Using Multi Material systems to Print in one material and support in another! 

The down side to multimaterial, especially with incompatible materials like PLA and PETG, is that the purge to gain a pure material on a single extruder printer is even more than what is needed for a clean color change of the same material. If you don't purge A LOT, then you end up with impure material that can either have too much adhesion for the support interface, or not enough adhesion for the model layers. IDEX or tool changers, pretty much anything that has an extruder for each material type, is the best way to do that kind of thing, based on my (and others') experience with both kinds of machines. I've had a Prusa Mk3s+ with MMU2s for years (now MMU3) and it works just as well as an AMS, but the purge waste was insane when doing multi-material. With my five tool XL, it's pretty much no waste and no contamination. Sure, it's expensive. No argument there. But, it's also a beast of a machine and the only consumer level, large format FFF printer currently available unless you're SUPER hard core and want to try and build some kind of VORON tool changer.
