Using blind contour drawing can help you improve your hand-eye coordination. You will also find out that you are capable of copying accurately whatever difficult shapes or lines that you see. And it's fun.
Tips:
As much as possible, draw without lifting your pen.
Focus on your subject, and less on what's on your paper.
Imagine the pen tip going along the edges of your subject.

Hi tech, I am 76 years. Old and am in the pit of a major block. I was painting watercolour and blind contour drawing with confidence and success 40 years ago, however my husband and I bought a farm and, of course there was no time for art. I now have everything I need to resume painting including time but when I sit down I find it difficult to recapture that old feeling of absolute confidence. I have started blind contour drawing Of people in the local shopping mall and will pursue that to get my hand in and am enjoying it. I know the only person who can clear this block is me.

This one of the very first exercise I did when I started to draw in the summer of 2022 , figured if I could do it I could do anything. Now six month later I’m at the stage where I can draw a face of my friend and it pretty accurate. I sketch with my non dominant hand , eyes close , my left foot as I figures it free me up. Thanks for the tip.

Wow, your blind contour drawing is so much better than mine. I have an idea this will help my hand shakiness if I practice more though.

+lalaithan LOL. Blind contour is very useful when you're drawing challenging lines, angles or foreshortened subjects.

I love you man. You are so cool. I am left handed by the way, don't now if this is irrelevant or not, and became an architect many moons ago. Sometimes I wonder,if I should have become an illustrator, instead. Thanks for sharing your time, and good nature.

My first one while drawing alot with this looks a domino falling over (it was supposed to be my fist) the second one with relaxed hand side view looks like a sad deformed rabbit head looking down, this should help tho.

Hey nice Video. I started drawing just a month ago and have a hard time to accept drawing exercises like this one. But i trust your experience and gonna incorporate this into my routine. If you would do a couple of exercises, which would you recommend? Which helped you the most?
@teohyc
@teohyc 7 лет назад
+ReaperPlayzLeague Contour drawing is helpful. The other helpful exercise is to draw with black, gray and white to practise tonal values and negative shape drawing.

Do you have any tips on sketching cars?
@teohyc
@teohyc 8 лет назад
+Baboucarr Fox You can use contour drawing too. Pay attention to the proportion of each part, and observe close where each line meet in relation to the whole drawing. You can to constantly check the proportion. Another tip is to draw slowly.

+Teoh Yi Chie can blind contour be used to help someone who can't draw
@teohyc
@teohyc 8 лет назад
+Crystal Starfire It is one of the techniques to improve your drawing, but it's not the main technique for teaching people to draw. The main technique is drawing with proportion in mind, where one point/line with respect to other elements.

can we take off the pencil from the paper? :/ i knew it as we cant but now im confused xs
@teohyc
@teohyc 7 лет назад
Yeah sure. There are no strict rules. You can create a drawing with ONE continuous line, or you can create the drawing with several. Or you can create a collage of different subjects, each drawn with one line. Try as many combinations as possible. \ (•◡•) /
