If someone isn’t comfortable with anything bigger then the 22lr, then I say carry it. Any caliber is better then not having one at all. Not sure why people with bigger calibers cut down on those who carry the 22lr, need to lift other shooters up, bringing down other shooters just leaves more room for anti groups to bring us all down. Carry what you are comfortable with, good shooting and gods speed to KP family and fans. 🎥💪🏽💯👍🙏🏻
Good video. Granted, a .380 or 9mm would be a better all-around EDC round, but the low recoil of a .22lr will allow you to stay "on target" without having to take that split second to re-acquire for follow-up shots. And besides, I've heard it said that "Any gun is better than no gun!".
Thank you so much for watching. I don't carry a .22 for edc. I have on a unique occasion if we are going frog gigging or hunting. I just carry it instead of two guns. I am not advocating a .22 because personally I think there are better options. Some people that do carry a .22 have asked about videos like this so I was trying to oblige. God bless you and yours :-)
I don't know why people use that same quote to defend the .22lr. No one will stand in front of it the same way they would not volunteer to stand in front of scissors, knives, fire crackers, bricks, stone, bats, etc. A better explanation of the effectiveness of .22lr would be the following scenario. If you were captured by the enemy and they gave you the option to shoot you in the head with a .22lr or a 9mm from 7 yards away, and you had no other choice or say in the decision, which will you plead for them to use?
@@joer8386 excellent rebuttal and 100% true. I have made fun of the imbeciles who promote using .22LR as a defense weapon. Simply dumb AF! Yes, better than a sharp stick but not better than a .380, 9mm, .38, .357, .44, .40, .45, ….for gods sake even the ..22mag is significantly better. Why would anyone choose the .22LR. Why?????!
@@number4777. Another thing I hate defenders of the 22lr keep saying is that more people die from 22lr.... BUT, they keep out important information about that statistic. 1) They do not mention the length of time it took for that person to die. Yes, you can die from a 22lr, but it is usually after a long time before you bleed out. A criminal will have plenty of time to cause a lot of damage against you before he succumbs to that bullet. 2) They also fail to mention that because the 22LR is low-cost, everyone has it, especially in poorer neighborhoods where people can't afford more expensive ammo. There is a reason that more crime is committed with the 22LR: It is cheaper to use compared to other ammo. I would not risk my life depending on that calibre to defend me. I will stick to stronger ammo. I even have a .380 as a backup gun using Lehigh defense ammo because it has controllable recoil but a lot more power than a 22lr. That ammo will go through a lot. Especially in the winter months.
Great test! My Grandma is 98 yrs. old; she shoots a S&W kit gun .22lr, about 10 years ago, she shot an intruder in the ass 5 times, I believe he is still running!
The main factor with 22 is penetration. Forget expansion as a significant factor from a handgun. The 22 is a burst fire round, and can seriously injure or kill. Most of these ballistic models don’t factor in the bullet ricocheting off ribs and pelvic bones , creating more damage than expansion would.
I am a funeral director and embalmer by trade. Usually a .22 is hole in and hole out. It's not impossible to ricochet off a pelvic bone but the round won't dance around just takes a different course. Thanks for watching :-)
@@TheKentuckyPatriot Agenda is noted. Your attacker is likely to have a larger caliber weapon so why would you go with the smaller option? This is your life or your families lives you are talking about here and you want to use .22LR.. A round not even designed to be used in pistols.
You may come up against an armor clad attacker. You will need deadly surgical precision to hit the vulnerable areas. The 22 in the Walther TPH makes for a deadly accurate primary or backup weapon when conceal is a real necessity
Already saw my brother get shot in the leg with a22 took less than 10 minutes for him to go into shock Not like the movies where the guys are running around on steroids
I built/assembled 3 pistol caliber carbine type firearms for my wife for home defense. She is petite, not very tough, kind of mouse like. But at the range, firing .22 caliber guns didn't scare her as much. For home defense, it gave her short length firearms that she can hold with 2 hands, lightweight, virtually no recoil, and 25 round magazines. Consider this approach for your wife or kids. The sound is manageable, and low recoil means they stay on target easier and faster. And with 25 rounds, she is trained to fire several rounds to stop the threat. And if there are multiple intruders, she will have enough rounds to serve them all up a plate of justice. By now the gun community hopefully has shushed the macho exaggerating fools who say the .22 doesn't kill, or bounces around, or doesn't go through clothes. None of these people would volunteer to test those theories. Fact is, especially in a PCC, high velocity .22lr is going to penetrate, expand, and most likely stop someone immediately. Just the sound of being fired on makes 99% of intruders retreat. And if my wife has fire 10 rounds of .22, I have no doubt that will stop them. If not, well then a .38 or a 9mm wasn't going to stop them either. Its an affordable round, cheaper to practice with, and practice is one huge step towards better defense.
