAY from china, and now I can learn a lot from u to start with - when hopefully it arrives in day's week's...year's...lightyear's... And who knows if my yeasu FT-221R (2m) and my FT-101E somewhere in a box in the house still work when I try to plug them in again..? So, u are doing a great job I think, and for oldschool OM's like me it feels very very well! Hope to hear u soon - from uSDX to uSDX / OM to OM :-) 73, DF7RO (Michael)
No problem. For these videos and this radio in particular an MFJ Versa Tuner 2 manual ATU and a 90' (30m) longwire with 9:1 UNUN and single ground rod.
I'm over the Moon. Mine arrived today & with the help from your video, I have set it up & am amazed at how good it is for such a low price too. Thnx for the very Helpful Video mate. 73 de VK3VKe ⚡🙏⚡
No problem. Now you'll have to build a (tr)uSDX :-) I was down your way in 1993. I drove the whole No1 (Bruce?) Highway with a mate. 26000Km and 4 1/2 months. Good fun.
Ive got issues trying to send data... Got the CAT lead working but it wont come out of TX, got the KEY/MIC lead set up as the (tr)sdx suggests the HP is straight forward... Cant seem to find answers...
@@usernamemykel I can’t recommend a tuner per se, but only tell you what I use... MFJ Versa Tuner 2. It works well enough on all bands 160 - 10m. I also use a very old SEM with homebrew auto bridge. However, for QRP you could use a cheaper tuner or even a kit rated at 10W with a cheap SWR meter.
Hi Mark, my usdx is out of frequency more than 2 khz. Instead of the original ref. frequency :27000000, I had to enter 26996550. That's works for 20 and 40 meters but for 21 and 28 I should correct more. Does anyone have the same problem? Thanks
@@WadeAbout Hi, nothing special really, I've just adjusted the knob couterclockwise on 8.3 menu, until I heard the correct signal using another radio as monitor. Several report then confirmed me I was centered in frequency, also in tx.
There’s a frequency adjustment. I can’t remember the menu off the top of my head but look for one that says 27000000 That’s where you adjust the TX frequency.
i dont know if you could help me. i am getting very tired of this. my uSDX+ has missing menu option. i cannot find menu 3.1 VOX option. as i cannot enable VOX it render FT8/JS8-call impossible.
It will go down from 10m to 11m but here are no specific LPFs for that band. It puts out RF on 11m, but I’ve not tried to use that band or check for harmonics...
@@m0jcfhamradio75 Very cool not to worry on 3rd. or 5th harmonics as for me this would be SWL use. Keep the videos going I made many QRP as you can see on the lower page on My QRZ Page 73's N3WER
Mine is due to arrive Monday. I hope it is as good as yours. Mine was advertised as usdx/usdr. No antenna yet but end fed long wire is my best choice given my location. I am sure all of your videos about this rig will be of benefit to me when I get my paws on mine. At least I will have a clue. Kind regards and thanks for sharing.
I got the basic settings from the internet forums then "tweaked" them until I got good transmit an receive results. I've also built two (tr)uSDX and from there learned more about SDR receivers and class E transmitters.
@@mehr_wolf_weniger_adolf Have a look at the groups “(tr)uSDX” and “uSDX” on Facebook for a starting point. There you can ask questions or search for previous answers and get files.
Great video! I've been looking for a radio like yours, and I bought the same one. It's been a long time since I even thought about getting into these frequencies aside of 2 meters. Could you please give me the parts I need to put you an antenna system like you have. I'm not sure of what I need. I have no room for an outdoor antenna. Please do write a manual for this radio, I would surely appreciate it. I'm now a subscriber to your channel.
@@jeffkardosjr.3825 I’t’s not so much “what is safe” but what gives a clear modulation. This is Class E TX and very efficient. The difference between 4 & 8W is 1/2 an S point. Not worth revving the nuts off the finals for that.
@@rogerfethkenher3726 As mine doen’t have a battery, it’s hard to advise. But, if it were me, I’d replace with 3 lithium cells in series or just use an external supply.
