הי יואב, תודה רבה על הסרטון הברור והמפורט. זה בדיוק מה שחיפשתי. יצא לי לבנות ולשפץ כמה גיטרות בשנים האחרונות ובכל בניה אני מנסה להעלות קצת את הרף. הפרויקט הבא הוא להכין גוף של גיטרה בס בעצמי, כולל הפיקאפים! אני קצת חושש מלחתוך בעצמי את המגרעת לצוואר אבל בעצתך, אני אעבוד לאט לאט ולא אחתוך עמוק בכל פעם. תודה רבה, ערוץ מעולה!

Awesome video, thanks for the information! I have one question, can a plunge router substitute a drill press for doing bridge studs, pivots cavities, and doing string-through holes for the ferrules?

Thanks, Lucas, 🙏. In theory you could use a plunge router for drilling holes but it is not recommended for a few reasons. Router bits, unlike drills, are designed to remove material mostly from the blade which is on the side. The downward motion is not the 'forte' of the blade. A second reason is clearing the wood chips. Again, most router blades throw the chips sideways and will not clear away the chips properly. There are blades that have upward spirals (mostly used at CNCs)The third reason is the speed. Routers are usually much faster than drill and combined with the chips that are not clearing properly may burn the wood, leave black marks or even smoke. There are small and affordable plunge attachments for a hand drill, which will do a better and safer job. There are also various jigs you can build. A sharp drill bit will be a much better and safer bet than a router bit, and you know I am fond of router bits 😉

To route a shallow pickup cavity if about 3/4 of an inch, which bit would you recommend? Thanks for your great video s!

The obvious answer would be a 3/4" bit, and it could work just fine. With a smaller router you may want to do it in two passes with a 3/8" bit or a 1/2" (with a bit of overlap). A thicker template and extra bearing will also give you more flexibility to play with the depth. Thanks for your great tips! I really like your channel. I have a little question: What bearing bit you think it can help with a neck pocket of a telecaster? I haven't bought it yet but I already have my template, I'm just afraid about the inner corners of the neck pocket, which bearing bit size do you think can get that deep considering the inner angles? Thanks!!

Thanks. The inner corner of the neck pocket on a Tele is actually 1/4" or even 3/16". If you can find a 1/4" flush trim bit that actually has the bearing at the shaft side, that would be the best solution. I would only use it for the final cleanup, still with the template. Another choice is a straight carbide bit (without the bearing) but using a thicker template and having it stick out a bit more so that the part without the blade acts as a stopper. This could leave burn marks in the corners. The last is the manual way. Just sand or file the corner (after routing with 1/2") and finish it with sandpaper wrapped on a small dowel or a1/4" drill bit.

I have a large 30-year-old Makita and a cheap Chinese trimmer router. It's a good combination for both bigger jobs where I mount the large router to the table, and for more delicate ones with the trimmer. If I had to get just one with guitar making in mind, I would get a midsize router with a plunge feature (very handy for cavities). As far as the make, you can go with the more reputable ones, such as Makita or Bosch. DeWalt AND Milwaukee, are also great and usually better priced. It really depends on the deals or shipment options in your area. I f I had to order on now I would get this some or similar:amzn.to/33IZxKx. You can get cheaper ones but the cheaper you go' the more of a gamble it is. They sometimes surprise for the better, but often they fail.

I am not exactly sure what type of stripes you refer to, but if you want to rout them in there are a few choices. If you Plan to make make a template for them, you will need to use a very short (assuming you don't intend to go too deep) flush-trim bit. If you are going to draw them and then 'free-hand' rout them you can use any bit, and the profile is what you need to consider: do you want it to be round at the bottom or with a sharp corner? You can manually sand and round the top edge of the routed parts, but the inside corners will be determined by the blade profile. Do some tests on some scrap pieces, and start with very shallow passes, it's easier on the blade and enables much better control. I'd love to see how itt turns out. Good Luck 👍👍

הי אידוב. plunge router יכול לעשות כל מה שראוטר רגיל עושה רק שיש לו את האופציה להכנס אנכית בנוחות, עם כיוון של העומק. הם בדרך כלל יותר יקרים וגדולים. אם אתה יכול, עדיף, בעיקר בעבודה על פיקאפים או כל דבר שלא בקצה. הראוטר הגדול שלי בן 30 בערך ואז עוד בכלל לא עשו כאלה וגם לקטן אין את האופציה. אם הייתי קונה חדש היום, בעיקר לבניית גיטרות. הייתי משקיע ב plunge router
