When you said "Pine caster", I smiled big time :). I had some boards laying around and figured I'd mess those up instead of some crazy exotic wood on the first few guitars. I love exotic woods, but not being afraid of messing up and just going ham for $20 is also fun. I've found from just a few hours of messing around, you learn a lot from trying to make the wood straight (that's what she said). God Bless You Brother, thank you for the Tips, and documentary!

Thanks man! I downloaded your Strat plans emailed them to myself took them to a packing ,shipping and printing store with a large enough printer, forwarded them the plans and have 3 sets front and back for $18. Much easier than tracing my guitar on a big piece of paper and finagling the measurements for the cavities on my own. Time to make the templates already have a neck glued up!

It is fine if you just want something do or keep you busy , but I cannot buy wood and route a body, when I can buy the body for less than $30 shipped to my door, and this is a mahogany body

Is it structurally better to use 2+ blocks of wood and gluing them together to form the base of the body as opposed to using just one piece? If say I had a block of wood that met all the dimensions of the strat, would it be fine to just cut out and form the body or would it be better to cut the wood in half then glue?

Strictly structurally speaking the more pieces you glue together, the more stable that piece will be compared to one piece of the same timber. Each part deforms in a different way, and when glued together, the opposing forces will give better stability. This also has to do with how dry the pice is, to begin with. The best result (and that's what most guitar manufacturers do), both visually and structurally, is to cut two pieces from the same slab of wood and 'book-match' it. This can be done by cutting in half, if it is thick enough, or by flipping one part, to get the grain running in the opposite way. This will give opposing forces to the body and will minimize deformations. Having said that, a properly dried one-piece body should be stable and may look even better, in my opinion.