Whatever works man. I don't care what caliber you use as long as it keeps your family safe its all that matters. We are hillbillies lol. My wife shoots 45-70, 454 Casull, a 50AE, shotguns with 3" magnums. My son shoots his own deer with a .243. He hunts turkey and small game with a 20ga and I have him on video on this channel doing mag dumps with an AR when he was six. I would just say train with it, be able to clear a malfunction , and don't worry about what the gun community says. Thanks for watching. God bless you and yours :-)
@@TheKentuckyPatriot I am old and have lots of arthritis now and have been stepping down in calibers as I age. At this point my prefered gun is a S&W 380 EZ, but maybe in a few years I might end up depending on a 22. A 22 doesn't have the energy to create much of a shockwave cavity in tissue like a larger caliber so placement becomes more critical, and it may take more than a couple of rounds to deter a home invader. Truth is most folks will lose their motivation once they get hit, though some may just get more aggressive and since the 22 LR lacks the kind of stopping power of larger calibers it may require multiple rounds to stop them, so having a very reliable gun and reliable ammo can make all the difference.
@@wilycoyote9091 Very well stated. You have lot's of experience and from reading your comment I can tell you have a vast knowledge of firearms and ammo capabilities. A well placed .22 will do wonders. Thanks for watching. May God richly bless you and yours 🙂
@@TheKentuckyPatriot True, well placed 22 round can end the threat. When I was growing up my brother got shot in the gut with a single 22 and almost didn't make it. I don't underestimate its ability in hands of an experienced person.
In my youth, there was a story in the local newspaper about a family in our neighborhood, in which someone was killed by an accidental discharge from a .22lr rifle in the home. It turned out that I knew this family through my church. One day I was visiting their home, and I saw the hole in the bedroom door made by the .22 bullet in the middle of its trajectory from muzzle to victim. I asked, and my host confirmed that this was indeed the hole left by the bullet that day. Mind you, this was an older home with solid wood doors, not modern hollow ones. That a single .22 round could be fatal, even when not carefully aimed and after passing through a solid wood door, made quite an impression on me. Then there's the case of the world record largest grizzly bear being killed by a single round from a .22lr. Now, that round was carefully, expertly placed... but, even so!
Oh yeah, nothing's wrong with 22LR, I love plinking with some 22, and I wouldn't hesitate to use it to defend my life if I had to. Sure, I have larger calibers, but I'm not one of those who say I'd never use such and such for defense:) HA! I like to say, I've never been in a defend my life situation, but I'd still bet when bullets start flying no one around is considering calibers:)
They consider calibers before the SHTF. If 22s were the answer, the FBI, Military, Police, Gun Guys, ect... would all be armed with 22s. I see the need for them but realistically would you reach for a 22 or a 9mm if you were in a bad situation?
@@FoulPet Whatever, I don't buy it and never will. 45 AUTO, 9MM, .357 MAG, ALL bigger and better and all will do more damage than a .22LR I agree However, IF .22LR is being shot at you, YOU, ME, and the world are going to be getting the hell out the way, and we better hope we don't get hit in the head with it:)
@@geico1975 Yes, I agree. If someone is shooting a slingshot, I'm getting out of the way. 22 will give you a dirt nap but. I'm just against people implying it's a good self defense round. In "my" experience, I get about a 1% or more failure rate . I also believe it has a greater chance to be deflected. If it's all you have then it's better than a stick. Chances are that just showing a gun will resolve most problems. Shooting someone with any gun will resolve most of the other ones. In the rare instances that those don't work, rimfire should be the last option.
