You are so right about beauty and Italy. From the moment my plane lands at the airport till I have to leave. Every cell in my brain is excited by sights, taste, smells, sounds. As soon as I land in the States I am planning on my next trip.

When I was once attending an art history class, the professor said that the Roman Catholics embraced detail, decorative detail, so their lives were "decorative and beautiful" and all of that embracing of detail was absent in more protestant or more severe or more minimalist faiths. Forgive me : I am not a religious scholar. The professor said that the Italian architecture, interiors, artwork therefore embraced beauty, detail and decorations because this was encouraged, not prohibited. The life was to be lived fully, not to suffer in minimalism. Hope I didn't butcher the explanation too much!

3:30 minutes in and I am enthralled. I have worn my way through 3 copies of Under The Tuscan Sun. Have read the sequels and enjoyed them but nothing has stirred my heart like the word pictures of that first book. What you are saying is so important. Even in the midst of this stress we are all experiencing we can lighten it in small ways if we put even a crumb of effort into it. I have enjoyed your series so much. Though I must admit, I am late to the ball. Cant wait to see the Frances Mayes episode. There is a company called Steel Roots that makes wall decor from sheets of silver steel, copper or black...steel? Anyway, they have a cutout of a beautiful tree with celtic looking roots. You can have a monogram of a name cut into it. I chose this tree in copper and I am having a phrase Ms. Mayes explained cut instead. It is from the first book. Festina Tarde. Festina Tarde....she says it means "To make haste, slowly.' Love, love, love the mindset. Appreciate your show so much. Please, excuse my long windedness. I dream too.
