Dude, this is the best sounding Katana tone I’ve heard so far. Also, thank you for not just shredding like crazy the whole time. It’s so hard to tell what something is gonna sound like when there are a bunch of notes coming at you.
My live pedalboard consists of a bunch of boosters and a wah. I gig with my Katana's every weekend and they handle my board into the crunch channel just like any great valve amp....love em...👍
Very helpful video. I just got a Katana 100 Mk2 head and 212 cabinet. I have the same foot switch but I'm still trying to figure it out. This video helped a bunch with that.
The Drop pedal is a poly pitch shifter.. It's like tuning the guitar to another tuning without having to touch your keys. It does take a little sparkle off of your tone, hadn't noticed it taking away any of my sustain.. Really handy in a cover band..
Im literally buying a Katana mkII today with the foot controller. I also have a G3n and was talking to a guy on AMS wondering if it was overkill or even necesaary (im a newb). Of course he gave me the typical "its all about your preference" answer. This video helped a lot! Thx!
I use the Katana crunch channel all the time on all channels. Then I have different effects set on each channel (delay/chorus/trem etc). Then my board has all the boosters I need plus tuner and wah. Katana's handle pedals just like a amp with "valves"...

Got me a 100wKatana head, just ordered the switch pedal and buying a few pedals like procoRat and TS9, because I am not so happy with the sounds from the presets. I also have a ZoomG5n, that I will be using it for effects - I was wondering how were you connecting your Zoom with the Amp? Thanks
Excellente',thanks! Our mkII handles pedal's waaay better than our mki,it's plain weird. A BOSS GT-1 multiFX pedal sounds good direct into the fx loop INPUT,but only via the headphone out. Salute!
Actually, no... The Drop is polyphonic,. If you play chords with a pitch transposer, you get a ton of artifacting and pitch wobbling... with the Drop (or Pitchfork from Eharmonix) it will sound almost like a downtuned guitar...
Hi and thanks for the video .. keen to buy a Drop pedal but have been told the katana “should” have an octave setting to detune the guitar. Is this the pitch transposed you mentioned?

Hi great video thanks. I am looking for a 50W (or thereabouts, or more) guitar amp that I can use during band practice, in tandem with my multifx pedal. Is this the one you would recommend or would it be something else? Thanks!
I would definitely recommend the Kat 50 EX or the 100 .. Then you have an effects loop! The Katana has been my favorite of all the amps I've owned. It can seemingly do anything!!
I'm getting ready to buy the digitech drop pedal. Do you have it plugged into the input of the katana? It also looks like it's at the end of your chain.
I always put it first in line guitar.. drop pedal then everything else..I think I may have gone wah first on this board.. then right into the drop.. then OD pedals then amp..
I had to get to a patch where the effects loop was engaged, as the zoom is in the effects loop of the Katana. When the tuner is in the effects loop, you also need to use a clean rig in front of the loop as well..
Great video. I am trying to run my boss gt1 through the effects loop on my katana mkii 100 and still want to use the GAFC switch. Could you tell me how to get these to work together? My foot switch doesn’t work with the processor in the loop…. Any tips would be appreciated

I have my board set up with a terminal box so I can route my drive and wah in front of the amp and my delay and reverb in the loop. When I played live a lot I put a boost in the loop as well to boost my solos without changing the gain structure...
How wide is your pedalboard? I was looking at a Pedaltrain Nano+ (18" wide), but I'm not entirely sure if the footswitch will fit along with my MXR noise clamp and Boss TU-3. I also don't want to get one that's too bulky because I don't plan on buying any more pedals.
Thanks for the video Hubie, I note that you say you use the Zoom for reverb, I wonder if you have the same issues ascI and many others are experiencing with the Katana's onboard reverb? Frank it up on any of the three settings and it are an annoying squeal into the mix, useless!! Also adjusting the delay level seems to alter tone and timing as well as the number of repeats, I have the 100watt head and use an old Zoom GFX8, then a triple delay into the input using the clean channel with a Neunaber Seraphim in the effects loop. Now that works a treat and gives me a huge variety of tones!!
I haven't had any problem with the internal effects. In all fairness I don't use a lot of them, but when I have they have been fine. My rhythm tone rarely has any effects on it so I just tend to use effect for clean or solo channels. I love the Tape Delay in that zoom.. The gritty gain is a sweet feature!

Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.. The level you want to use will vary pretty wildly (I start around 120 on the return level) depending on how much mid range you have in your tone.. More mid range = less boost. You'll probably want to hook it up to the tone studio and adjust it at volume, keeping in mind that you do want to be on top of the mix for your solo, so it may sound like a bit of a crazy jump when the rest of the band isn't behind you. If your band is cool with it, adjust it at rehearsal. That is probably your best bet.
Would putting a patch cable between the send and return work if you wanted to set the effects loop as a volume boost without any other pedals in the loop? Or is there an internal way to set a boost only from within the amp/software
Sorry for the delayed response! If you haven't already found a solution, the wah is usually at the front of the signal chain, so I would go straight from the guitar into the wah from there to the input of the amp, or any other drive or modulation effects you wish to put in front of the amp. if you wanted to use the GAFC to turn the wah on and off you could put it in the effects loop and program the GAFC to turn the loop on and off, but the wah after the preamp may not give you the result you desire...
Hi. Is it possible to connect a big muff Pedal for distortion and then connect zoom processor (g5n) for the remaining fx like chorus flanger delay, reverb ? Can both run together giving a great sound output ?
absolutely! put the fuzz in front of the effects processor then the fx into the amp, or guitar to fuzz to the front of the amp, then the fx in the loop... just try to keep the fuzz as the first thing you plug into..
Thanks for the info. I have a question but I just noticed this video is over a year old so you might not see it. Oh well, I’ll ask anyway. 😊 I was wondering if your zoom pedal picks up the guitar sound ok for tuning? I have a zoom G1xon and I plug that into the effects loop on my katana but it tends to not work as well tuning as it Does plugging into the front of the amp. Still works but not as good. Why is that?
Tuners are usually best in front of gain or even as the first pedal.. That said I did find I could make it work if I used as clean of a tone as possible when tuning..

If I want to connect external wah, compression, overdrive pedals before the amp and use the modulation, delay and reverb built in to the Katana, can I do that? How would I connect those? I guess I'm asking if I wanted to use a combination of my pedals along with built in effects of the katana either pre amp or post can that be done? If I connect external pedals in the pre amp or post stage , what will the footswitch control? Thanks

hey dude. as a katana owner, i can confirm to you that you need a boss exp pedal for the built in expression effects. so no u cant use any expression pedal. personally i use a crybaby for wah for simplicity.

@@robertclarkguitar Should work fine.. If you want to use the processor's preamp, plug it straight into the fx return, or if the processor has an fx loop you can use the 4 cable method..
@@hubieh3374 Ah well that's the issue I think with the Vox vt20x...Only has one input for guitar. Main. No other returns or send. Has headphone and aux that's it sadly. Perhaps I'm just too much of a newbie. I'm an old drummer that started digging guitar alot more than ever.
@@robertclarkguitar Well I guess then you just have to know what you plan to use the processor for.. f you want to use it more fore modulation (chorus/flange/phase) delay/reverb, or Drive and wah effects.. if more for mod and reverb/delay, then put the processor in the loop. If you want to use Dive, wah, and modulation, them put it between the guitar and amp...
All but the drop are powered by a filter isolated power supply... Cheap and quiet.. (results may vary).. mine is Neweer brand, but there are a bunch of them that all look the same... Sold as isolated, but they are not truly isolated.. Mine is quiet and reliable though...
It has since been sold, however as it was hooked up in the loop, it was only providing delay and reverb for my solo channel.. In that function the Zoom was a pretty decent option..
I think the POD has a lot more custom features and the ability to run it in 4 cable mode, but the Zoom sounds great, and fits on the board WAY better!! :) As a stand alone unit there is no competition, the POD is way better, but for my purposes the zoom works perfectly!!
Hubie H I sold my pod for the same price i bought it for to afford the katana 212. I might pick one up again when I have more money to use with the katana. If the zoom g5n had an fx loop I'd grab that instead. I use revalver 4 though my studio monitors which i prefer over the pod direct.
One of the things that impresses me about the Katana, is the amount of headroom. The interaction with pedals might not be as complex as with some tube amps, but the way it holds up under large amounts of boost is still very impressive. Most useful SS amp I’ve played in decades...
Thanks for posting. When I gig my Katana, I set up 4 amp channels (clean, crunch, brown and lead - no internal fx. Pedalboard has compressor, B9 and Timmy overdrive in front and corona chorus, carbon copy delay, topanga reverb, archer boost and 25k volume pedal in loop. Great gigging rig, works like a tube amp and easy on the old back
