Jason, watched view of the big blue button/canvas tutorials - this one is the best, most focused, to the point, and complete tutorial. Thanks for doing this!
I am very nervous of any technology, especially when I feel it is not my choice to use it. This presentation calmed my nerves about using the BBB with students and I will set-up practice sessions asap. Thanks so much
Very thorough explanation that helped me to better understand the possibilities that this platform has to offer to teachers for their courses. Thank you!
Thanks for outlining all that this program can do. How do students take notes during a presentation. Many are most comfortable using their laptops for note-taking and I haven't found information that clarifies if that's an option?
Hi Jason. Thanks for doing this! I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. (1) How did you get the ppt into the conference in the first place? Was that something that you did when you set up the conference? (2): My department folks are now comparing different discussion tools. I think a big advantage of bbb is that if the course uses canvas then you already have every student in there, so inviting them to the conference is a simple click of the box, while other systems may require you to connect to each student individually. (3) What is the limit for the number of students in the bbb discussion? (4) Do you know if it is possible to hook up a doc cam to canvas so you can actually write on paper and feed the recording into the discussion? I am not comfortable with writing with the mouse. Writing on paper comes closes to what we would do in a regular class, hence the question.
Hi Jason Johnson, these recorded videos are very informative. However, downloading the videos seems to be impossible as I can only have access to the videos for only 14 days. I really wish that you can make the same available for long-term storage and use.
Jason, I have learned so much from your videos. I have a Canvas question. I have a teacher who accidentally replaced all her personal modules while importing from the team course. Do you know if she can retrieve her content?
I love this, thank you. Will be attempting it for the first time this week. One question, does it record attendance or feed through to the attendance feature within canvas?
You are a lifesaver!! Thank you!! I wanted to ask you, every time you do a 'Conference' you have to create it minutes before the class or you can set it up as a appointment?
Hello, Jason thanks for making this. Is there a way to assign a conference session as an assignment under modules? Or to have watching the conference be an assignment that can be posted in modules?
Great explanation, Jason, thanks! Is there a way to do breakout rooms for small discussions in a conference? Also, can I lock students from chat, or can I see the private chats that go on between students? I have some issues with bullying that I need to monitor. Thanks!
my students cannot see (and join) the conference meeting I created earlier on Canvas even after I start the meeting. However, they can see and join the newer one I create as a replacement, why do you think?
Thank you, Jason. It was a very well developed presentation. My question is: Could I hire a simultaneous translator for those with a different language? Could he be able to use BBB to communicate with those students while listening to the presentation in the original language? Once again, thank you BBB seems very appealing right now to communicate knowledge and experience around the globe.
Thank you, Jason, for this instructive video tutorial! One question: is it also possible to show video fragments directly to the students (and interrupt at certain points, for example) or do I do this by sharing the instructor's screen? Thank you in advance for your answer!
Jason, I teach a foreign language and I would like to use BBB as a personal introduction, students posting a video giving their personal intro for all to view. I do not want to conduct a live conference. Can students post and view all postings/videos of their classmates?
Jason, When I log out of Big Blue Button, my presentation disappears as well. How do I save my presentation in Big Blue Button until after I present to my students? Do I have to remain logged in until after the class? I am using Chrome. Thank You.
Thanks Jason. It's comprehensive and simple (the video + the tool ) . I've got a question : if I have a mindmap or a concept map to use for the presentation ( Png format... or other depending on the software / app used), will it be possible to use on BigBlueButton and does it enable to zoom all of the presentation parts? Thanks
I was hoping to learn how to cast or import documents found in canvas (assignments) into the conference environment. If the students' assignment is not on my hard drive, other than screen sharing or copy and paste is there a way to import the document?
Great video - clear and concise! Thank you. In the presentation space, can you go to the internet? I'd like to talk students through a literature review search.
Thanks for the helpful presentation, Jason. Question: I am teaching a class of 20 students remotely using BBB. Is there any way to have the students break into four separate teams to work on an assignment in class as teams and then, after a period of time, for all the students to rejoin the conference? Would each team leader have to create a separate team conference, and then perhaps come back to the whole class conference to discuss?
@@higherelearning Thanks. Another question: Does BigBlueButton have something similar to attendee attendance tracking in Zoom? In other words, is there a way we can be sure that participants have not minimized the window and doing other things on their computers?
My version of Canvas and conference no longer look like this. Most of the functions are the same. Be aware: When bigbluebotton converts powerpoints, you lose all of your animations.
I have a hearing-impaired student who needs to be able to see an interpreter. How can the interpreter share his/her video so my hearing-impaired student can view it?
Hi Jason, Thanks for this video. I have a question. I just discovered that I can save videos in canvas for only 14 days and then they disappear. How can I upgrade so that I can save videos indefinitely?
Thanks for your quick reply! How do I get premium hosting and when I do, does that automatically translate to canvas? What is the cost for premium? I filled out the form on your site and look forward to talking. Sharon
I would like to know how I can share the screen with my students and be able to write on a white board so they can see examples of the sentences (I teach Spanish). I'm not sure if there are more tutorials about this. Thank you!
It seems like you can if you have a doc cam or web cam and you share your screen, or there was also the whiteboard and presentation feature... did someone answer this question for you? Interested to know what solution worked best. I teach ESL 1, so I could use that, too.
