My local body of water does not have skipjack and the catfish do NOT like them as much as they do shad especially gizzard shad. I fished the other day and using cut shad, live shad, bluegills, chicken the cut shad was the ticket. It’s been that way all year if my memory serves me right. I’ve been cutting 4 to 5 inch gizzard shad into 3 pieces and that’s been the bait of choice and it’s caught fish from a pound all the way to 70 with the majority being 20-35 pounds. I’ve caught several flatheads as well and most of those came on live minnows while crappie fishing the same area. I always cast out a couple catfish lines while crappie fishing.
That short bridge behind you in the opening is where we used to slay 2lb+ bluegill from the bank with crickets. With worms you would catch small ones too but with crickets… hang on to that ultralight. Also where a Pocket Fisherman broke on me trying to play a huge carp on 10lb line. It was a crap rod. Also where I landed my first gar. The memories of that stretch of water there are many and memorable. The bad part is you've shown me how screwed up and built up it is there since the 70s and 80s. That public dock wasn't there or anything. It was just a country road. Why, they even have a sewage plant there now. Dag blast it. ☹️ At least there is still water there with fish in it. Everything else is messed up. lol You did pretty good, actually. Size wasn't much but they kept you busy which is almost as good as landing honkers. Thanks for taking me back to Turkey Creek, Dave. It has changed _a lot_ but it still feels good to see it. See ya next trip! 👍😊
I'ma tell you one thing chicken is always best when trying to go for catfish understand that catfish do get tired of eating the same fish you throw something different out an they are going to jump on it chicken holds a lot of oil and they love the smells of it that goes for any other fish as well if they're not already full of what they have been eating throughout the day or night I decided to make a comment after the look on your face when the chicken got hit first God bless keep sharing and thanks for sharing God is love an love is God
I drive by that spot most every day and the main channel as well and wonder if your out there. I'm a native of South Knoxville and take great pride in what you do. Your a great fisherman and smart plus the sarcasm is spot on, most of the implants in that area just don't get it. Thanks for the videos, I fished on Ft. Loudon with my grand parents.
@@ut000bs I went to Mt. Olive I used to fish I.C. King park before it was weird and dangerous. I made wood lures from pine and jigs from nylon rope and actually caught fish on them.
@@pmatheny1115 I spent many hours fishing at I.C. King. I've lived away from Knoxville for almost 40 years and I can imagine what you mean about that park. It was a good place in the 70s and 80s.
Well....in the last video you told us how BAD Fort Louden...or Lowden...either way....was fished out for Biggins.......so....I'm not surprised 💯😎....however I DO love your channel 🤙🤙
You may have already done a joint video with Hook Line and Chill? But? Would love to see you take a few of them out on a fishing video trip. If you could put them on some big fish. Lol Great work Dave today. Enjoy your channel very much..🎣🇺🇸
Hey dave , my wife asked what you were to the trolling motor each time you hooked up, I was unsure and said I'd ask you. Thank for your hard work and great vids
One of their favorite foods to bite on is filet mignon, take about 10 or 12 and bury them in worm dirt for a week and let them get really tender, then use half a filet at a time. they love it.
He IiteraIIy said in the first 30 seconds that hes been getting request to use chicken, so its more IikeIy viewers Iike you who aIso watch Dieter's channeI is the ones who's been doing that kinda talking
Can you tell me what all that get up is on your line ? What’s the big cylinder looking thing on the two side poles? And on the middle one, what’s the long black thing ? A weight? And your using rattles for bottom fishing ? This is all new to me
I have used jello chicken before for catfish. You're correct the fish don't care about the flavor. The scent is what draws them in, stinky usually works better.
Hello Dave, chicken being a cousin of Turkey is bound to attract inquisitive youngsters. the wiser older cats know it is your out one of your experiments. What snacks took your fancy today
There's a spot under some power lines where catfish really only bite on chicken or chicken livers. Never made the connection until yesterday when I saw a flock of birds get zapped and fall in the water.
David not the expert like you. But the last three years as a tradition. I take my kids catfishing Thanksgiving morning while their ma cooks the bird. We take the giblets and chunk up the neck for bait. We've slayed Thanksgiving morning on all those offerings. Any other day of the year with the exact bait we skunk out till the kids catch bait fish then we catching them on that.
I love this, I wanna try to catch some big ones. I have no idea what else to use as far as the rest of your tackle goes, I’m a TN native and would like to know some different things to get as far as a good set up goes.
In the boat with my buddy, he was fishing with chicken breast soaked in Wd-40. I laughed and laughed at him. He pulled in a 62 lb. cat , …..I shut up. Been using it ever since.
@dwhunter8904 Not to rain on anyone's parade, but using WD40 as a fish attractant is maybe not the best idea. It is a petroleum distillate and could be considered introducing a pollutant in to the water. Technically illegal. For years it has been rumored to have "fish oil" in it, It does not.
Don't you love the minute the hook pierces a piece of unthawed chicken and goes nail deep into your thumb.. Wonder if that requires cleaning or it's already to late??
We don't got skipjack here in southern Pa.....but we do have Alwifes or however the hell you spell it....they work GREAT..Can be caught the SAME way as Skipjack 💯😎
We used to use chicken hearts, liver, gizzards (they were packaged together) for sturgeon fishing on the Columbia River in Oregon... We didn't use them fresh, though...we would open the package and dump them into a bucket and leave them out in the sun for a day... They get really ripe, and the sturgeon love them... You should try leaving the chicken out in the sun for a day and see if the catfish like the ripe chicken better...
Everyone knows McDonald's chicken nuggets dipped in sweet-n-sour catch the big-uns! Oh wait, I was thinking of my experience catching the UT Knoxville ladies.
Man I wanna try chicken again ive always used chicken liver but I got stinkbait that has fiber in it and the smell omg will kill ya I usually keep me a small bottle of hand sanitizer in my tackle box for emergencies or whatever. Can't wait to get back at my local 3acre lake thats a mile from my parents home.
Wth, I've got a Turkey creek right here where I live in Dublin Georgia. Not a catfish haven by far, but a locally famous creek nonetheless. That madcats rattle ain't nothin but a zera spook with the hooks removed.
How does chicken stay on the hook I tried to use some the other day and it would fly off every cast couldn't even get it in the water with a hook in it
Hi Dave!! Love the video!!! In this video you made a comment about strawberry jello. I thought Strawberry jello, panko, and sweet corn was used for catching carp, not catfish.