@@FoulPet Yeah, I would agree with your last few sentences:) HA! My main point in all of this, is if someone felt comfortable and was proficient with .22 and wanted to conceal carry with it, I wouldn't discourage them because of it, I guess.
Nice video. Thank you. The .22lr is very under rated, even in a short barrel. Back in the 80's I dispatched a feral dog with a double tap with a .22 Beretta Bob Cat. I believe it was using cheap hollow points. One thing I've found after 50+ years of shooting .22's is that hollow point expansion is somewhat "ify" with most brands, regardless of barrel lenght. I do carry a .22 lr pocket pistol or a pair of .22mag minis for edc often. They have bailed me out of a few bad situations over the years..
Glad to hear people that know what they are talking about. I carry whatever suits me that day from .22Lr-.357 and when I carry .22Lr I feel just as safe as I do when I carry .380/ 9mm/ 40 cal. / .357 whatever.
I cary a 22lr daily. Whenever someone tries to give me crap about my "little, ineffective BB gun" i ask them to let me empty my 10 rounds of pathetic ammo into their chest. So far, no takers. Seems their words and actions don't actually match up.
Great test, I was impressed by the penetration of all of those 22LR loads. I am considering getting a 22 for a loved one due to low recoil. That winchester mushroomed perfectly! I enjoyed this video looking forward to the next one.
I recently purchased a .22LR Taurus Revolver to use wile teaching my 51 year old daughter and my two grandsons who are in their teens now how to safely handle handguns. I needed it as both my other handguns are chambered in .45 ACP and first I can't afford the ammo now days and second, that is a powerful round for beginners, best to learn the basics before you go for the more powerful calibers.
Heres something...Every aspect of the push for gun control and every aspect of the border invasion in America and Europe is Jewish. Trump converted to Judaism, his daughter and son in law are Jewish! Biden proudly admits to be Zionist Jew and every person on his cabinet is Jewish! Why doesn't anyone talk about this? Can we at least talk about it? No one notice this?
People hate on me all the time for using my Taurus TX22 Compact as an EDC. What they usually fail to consider is that I use CCI Stingers which are 32 grain and rated for 1640fps. I’ve shot thousands of these rounds from my TX22 Compact without a single failure.
No hate here brother. All that matters is that you return safely home. I don't care what people choose as there edc. I just like to do demonstrations and show the pros and cons of each weapon and round. Thanks for watching 🙂
I was actually shocked at the GREAT performance of the TX 22. It eats anything, including some 50-year-old ammo. Caused me to also buy a TX 22 Compact. It is just like the full size. I also have a G 44 and a Sig P322. Both are ammo picky, but the Sig is a real ammo snob. It only works well with CCI, but I haven't tried all the brands in it.
I just had implants in my hands both in left and right. Im really really recoil sensitive now. I’m switching to my Taurus 22 compact with federal punch and stingers. With a Holosun 507k. Light no recoil and 10000% reliable
Outstanding video, very informative. I've been into .22LR for self defense for some time now, especially for women. They will do the job. A hit with a .22LR is better than a miss with a .44 Magnum. Thanks for the video.
I agree 💯. Many years ago, Mom stopped a guy trying to break into our house. She used a Marlin model 39- 22 caliber. I was 7 at the time. Dad had just bought the rifle from one of his brothers. Paid $20 for it. He gave it to me as my 1st gun. Mom liked shooting it too. Anyway, Dad was working late one night. A guy tried to break in through a window in my bedroom. Mom heard the noise and came running with a hammer. Mom swung the hammer at his arm that was coming through. She grabbed me up and grabbed the Marlin. He then started trying to get in through our locked back door. Mom hollered "I have a gun and I'll shoot !". He ignored her warning and continued to try to break in. Mom fired a shot dead center through the door. We don't know if he was hit or not, but he quickly left. We ran next door to a neighbor that had a phone and called the cops. Mom told them the story when they arrived and showed them the bullet hole in our door. The cop looked at it and said "Good job. If they come back, do it again!". I'm 58 now- and I still have that ole rifle.
