I'm 76ers old and have been playing since I was 12. Learned every blues lick you can imagine because I lived in Texas. So the last couple years I started messing around with double stops and more country picking. Made my blues playing much better. And I werenot bad
Limiting your position does, in fact, induce or force you to get better at phrasing. This is valuable advice and should be applied by any player. I've been playing for 36 years and I intentionally do this for writing (phrasing) purposes. Then I may restructure it later after getting my phrases all created and put together.
Can't tell you how much I appreciate how you break this down, as well as explain the why and where for. That sure makes it doable. In no time I'm getting results. And the success and fun are the reward.
You play this really well. The note choices might be simple for beginners, but to get the bending, vibrato, dynamics, string muting and raking, and the timing just right, takes years. It's not just the notes, it's how you play them! Thanks. Subbed & liked.
Nice idea/concept for a video but naming the root note of the lick and its exact fret and string position combined with a mention of the pentatonic shape would be very useful.
And btw I am not really a beginner...i have been playing for few years mainly acoustic ( nice Larriveè) and classical and boss's nice style.but I find your lessons very well structured and you are really a good teacher and player....there is always new thing to learn....that is why we love guitars!
Clear explanation. Perfect match between notes choice and chords playing in the background with respect to magical BB box. Thanks bro, great tone too. A lesson to be watched over and over. 🖖🏻🎸
That looks like the BB King style of playing those notes at that section of the guitar neck, the BB King box, isn't it? Yes, this is a nice way of teaching BB King blues notes in that box. Now I will practice and master playing those notes and bending in that BB King box. It is nice that I found your video on these notes.
Instead of just telling what fret and string, there was a wandering off into explanations of major 3rds and other, more complex vernacular. I really appreciate the time that was put in to making the video. I would say, just tell the string and fret, how long to hold the note, and how much bend to put on the note. This coming from a beginner standpoint. Very nice playing BTW. Thank you.
You need to know the five positions of the minor pentatonic blues scale, the notes in that key, the notes on the neck and how to solo over the chord changes to really understand this lesson. i've been learning ten years and am only just getting it!! I Know what to do but haven't got time to practise 5 hours a day 5 days a week as I'm 15 years way from retiring!! lol!!
Very gd but could you be more Pacific with the route note and individual notes you are playing with the phrasing of some of the notes it's difficult to follow
I've been trying to ask you ( sounds off topic) did you change pups again on your 70s strat? I love that guitar, but sounds like you are using noiseless or toneless pups on it..You had put 69s on it, please let me know. Great vid here too..Excellent lesson for my level of playing.. Thank you Davidi
The area between the 9th and 13th fret basically. This is not limited to any scale so all notes on any string within the 9th and 13th fret are all good.
Wouldn't this be the 4 note solo "house"? you start the flatted 7th note(G) with your index finger and the B.B. box would be the the next house where you play the root(A) on the second string?
If you are asking where can this lesson be found on the website then it is here. www.learningguitarnow.com/video-podcast/beginner-slow-blues-solo-in-one-position/
I'm a little confused when you call this blues lick an A key. Isn't this a D major riff. If this was dorian, in this position sure A minor, but how is this A minor?
How do i get an amp that sounds like that hahaha. I have a Vox I bought brand new for about 150 Aud. Awesome with distortion but the clean sound is boring as bat shit!!! im a newbie btw
Absolutely hate teachers like this that talk in "tab" instead of just saying the note names. Saying the note names increases your musical vocabulary just naming the fret numbers is lazy and does not increase understanding of the musical theory.
