Here's a basic set up instructional followed by a quick jam to illustrate the way this functions. I still consider this "laptop free" because the iPad is so portable and feels more like hardware in this configuration.

Nice Review ! i should i'cve seen this one before purshasing, xynthetisr, or fugue machine. in term of workflow, its is much more easy to change the patterns and bring back to them . Thanks !

Fantastic. I have Auxy and it's really fun. I must get a midi interface for iOS and try this. Been looking at hardware sequencers for my outboard gear but the iPad may just do it

Thank you , great ideas which I will use , the rubber sounds kinky ! I have never managed to effectively route my iPad into my set up, I use a hardware midi switcher(Phillip Rees) to distribute my midi . I use the tr707 to interface midi with my 24 pulses / note Roland stuff and I use my Korg Poly 800 to sequence. My CV stuff, Mc202 and Teisco 110f sit on their own but will sync with the Tr707.

Great video. I have been playing with Xynthesizr and B-Step a bit lately. Might want to check those out. They all seem to have some unique features. B-Step is pretty deep, taking me a while to get the hang of it. Going to check Auxy out for sure. Thanks!

Dammit this is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. A simple sequencer for the iPad to control a few bits of hardware. Great video and thx for tip on Auxy. Was wondering what MIDI interface to get too. How do you like the griffin? I know Alesis does something similar and have not been able to decide. Analysis paralysis. Anyhoo keep up the great vids. Been loving them. Cheers

I agree, the iPad is more hardware then a computer for this purpose. I have the 5th gen iPod Touch but need the 6th Gen. iPod Touch. Single core vs Multi core. No contest, thanks :)

Hey! This vid totally made me want to try this. Im getting midi interface for my ipad + auxy. First question.. Did you daisy chain your midi with 1 output or do you use somekind of x midi thru -box? Question No2.. Your MiniBrute, I see its the "regular" version? (SE edition has wood side panels?) and if so, I know the regular version has Arpeggiator insted of the SE's Sequencer.. but isit a sequencer you have on that regular minibrute? (all the tiny labels) Thanx for the inspiration man! :)

Since your Griffin MIDI interface only has one MIDI in and out, how are you able to send a MIDI signal to multiple instruments? I'm sure it's a simple answer, I'm sort of new to the realm of hooking up multiple MIDI keyboards and drum machines and such... Thanks for the informative video, I downloaded Auxy because of you, and it's very fun so far.

Josh Crowe i'm using a midi solutions quadra thru to split the signal 4 ways. Unfortunately I recently heard they removed midi as an option in Auxy? Havenmt verified yet but that would be awful...

Good primer. Roland is putting out a new keyboard this month (Sept 2019) and while it provides layering - it doesn't provide sequencing. But it does support bluetooth for both MIDI and audio out (possibly for patches too but I'm not 100% on that). I've got a couple of iPads that would be perfect for filling the sequencing gap. One question - does this software support bluetooth MIDI?

This has really inspired me to try this out. I've ordered a little 4 in 4 out midi hub and I'm gonna start using aux to sequence my aira hardware so i can just knob twiddle! Probably a dumb question but is it not possible to program the tr8 via auxy? Here, you're just using it to trigger a beat you have already programmed, right?

Can you sync 2 Auxy apps (between 2 ipads) so they sync with each other? I can't seem to find a way, manually syncing the two sucks due to touchscreen latency. Awesome video by the way you convinced me to use it and I love it!

This is the old version of Auxy, right? I get the display with a list of MIDI settings, but when I try to connect to Gadget (talking intra-iPad connection here), and I set the channels on both apps, I get no sound. Any tips?

+Anoop Sahal Our tables are custom for the room and super easy to make. Basically, we used a 4x4 piece of plywood and just it in half, mounted some hinges, and bolted it to the wall. The hinges were heavy duty and it needed additional support to get a firm grip to the wall. A keyboard stand is used as the legs/support. After that, we found some rubber matting at how depot, used gorilla glue to adhere it to the surface, and painted the trim. Super lofi, but great for when you want to get some more space. You can just fold the tables into the wall. Hope this was helpful!

Yep. How dare people combine it with apps they don't earn anything on. Profit > User's needs. So Auxy was uninstalled.

So what's the best substitute app for auxy?
@madmac66
@madmac66 5 лет назад
LLOYD POPP I’d say Genome is a good sequencer to replace Auxy. It’s a bit more complicated because it’s more powerful. Auxy s beauty was how simple it was. There are some fun alternatives too like Patterning and Fugue Machine

Mainly i think the instruments on the ipad are cool and all, but im having a hard time with most of my equipment, i want to get the automated electronic music thing going on, im of a performance mindset, and im trying to get into the production side of things. Ims20 and Moog model15 look great, but the prices are starting to skyrocket for some of this stuff, and i dont even know if theyre really worth that much. *forgive me, im really new at this stuff, so if i get any info wrong, or im on the wrong path, help me out*

So what's your question? Are you asking about what Synth to buy? That is very much just down to what sounds you like and how deep your pockets are! There are so many options for synthesizers and sounds that for me personally it came down more to the features of what the synth could do that benefited what I wanted than it's actual sounds! That being said my main workhorse is a JD-XA which not only has a lot of amazing features but also sounds incredible. Prior to that I was mainly using a Novation MiniNova which is a much cheaper way to go. As for apps - they will never be quite the same as the real thing if it is trying to impersonate some analogue synth, although the apps that mimic digital synths do sound very convincing. If production is a big thing for you then this is quite important.
@ageshero
@ageshero 8 лет назад
+Adam Robertshaw well, I'm so performance minded, all I think about is the sounds and the keys. And figuring out how to utilize the other functions without the fear that is enabled for that interaction, might prove difficult. I want to be able to expand my skill set. Really the only way I might figure it out is to sit down with a dude that's set it all up already, and spam my crazy questions about everything routed to whatever and what cables I need and how many bla bla bla
@ageshero
@ageshero 8 лет назад
+Jean-Luc Thomas I need absolute basics at times, "First, plug it in, and then, do this" "Then ableton live etc"
@AdamRobertshaw
@AdamRobertshaw 8 лет назад
I think your expectations are a bit far strung... you can't just jump straight in and play wildly complex cool beats and such, it's more like learning a new instrument category, and within that every single instrument is different, so you are unlikely to find someone who knows everything. I think the best bet is to start with 1 reliable sound generator that you like (maybe you heard some synth in a track - search online and I'm sure you'll find out what was used on the track), and slowly expand from there. You may find that a synth you like the sound of may be really ugly to use, so you might not gel with it well and prefer a different device because of it. I personally get along quite well with Roland gear, but I'm not a fan of their arpeggiators, so as a result I use other gear to control that on the Roland stuff. Connectivity is just either CV or Midi (as well as USB for Roland AIRA products and "sync" for Korg) - for me I only use midi. If you aren't familiar with midi then learn the basics first, and how it operates from youtube vids etc. Your setup will vary how it is all routed depending on what sounds and sequences you want to generate. It's like pedal sequence in a guitar rig - it can have a big effect. It's a huge learning curve but a very fun process that will help you decide your synthesis direction! You'll find yourself spending a lot more time in your local music shops testing out gear!