I keep a taurus tx22 in my truck at all times, it's accurate as hell, never jams and holds 17 rounds. I also use a 22 rifle to kill critters that attack the chickens, possums, coyote, fox. And yes it will kill a coyote hit in the correct spot. It's a nasty little round coming out of a rifle especially
I have never been coyote hunting but hopefully after the holidays that is about to change. I appreciate you watching and I wish you and yours the very best :-)
You used the best medium for these type of tests. Good work! I carry the same pistol you were using as an EDC, use only CCI Velocities, and practice a great deal.
Agreed re cci. I think the 40 grain mini mag Target actually is very effective to punch through lots of surprising things for edc… I did a video on it.
Good video. It looks like it took a lot of work on your part to run this test. Suggestion - you may want to use a magic marker to keep track of your shots. I’m glad to see the CCI mini mag hollow point worked out. It’s what I use in my EDC. I switched from a 9 mm compact with a 3 inch barrel to a a 22 lr for EDC. The recoil on the 9 mm was too “snappy”, the slide was miserable to rack, and ammo too expensive. Not a fun gun to shoot. Your video reinforced my decision to switch as I train more with the 22.
I believe as you do! Shot placement can only be achieved if you are in control of the weapon, not the other way around. I carry a 380 and for home defense it's 380 and 22 magnum and 22lr .
i shot 380 version of the P365, recoil was better than 9mm. but ammo is more expensive. and i don't think the recoil spring felt much different than the 9mm version. an option to think about for people who want the concealment and capacity of these 9mm micro-compacts but don't like the recoil. i also tried the recent LCP Max, a little more comfortable than the LCP II 380 with the slightly larger grip. but still fairly jumpy and my palm aches after a trip to the range, with the unchanged weight of the gun.
Glock 44 with CCI Velocitor is my EDC combination. I don't like the recoil of my G43x and having to resight after every shot. I can put every round on point with my .22, which will give anyone in the way big problems.
More in summer, I carry a Ruger sr22 with 4.5" barrel. It loads reliably. Think that extra 1" of barrel helps with penetration; maybe expansion. Practice with Win 40grn hp, rated at 1280. Been paying abt $.12/ round. My carry rounds are CCI velocitor or Rem 40grn viper. Viper has a flat plate nose. Both, extremely reliable.
Tested with 2" barrel at 1070 fps, 29 grain bullet! Which gives it a total energy of 73 ft\lbs, even at 1300 fps its only like 108 ft\lbs, that was out of a 6" barrel, which is not very good. And who carries a 6" barrel 22? If i was gonna carry something that size i would just grab my 1911 gov. I've seen the tests & I have been carrying Punch also but reconsidering being there is a lot more powerful rounds for a 22 easily available. It has fair penetration but doesn't expand either. 73 is almost laughable when you consider its literally the weakest 22 round by far; even from pistols. Too each his own though, just stating some facts. I have also found it more reliable than some other types of ammo & that definitely counts for something.
I absolutely love it. I shoot the golden bullets and cheap stuff in it all the time and it runs it all fantastic. The only trouble I have with it is when I run the Norma rounds through it. It don't seem to like them at all. Thanks for watching 🙂
When was the last time that you heard a bad guy say "You're pointing a 22lr at me?" I think the fact that someone holding is holding a gun in their hand will usually defuse a situation. If you're pointing a gun at someone no one will ask you "what caliber is that?"
My grandfather was a revolver man through and through. He carried one and used one for home defense until the day he died. God bless you my friend. I wish you the very best :-)
Im in the same boat with ya. I understand that both semi auto loaders and revolvers can have issues, for some reason though, I'd still rather take my chances of not having enough rounds, that will go boom, then to have plenty of rounds worth booming but wont because of a jam, limp wrist, mag fail, mag fall out etc. and even if the mag gets lost only few auto's will let you shoot singles with no mag. That mag safety is just stupid if ya ask me.
I have always had respect for all Caliber size bullets and I never ever thought that the .22LR could not be used in self defense of ones life! I do understand why most Gun People do not recommend using this round for self defense but having said this, I also understand that a well placed or a volly of well placed shots can kill anyone! We all have personal Ideas and reasons why we do things based on many variables when it comes to guns and I feel very comfortable and safe when I carry my .22LR Hand Gun with a 16 round magazine! So Be It!
