I see a functional neurologist and the eye movements and brain exercises we practice have stopped 90% of my intrusive thoughts and anxiety. So happy this is being talked about!
Wow Annie, that's so incredible to hear. I know all of this somatic + nervous worked also changed my relationship with intrusive thoughts (+ OCD like symptoms!)
@@TheHolisticPsychologist Thank you very much, you may not see my reply but the work you do Is also integral to my healing, so thank you very much for all that you do! I'm not religious, but I preach about your work 😂 💜
Yay! I’ve been EMDR for a couple of months now and I’m finally functioning like a human being! Thank you for sharing something about this miracle of a therapy❤️
This is very interesting. I have noticed how I feel incredibly more 'happy' when i move to the terrace, large park, open space. Found it immediately relaxing to try and focus on a distant object like a tree from my balcony. I find it interesting that you have also talked about it.
How interesting…. I used to do this as a child, not with my fingers but with objects in my room. I thought I was just a weird kid lol. I guess I found it soothing. I don’t really know why I would do it and I never told anyone.
Great insight Shirley-- I know I used to do something similar with my eyes (my obsessively looking down at my shirt) which I also now think was my child self trying to regulate an overwhelmed nervous system.
Same, I've been working on a project so looking at my computer wayyy more than normal recently finding such relief by taking frequent breaks to look up + around with my eyes!
I’m so amazed over how helpful this little quick and easy exercise is. It grounds me and shifts my state. So very helpful! Thank you for all the resources and tools you share Dr. Nicole!
When I was a young boy, I used to have a lazy eye. You could imagine growing up in a home where there was trauma experienced in these environments how my sympathetic nervous system was deeply imprinted with this response . As an adult when I’m driving, or when stess occurs while texting, I notice my body about to have this response now. Thank you for this informative video, my eyes are aware 🧐🤓
This is a VERY BLESSED RESOURCE - thank you so much for empowering us to help ourselves. I received EMDR a number of years ago after a very traumatic car accident & have wanted to remember the movements since, but for some reason my mind has been completely blank. I very much appreciate your kindness in sharing & demonstrating this technique 🙏 Please keep this wisdom flowing out to us. Blessings & MUCH gratitude to you & your generous spirit 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
How very interesting and helpful! Thank you, Nicole. I cannot wait to try it when I am struggling with intrusive thoughts, which is quite often. I wish you a very pleasant day.
Your heads moving lol I’m just teasing…..but it was 🤣🤣 just discovered you and I really love your natural style! You seem really real! I am not a fan of psychologists….no offence, but I find most of them aloof and Unrelatable….or up themselves lol sorry, just my personal experience! But I really dig your style! Thank you 🙏 ❤️
Hi. Tried this exercise really makes a difference , stress is everywhere these days more aware of what causes it, would not have thought about the eyes as a way of relieving same. Many thanks👍💚☺
Hi Dr. LePera! My girlfriend loves what you do. You've helped her so much in so many ways. She reads it religiously. She's about to graduate soon and I was wondering if there was a chance she could talk with you in some way. It would make her entire decade to meet you.
Very interesting eye movements. I'm familiar with EMDR but the diagonal movements got me. I found them easier with my right eye, but i was jumping around with my left eye. I gather that my right brain was more active during the exercise or i need more practice on that side. You're looking great by the way 💖 Love the glow and muscle tone 😊
I also find it difficult-- I actually had to re-film the video when the first time my eyes were jumping ALL around! Thank you for the kind words, I know I am feeling great!
Yes, another help way to expand those eye movements -- the other day I went outside + just looked back/forth into the distance, which helped big time after being focused on my computer screen for hours!
Hi, I'm hoping you might be able to share some insight into the Cawthorne-Cooksey exercises used in vestibular rehab such as gaze stabilisation. Is there a connection between what you've demonstrated and these. I ask because I'm in the process of investigating a vestibular migraine diagnosis w hearing loss. I've had this condition since age 4 with many misdiagnosis and just learned to live with it until the past few years where is has become more persistent. I've suspected for some time that it is a trauma response/ nervous system dysregulation, and the information you've shared has a ring of knowing and wanted to follow the lead. Any light you might be able to share would be greatly appreciated. BTW - I love your work and the authenticity with which you share it, thank you. x
It's new thing to hear . I tried it many different times through the day and I think it's helpful. Nicole would you suggest some good rituals we can have as daily self promises ? Actually I keep making my own promises daily during my healing and I was thinking of more, but I couldn't. I'm starving to cultivate more good habits because I'm empowered after doing this work.
I'm so glad you found it helpful Re Li! As far as new rituals + small daily promises go, it is really helpful to keep your daily commitments SMALL to help you work through the normal resistance we all have to making + keeping new habits! It may be helpful to break down one of the new rituals you'd like to begin into small steps that you can then begin to practice daily.
@@TheHolisticPsychologist you always emphasize on SMALL promises, and I totally agree with you, from my own experience, I began my healing journey by doing that . Love you . I hope I will have the opportunity to be accepted as a member in your selfhealers circle. I'm really looking forward to that .
I tried it and had trouble keeping my focus on my fingers. My eyes wanted to skip to where my fingers were moving to, and not follow the actual path. It took a lot of effort to trace their full path, and to not move my neck. I would love feedback on this, if you have it to give.
everyone has movement patterns, and those patterns can be very strong. For example. the psychologist here is asking you to isolate the eyes. that is something rarely anyone does we move the eyes together with the head and usually "jump around" with our vision. Don't worry too much, do little, don't strain, close your eyes between take a brake and pay attention to your breathing. It is not easy to make very smooth isolated eyemovement, but if you keep trying it will get better.
@@TheHolisticPsychologist you are very welcome! Another suggestion i have is to lie down on the floor, if it is too difficult in standing. This way you can relax more and as the eyeballs are resting inside the sockets, the muscles become free to move. If it gets too easy get up and do it in standing again 😉
Yes shift focus micro to macro detail to big picture shift perspective to achive Gestalt increase awareness be like a life gaurd remember to smile once in a while be alert- relaxed chillin with white stuff on your nose on a giant chair noticing every tiny detial in your area be vigilent use an umbrella call out when spot lightning hear thunder pack it in play spoons inside laugh wait out the storm may close and go home soon but hey spoons and snacks and laughing is good be content home soon love my memories of our happy valley Letchworth State Park NY Shout out to all alumni of The south pool raiders! this just saved my life away from all. even church that was causing all this internal twisted ness in the first place. (clearly church and the bible don’t work for me and i’m not gonna make those two words work for me either). thank you for not judging me. thank you for actually saving my eyes!! thank you for reminding me of my good healthy eyes/eye movements. thank you for being more resulting. i hope others that read this find the same breath of fresh air. 🌱🙃✨🫢🫶🏼🤞🏼✌🏼🫵🏼👀☯️✅
