Your very welcome Reilley. I was really surprised at how effective this technique is. I have caught some really big fish on those tiny hooks which is quite amazing. Thank you for your comments.

This brings back memories. I learnt how to catch bream in the Maribyrnong river this way when I was a teenager. I never caught a damn thing in that river until I started using the quiver-tip rods, small hooks, the burley cages (or swimfeeders they were called) and maggots. It was my first real success in fishing and I'll never forget those times.

Sounds like your fishing journey is similar to mine. I started fishing along the Nong. At first it was quite challenging until you start to learn some rigging and bait tips that consistently catch. Nibble tip rods, Berley cage, maggots, or unweighted scubbies used to work really well. I meet a lot of good people doing so and was able to run a few family fishing clinics and share some tips.

This is how we learn. I fish Western Port a lot, and for the first 15 years there, I had some great days, but that was more luck than knowledge. I've been lucky enough to have a Western Port mentor the last couple of years who has taught me a lot, and the results have improved dramatically. So I try and help others too now. It's how we learn and it's gratifying to see the joy on people's faces when they get that first great fish. My dad got his first ever Snapper in my boat a couple of weeks ago, after we lost Mum to cancer a year ago. She would have been proud of him as am I. Might get out on Sunday hopefully for another crack, and might give the plastics a go for some flathead too now!

Darren I really enjoyed reading this comment. Fishing is a sport that can really bring people together. I didn't grow up with fishing and had to learn a lot by reading and experimenting. I now have plenty of fishing mates who are all happy to share tips among each other. I do agree that it is very satisfying to give people some tips then watch them catch fish. The excitement they get is a joy to watch. Something I very much enjoy and I get messages from people daily saying the learned something from the channel. That's awesome to hear that you helped your dad catch his first big snapper. I'm sure your Mum would have been very proud. Great to see a passion and pass time like fishing bringing friends and family together. Thanks for all your comments, keep em coming !!

Hi John, I purchased the maggots from A1baits online. I dont know them personally. I have ordered from them twice and twice had the maggots with 48 hours. They come in a box that's kept cool with frozen bottles and wrapped in paper. So thats been pretty good. These are the ones that I go www.a1baitsupplies.com.au/store/_A1_Maggots/300_A1_Maggots_%281_packet%29__Packed_in_Peat_Moss I know if you buy maggots of the shelf its about $10 for a container, this is $30 for 2 containers, so your paying a little extra. However only a handful of shops selling maggots these days. The wife wasnt to keen for me to grow them LOL. Thanks for the positive comments.

Great video as always. Had some success there after watching your last video getting my first bream. Where can you buy those small burley cages from?

Hey Jonathan, Its great to hear that these videos videos helped you catch your first bream. That's exactly why I create them, so its pleasing to hear. Thanks for the feedback. With the berley cages Im pretty sure I picked some up from my local tackle store and some from ebay. Only ones I could find searching online were these which would work well. www.a1baitsupplies.com.au/store/_A1_Maggots/A1_Maggot_Feeder_Cages_x_2 I hope that helps, keep the feedback coming. Regards Al

@@fishingmad thanks Alan! I like your video very much. I only go fising in Maribyrning river in Spring, Summer and sometimes Autumn. I am surprised that you could catch that many breams during the Winter.

Thank you kindly. Surprisingly the Nong fishes well all year round, even in he colder months of winter. Just need to stick to doing many of the techniques shown in the video and you'll catch. I hope that helps, thanks for watching. Hope to see you out there.

Where are you fishing and are there flatheads there
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 5 лет назад
Fishing the Maribyrnong river about 4 ks up from the entrance. You get bream, mullet, pinkies and odd mulloway there. But Ive never caught a flatty that far up. If you fish the closer to the entrance on the Yarra river you can get some big Flathead there. Plenty of locations here you can try fishingmad.com.au/locations I hope this helps. Thanks for the comments

No worries, yeah its a lot easier just to buy them. Also if you store them in the fridge they seem to last about 2 months otherwise they only last a week or two.

I cant believe the way you hooked the Maggots on. You should go through the tail not mid body.