I was really impressed with these results out of a pistol. I feel like everyone should carry what they feel best suits their needs and what they feel they can comfortably handle. Lord willing we will never be in a situation where we need to use our firearms for defense. Thanks for watching :-)
Im not sure what to do myself because I find that Im very accurate with my 22 but less so with my 9. Still a fairly new shooter. In any case I will continue practicing at the range but at this time Id feel a lot more confident in a sticky situation with my 22, as far as accuracy is concerned. I guess caliber doesnt matter if you dont send it where you intend it 🤷♂️
I'm no pet guy. I barely tolerate my wife's cats. Anyways, I wouldn't bring a dog to bang some rounds. I don't think it would be good for their hearing, right? Unless somebody surprises me with some dog hearing protection thing...
I appreciate your concern for my dog but dogs have been used for hunting, by police agencies around the world, and in military combat zones. I did not make him stay close by. He could have walked off or not been so close by. He chose to hang out there. It was an older video where we were up at the pond. He had acres and acres to roam and he was close by swimming while we were filming a range video. Gunshots nor fireworks bothered him in the least. My dogs are like family to me and I would never do anything to harm them 🙂
2 years ago I started using the Federal Punch Flat Nose 29 grain bullet , Personal Defense ! Good results on a store bought chicken out of my 4” barrel ! Try a box of CCI Velocitor and tell me your take on them ! I’ve fired them for years and never had one fail to fire ! They do have more power than your average.22 lr for EDC it’s a great round You are lucky the Remington Golden Bullet from a bucket of bullets even went off 😂😂 I had a lot that would not fire , changed guns still would not fire !
@@TheKentuckyPatriot You got lucky , during the pandemic you couldn’t find .22 ammo , some folks drove hundreds of miles ! The Remington bucket of bullets shooters started showing up on RU-vid with very unhappy shooters ! One fellow reported 40% of his bucket failed to fire ! It was bad and I went through it myself !
Oh, that .22LR is a favourite of the Mossad . It's probably not as appreciated in the US because y'all love big calibres and have the the opportunity to indulge yourselves. It's plenty potent enough at close ranges. The argument that's extended is, expansion isn't really a factor when one's putting three four five rounds into a target at eight feet or less . But expansion sure doesn't hurt. And good shooting. Dogs like you. That's always a good sign. How's the little one doing? Haven't seen her in a while. Well, have a great weekend ahead. Cheers!
I would like to meet the guy who can see what caliber the bullets are as they come at him.i have asked many police about this and they all say they are looking for something to hide behind
My answer to people joking about 22lr: Every gel-test all over RU-vid shows 12in to 18in penetration. These little bullet thingies are almost 1/4 diameter, and they rip a hole that is bigger than that, with a path of jagged edges. You want me to stick a 16 inch long, 1/4 inch diameter Philips screwdriver, that's been wrapped with a strand of barb-wire, into your body right up to the handle?
Hey brother I just want to say thank you for this very informative, honest, entertaining video, I subscribed and liked and shared which is not something I ever do. Even though I've never met you I can tell you are a man with a good heart. Humble, sincere, and just a all around good ol boy! God bless you as well! Salute to you brother from Gun barrel city, Texas
Thank you for the hard work on this video, and for making the info clear and usable. I carry a 22 because of a neurological difficulty, but I'm accurate with it. I use the same pistol you used here, and I'll be trying the CCI definitely. I used the CCI in a Ruger Mark IV, but that is a long and heavy gun to carry. In the M&P 22 Compact, Winchester 36 HP had quite a few jams. I wonder how the Velocitor work vs the MiniMags? Thanks again.
Many of the bulk type boxing of 22LRs like the Remington 36 Grain Hollow Point Golden Bullets or the Browning 36 Grain Hollow Points are less reliable but so far out of about 1000 rounds using both one misfire ( didn't look to see which one it was though ) in my semi auto pistols. CCI packaging separating the rounds in their boxes tells you they will be more reliable but more expensive ! If my life is in danger I'm going with CCI in a revolver for my CCW. Just my thoughts on the ammo.
