Brian and Raul go over the last step in getting your new DIY installed leather covers looking like a professional did the job for you. Steam will not get hot enough to damage your new leather or vinyl covers but it will get hot enough to adjust and get rid of the unwanted wrinkles.
Remember this technique is used when the covers are installed evenly and correctly and only used for minor adjustments. If the velcro areas not evenly installed even steaming your new covers will not get rid of the wrinkles. If you have any questions or concerns please email us at Sales@TheSeatShop.com or give us a call at 214-710-2565

I have seat indentations from a baby seat. Can I use steam on my vinyl to remove the indentations? Toyota calls them Softex seats.

@@gameslima2808 Just a normal steamer will work just fine. You can find them on Amazon for less than $50. We used a higher-end steamer but a normal handheld one will work too.

I tried using a garment steamer and it made the leather melt and get tough in an area. was it because they cover it in some type of coating ?

In my case, accidently when steaming the foam back into shape. From what I understand it's permanent damage, wish I noticed sooner

I see all of these videos but no one says anything about this intense heat ruining the built in seat warmers or not!...I would think that this would damage the small wires that heat up the seats because it is hotter than the seats would ever be......

I have Mini Cooper with special seats advertised as leather. Not sure if they are REAL leather or not. The drivers seat is stretched and baggy. Will this procedure help with that....or only vinyl? Thanks!

Hi, yes, this can help but the cover may be worn out due to the condition of the foam cushion. If you remove your seat/cover, steam the foam and cover, everything should look a little bit at least for the time being. You may need to end up replacing the cover and (or) the foam.

Without pics it's hard to tell. I worked on a car this past summer that had a new dealer installed cover and the center was real baggy. It had new foam and I had to do a take up of an inch and a half on the center of the cover to get it tight.

It’s probably not leather

What does that intense heat do for the seat warmers?.......
@neilmurray626

Nothing if you let the seat dry out properly. The element that heats the seat is only a metallic wire that heats up when a live current is passing through.

Can I just use an iron?

We would not recommend that at all, you don't want to ruin your covers, and too much heat, pressure, etc., can do that. A normal steamer is all you need to do the trick. Let us know if you have any other questions.

If that seat cover was pulled to the bottom a bit more before attaching the listings steam probably wouldn’t need to be used.
@TheSeatShop

While that is a valid point, it's always good to steam the foam and cover when installing a new cover.
