Question to Shawna and community: how do you think about combining a no buy w planned purchases/replacements? Is that even a no buy.. Did it work well for you ? I'd love to do a successful no buy f make up & skincare this year. Main reasons are using up /reducing my stash, spending less but also get away from the rush and hassle of social media beauty. I will run out of staple products this year and I always stock up on a year supply during the Nov sales. It's considerate savings so I definitely don't wanna miss that.. But that's not really a no buy...doing a low buy worries me though as it leaves the door open for purchases. The most challenging time for me is Xmas /Lunar New Year releases. I always end picking something up especially on sales and it can get out of hand. I don't regret the purchases quality or performance wise but I'd like to reign it in and really reduce what I pick up. I was thinking to do a challenge w those purchases and see if/how many pans I could hit or how much use I can get on a lip product. Also set basic usage goals per item. That way I should get a much better opinion which purchases I enjoyed most/what was redundant/what I use more often etc And maybe I can do a points bank specifically for Xmas releases. So that for every pan hit I can buy a pan. Glosses/balms need to be fully used up to buy another. Lipsticks 50% considering they last longer than a year. I could then use those points to purchase new items. So basically I would not buy any make up or skincare all year outside staple replacements which I do have a defined list of and a points system based on panning for specifically Xmas/Lunar New Year purchases.

In my opinion replacing things that you run out of is a no buy. If you've created a cycle where you replace those essential items during the November sales I can understand why it might not feel like you're completing a no buy because there's a lot coming in at once. The way this wouldn't be a no buy in my books is if you also do for fun shopping at that time or those replacement purchases trigger a shopping spiral. Even if you do for fun purchases in Nov this can still be right for you and your life and budget no matter what it's labeled. If trying out longer term nobuys is something of interest to you, you could try one a quarter or one every 4 months or something like that. I've been thinking of "running" one once a quarter on the channel (more on that in next week's video) to provide a community for people to do them any time in a year. This could be a solid option and if you do decide to do 4 you'll have spent about a third of the year (approx 120 days) on a no buy

You can call it a replacement only low buy if that sits better with you! As long as you set clear cut rules that all you're allowed to buy are those replacements for key products as they go on sale it should not seem like there's a door open for slipping in some more frivolous purchase. Oh and a loose idea maybe you can favourite the products you are planning on replacing on your sephora or ulta account (or wherever you shop) and then when the time comes only peek into the favourites list and shop from there not allowing yourself to browse the rest of the sale for random items.

I'm doing no spend. I've got a lot from your videos. I dont have credit cards. Or I think its not emotional spending that I do. I did a Swedish death cleaning last year and I don't want to buy anything to bring in clutter.