Thank you for taking single shots and then showing the results. Paul does a great job in his vids, though my only issue is when he takes many shots at the meat target and then looks at the results. Good vid bud.👍
Hey Patriot; I understand I'm catching up on older videos, but may I suggest that you mention the barrel length of the pistol you are using to fire the rounds used. It helps making the calculation on velocity, without a chronograph. Keep up the great work. God bless
I just saw a video of a 22lr going through a car windshield.. and pass through the headrest.. pretty impressive..ps I just scored 100 rounds of cci Veloster very looking forward to trying them.. never seen them in real life before lol
Good video, I carry 22 Mag. everyday. My g/f 's brother teases me because he carry's a 10 mm. I tend to think shot placement is more important. I'm in Eastern Ky. and my gun range is in my back yard. Thanks for the video.
Howdy neighbor! I wouldn't worry about it. All that matters is you protecting yourself and getting home safe. That is the reason we carry not to impress someone by what we carry. God bless and I really appreciate you watching :-)
When I was 10 years old we did not have a lot of money so we hunted for our meat, pigs, ground hogs, rabbit, squirrel, raccoons, possum, beaver and yes, deer. We ate good and I still use one at 70+ years old. The Ruger 10-22 is a great little rifle and in a SHTF scenario there will be thousands of these around including parts. And, you can easily carry 500 rounds of ammo!
That Norma Tac 22 has a really thin case. It works best in bolt action target rifles and revolvers I have had them stick in the chamber of several semi autos. I think the thin case expands and sticks in the chamber.
For some reason they do fine in my pistol and in a single shot but I have a mag fed .22 and it don't like the norma rounds at all. It is funny some ammo works better in some guns than it does others. Thanks for watching :-)
in a CARRY 22?? IMHO....ALWAYS USE SOLIDS.... the HP is useless as expansion velocity is never met. . the cavity actually collects junk (clothing fibers etc) as it enters, slowing it down and DECREASING penetration The solid will go deeper all things being equal. The expansion he did get was from a bone impact. even a soft lead solid will "upset" some after smacking a bone or other hard obstruction.
I've got the Walther P22. Norma works great in it for target practice. For self defense I'd use CCI Stingers. 22plinkster did a test with CCI Stingers out of a rifle on a titanium golf driver and it went straight through it.
1. I have actually got to meet the Plinkster on more than one occasion. He is a wonderful fella. I have been a long time subscriber. 2. I would have lovesd to had some "Stangers" speaking of the Plinkster lol. I have not seen any on the shelves in 2-3 years. They are a great choice for a .22. If I can ever find them I would love to do a video with the federal punch and Stinger comparison. Thanks for watching 🙂
I also have a Walther P22 and am thinking about making it my EDC. I do not have a holster for it. Texas (where I live) requires a holster. What holster do you use to EDC the Walther P22? Do you carry a spare magazine? How do you carry the extra magazine... in a pocket or in a magazine belt pouch?
Best thing about 22lr is that even the boutique ammo is cheap. You have to have access to some serious coin to practice with something like Underwood defensive ammo in 357sig, 10mm or even 9mm for that matter.
I was considering a new 22 pistol. This does help me consider the efficacy of 22lr versus 9mm or 380, which I already have. The good thing, either way, I live in a very low-crime area.
Thank you for sharing. The description you gave of a projectile deflecting inside the body matches an explanation we were given in Vietnam when the M16 was introduced in the mid-1960s.
My favorite self-defense 22 long rifle is the stinger and velocitor... Remington yellow jackets! . 22 long rifle is not my first choice but I definitely would use it for self-defense if that's what I had or as a backup pistol
I feel the same way. I wish I i had some stingers to use for this test but I couldn't find any on the shelf so I just went with what I had. Thanks for watching :-)
@@TheKentuckyPatriot my favorite are actually velocitors a little heavier... Then stingers also I love Remington yellow jackets.... I carry these back in the 1990s when I used to carry a 22 American arms (not north American arms) px.22 for self-defense...(originally made by Iver Johnson looks like a wather..ppk shrunk down) .. very accurate and reliable.. I used to stagger stingers and yellow jackets in the magazine...
