I filmed this back in March of 2017, and as of writing this description, August 28, 2017, the machine a working awesome. Super cold soda cans. Back story Got this Soda Machine for fathers day, it needed to have its refrigerant recharged. I read an article years ago about Air Dusters being a form of refrigerant that worked better that R-134a and R-12. Don't believe me. Take a can of Air Duster and shake the can a few times, what happened to the can, it got really cold.. Hold the can upside down and pull the trigger, you get instant cold air, freezing cold air.

Computer duster also works as a replacement for r410a I used it in a dehumidifier it worked well

Thank you. I just found a soda machine for only 100 bucks and the guy thinks that there is no way of refrigerating it what so ever. Now I know lol. Now I can beat them to the punch

There's also a refrigerant from a company named "EnviroSafe". Their refrigerant is compatible with R12 and R134a, and it worked wonderful for a retrofit that I did on an old car years ago. That refrigerant can keep your system working even when it's leaking and you have a capacity left at around 30%. Never tried this Duoflurethane stuff because the price of it vs the "Envirosafe" can ar mostly the same. I might try it sometime. Fantastic it worked for you.

Please show me the kind of hose to buy, my guy says I just need a little bit, so would I need a vacuum pump? He thought he needed r12 and the hose links.

You need a piercing tap or a soldering tap and a gauge set with 1/4" ends that basically would fit on a quarter inch male flare fitting basically all the gauge sets are the same with 1/4 ends I think it's worth buying the shut off ball valves to put at the end of your hoses. when you're doing automotive they are like an air Chucks they make adapters to go from your quarter inch hose and to the 134 Chuck for automotive which you will not need unless you're working on a car. And yes you will need a vacuum pump or you can build one out of an old refrigerator compressor I suppose. watch lots of RU-vid videos and learn how to in the stuff safely anytime you're dealing with refrigeration there are some safety factors unless you have years under your belt in refrigeration you should wear gloves and face/eye protection you can get a nasty burn real quick even if you know what you're doing.and I'm not telling you this to deter you from doing it just use caution and watch lots of videos so that you know what you're doing 😉 there was a guy that did a video I think it was called simplified refrigerator recharge or maybe he used the word easy anyway he didn't make it complicated he made it easy for everybody to understand, it wouldn't hurt to watch a few HVAC videos a big air conditioning unit works on basically the same principles the main difference is a refrigerator or pop cooler uses what is called a capillary design instead of a piston or orifice most modern refrigeration units use a TXV or a thermal expansion valve other than that they have the same basic fundamentals a compressor expansion of gas condenser and evaporator. you will find the stuff you need on eBay or Amazon. Keep in mind that the gauges are different 4 different gas however they still read PSI and vacuum you can find a chart online to find out what your subcooling will read at what pressure for any gas then you simply use a thermometer and do the math however for what you're doing you're probably not going to get that technical to make sure your system is running at maximum efficiency but you could like I said you can learn all that by watching some HVAC videos and I understand it will be confusing at first but after you watch a dozen or so things will start to come together 😊 and before you know it you will understand refrigeration probably better than some that run from door to door with a van doing it for a living some people learn what they need to get through the school and that is all I know a lot of HVAC video guys are giving you their trade secretsand tips they have learned along their career on these RU-vid videos making this day and age easy for someone to learn the basics and then get School certified in the field.

hello i have an old coke machine when i got it it has no gas in it i don’t know how long its been seating do i need to do somethingto it or just add gas thanks
@just_a_guy_doing
@just_a_guy_doing 4 года назад
First you need to put the system under vacuum and then charge the system. Without the vacuum the refrigerant has no where to go, due to atmospheric air occupying the refrigerant system already
@obet191
@obet191 4 года назад
Thanks I did the vacuum I have a pump and I did put the van air and is working fine I couldn’t see the 20 you said you had if it was in psi or 134 or 410 in the gage I put abut 20 psi and the after about an hour it staid at 15 psi it’s holding there for about 20 hrs and is making the sodas cold how long did yours last or is it still going

I'm a newbie to all of this, what is the purpose of the vacuum pump in step 1? Great video, btw! exactly what I was looking for.
@just_a_guy_doing

Vacuum pump removes all the air and moisture from the system. This way the refrigerant can do its job. Without the vacuum, the refrigerant quantity isn't enough and won't work well, or might not work at all.
@melindatripp8854
@melindatripp8854 3 года назад
@@just_a_guy_doing chad, if it already has r12, can you add the air duster to it? Or , do you have to bleed the system first.
@johnsonlong1272
@johnsonlong1272 3 года назад
@@melindatripp8854 you need to evacuate whatever other gas is in it out so the system is empty then pause vacuum on it with a vacuum pump drawing it down to low of a vacuum as you can get in your elevation this normally means running a vacuum pump and pulling a vacuum for an hour or more to make sure there is no moisture in the system. Then you would recharge it watch some other RU-vid videos there are lots of them out there to get the basic concept it doesn't matter what refrigerant gas they're using in the video there is still learning to be had.

Charging liquid refrigerant straight into a cold compressor is a no -no. I'm surprised the compressor still pumps.
@just_a_guy_doing
@just_a_guy_doing 4 года назад
Umm. The compressor wasn't cold, there was no refrigerant in the system, guess you didn't watch the whole video.

HVAC techs charge liquid refrigerant time central air conditioner suction line. It evaporates immediately after it enters the service valve. By the time it enters the compressor case, it’s already a gas not a liquid. HVAC techs have to charge liquid refrigerant into air conditioners that use R410a freon because it’s a blend of different freons.
