June is my favorite month to target walleyes. They are typically shallow, aggressive, and very predictable. Here are my top 3 locations as well as my top 3 presentations for walleyes in early spring.

Thank you for this. I was out on a lake today and got nothing. I was out too deep. I had a feeling they were up in the weeds more shallow. This confirmed it.

Great tips!! Recently hooked into a 22 incher off of a brand new weedline growing in a main river channel. It was only about 5 feet deep, but out of a river section that averages only 3-4 feet in the wet months. They absolutely hold to them in the early morning hours, probably because the dissolved oxygen in the river bottoms out then (and peaks around 5-6 pm when they start to roam).

Any river tips? I live off of a northern tributary that flows into superior. The river is apparently really good for walleye but I have yet to pull one out of it. Just pike, bass, salmon in the fall and the odd rainbow. No clue what I'm doing wrong, I go out to target walleye and I get skunked every time unless I switch up to fish another species or am on a smaller in land lake, but most lakes are an hour plus drive and the river is just a few blocks away lol I can also get out on superior but I really have no idea what I'm doing out there when it comes to finding fish

Interesting. I wish I knew what river it was because they are all a little different. I’ll tell you how I catch 90% of my small river walleyes though: a split shot rig with a whole nightcrawler drifted through holes. Not always the deepest part of the hole either. They like some current and they will usually be on the main current seam.

@@calebwistad thanks, it's the kaministaqua river. I haven't done a worm rig yet, been sacrificing minnows and jigging/ splitshotting plastics. Was thinking of pulling out the spinners since I saw a nice 30+ rainbow jump tonight when I was on the bank about 50ft out in a hole that is about 20ft deep. Man I wish there was more time to fish, you have the life lol I took a week off last year during the salmon runs up here and it was ridiculous lol I was tired of fishing each day by 10am, if I only caught 6-7 it was a slow morning last fall

Were having a really tough time this year on lake Champlain there so much bait for them too feed on water temp was 66 today i have tried everything any suggestions? Usually we never have a problem catching them but this year is different.

We’ve got a couple lakes that are high population Cisco lakes. We have good luck trolling stickbaits only about 10’ down over 60’ to 100’ of water.

Any thoughts about mayfly hatch? Maybe that's why they're up feeding shallow at night.
@jimordway9287
@jimordway9287 Месяц назад
Mayflies hatch in mud which is generally deeper

I think it has more to do with water temps than food. They can raise their metabolism and digest food faster in the shallower warmer water. The only reason they aren’t there during the day is because they don’t like the bright sunlight and exposure to predators.

Hmmm, sounds like a lot of bait. Might want to try snap jigging a plastic or a glide bait. Try to get a reaction bite.

@calebwistad
@calebwistad Месяц назад
Definitely try trolling. Weeds keep us from trolling shallow here in a lot of places but if you don’t have them it would be fairly easy to do.

Well, officially spring ends on June 22nd…so it’s more spring than summer. Technically. Not sure if that matters or not.
