This watchmaking vlog episode 27 I show off my new machine that I bought. The Optimum 3008G Lathe. This lathe will enable me to turn stainless steel watch cases for my watch that I am building. It was a real pain to get this machine into my tiny workshop, but we managed to do it.
I start to remake the balance bridge for my watch, and use a mysterious watchmaker tool known as the uprighting tool. This allows me to locate the holes that I need to make a lot quicker than setting up in the lathe with the faceplate and centring the watch with the centring scope.
This was the efforts of one night I had available in the workshop. I should progress faster later this week and have the balance bridge completed by the end of the month.
Never Give Up!
Thanks for watching.
Dean DK

Just an idea but would you be interested in creating a patreon? We know that these things are expensive and would like to see you make new and more consistent content. Plus you could give patreoners extra things. Just an idea

Hi Tucker, really appreciate your idea. I have thought about on and off all the time. At this stage I’m at a no to pursuing Patreon. I’m trying my best to upload consistently, I think I’m getting better. I would want to be consistent for a while before committing to something that like that. Cheers 👍🏼

Thanks for watching and commenting John. Really appreciate it! Yeah most things are liquid in my workshop, I don’t want those things to hold me back. 😁 goodluck 👍🏼

Congrats on your new lathe! First thing I did was upgrade to a quick change tool post set. Check them out. Saves a lot of time setting tool heights and swapping bits ; )

Thanks man 😁 haha oh for sure! I actually bought one already, waiting for some tooling to actually fit properly as I need to turn up the post for the toolpost to fit my lathe 😁👍🏼

I have always noticed you have some really nice equipment. Where do you find stuff, just on the internet? How do you know what you want? Did you apprentice with anyone also let me know if you ever want to sell anything.
@DeanDK

I buy my used watchmaker tools pretty much exclusively from eBay at the moment. I usually think of me making watches, and the tools that I would use, when the tools pop up I jump on them. I haven’t apprenticed with anyone mostly self taught. Although many people have helped along the way. Thanks for watching and commenting 😁👍🏼

Hi Dean, awesome content, i love all your videos, especially how well you integrate music with them and your titles etc. I just got myself and optimum 2004v a couple of weeks ago and love it. If you ever feel tolerances aren't good enough, maybe look up ThisOldTony or Stefan Gotteswinder here on youtube if you haven't seen them already, Stefan especially has a lot of videos on improving the accuracy of tooling and often gets his runouts etc down to a couple of microns. Thanks so much for all your hard work, as someone in Australia who thought it would be impossible for me to ever get into watchmaking, seeing your videos gives me hope that I too could pursue it even with no formal watchmaker schools here. Thanks so much mate, have a great day, and hope the family is well! Cheers, Sam

What’s the purpose of the rodico on the palm rest of the uprighting tool also by the way known as a outil a planter.
@DeanDK
@DeanDK 5 лет назад
Nice observation. These are double ended pointers, and the point sticks out a little bit, which is a bit uncomfortable to use, so I put the rodico there 😂 👍🏼😁 thanks for watching and commenting

Like the actual gear cutting machine? Or the cutter? You can cut gears on the lathe. Or have a dedicated machine