This was a good review I enjoyed watching but you don't need to test EVERY 22 round out there. Just wear a female ballet dancers lime green tutu that has pink polka dots, a purple beanie hat, bright orange PF Flyers tennis shoes, a yellow left hand and red right hand mechanic gloves. All the rounds will double in size and you will never have an FTF or FTE again....thanks I can't wait to watch you do this! 👍👍 PS my dads friend was shot twice in the stomach by a 22 rifle, back in the 70's, he died in the ambulance...the 22 is no joke, it's lethal.
I haven't been on in a while, but I always enjoy your videos. I consider your videos real world for the average Joe. Not all of us have access to these exotic rounds I see covered. My favorite 22lr. us Remington Golden Bullets they function 100% in semi-autos both rifle and pistol. They're affordable and readily available at big box stores. In the end it's shot placement and reliability that counts in my opinion. Thank you for your videos.
Maybe find an old beat up or expired Kevlar vest to put behind the target as a bullet catch. Good demonstration. Too many underestimate the venerable little 22. If it's all I had I'd use it.
I shot my 22 LR Bobcat the other day. I swear that thing was louder than my G 19 I don’t have to wear ear protection with the man my ears stinging after that bobcat and my 1022 is more silent than them all.. but I just wasn’t expecting the bobcat to be so loud. I’m a drummer and I don’t use protection when I play drums .. a little 22 Bobcat no problem I was wrong
Great video! Love cci mini mags, they run great in all my 22s. You might try out the federal punch too. Keep up the good work, repping all us Kentucky patriots!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate you watching. That is one type of ammo that I don't have. If I see some out I will try and pick up a box or two. Who knows might do a little filming and testing with them 🙂
Imagine you’re an aggressor who comes at my sweet little old granny wife. She whips out her Beretta M9 22 and quickly puts 5-6 rounds into you. Are you going to stop and say to yourself, “Self, it’s just a 22 round hitting me. Get back into the fight.” Who can tell whether a wound was made by a 9mm or a 22? FYI, the reason she stopped at 5-6 rounds is because she thought she was firing the Beretts M9 9mm.
These pocket cannon pecker compensators are all well and good but I'm fine with two Bobcats and six very, light and unnoticeable spare magazines. Now, a lot of my friends try to argue about "stopping power" and can argue a good point for hours BUT, I'm pretty sure none of them has every experienced an 1,100 fps, pebble hitting them three inches behind either eye. Hell, these guys whine for hours just hitting a bumble bee at 65 mph, when we go riding motorcycles. Truth be told, I think I could effectively deter a criminal with a CO2 pistol. AND... I have to agree with Bill Burr on this next issue. Why would you want to blow out your hearing in a close proximity, indoors encounter. After that first round, everybody in the house is deaf and you have no idea if there were more than one and have to rely totally on sight at that point. I mean, just imagine the shock and absolute horror of a sudden highly focused thud to the skull. I'm guessing it not very pleasant at all.
Very good test . Thanks. I would like to see a comparison between the CCI Stinger and the CCI Veloster. One has a light hollow point and the other has a heavy hollow point.
You did great job here. Wish you could get your hands onto the Accurizer by Paco Kelly - a well machined simple device that enlarged the hole on a hollowpoint 22 bullet. He also had it to expand the bullet so to better seal off and block gases from blowing by the bullet in the chamber, for greatly enhanced power and accuracy from a little 22 bullet from the Cricket 22 single shot rifle. Another version of his tool cut the front off flat of both 22LR and 22 magnum ammo, essentially turning it into a wadcutter and this also greatly enhanced the wallop on wild game meat targets far better than the original round-nose bullets. We already knew this from our retired cop friends of long ago who preferred wadcutters in their 38 Special revolvers over standard issue round-nose bullets. Whenever doing anything to modify a live round bullet in any manner one must realize this can be very dangerous if done wrong. Paco Kelly’s device was designed for safety but a person could still do it with too much force and cause a round to possibly go off. His last device that he made and sold was the simplest: A strongly built brass unit that held the bullet safely so the rim would not be disturbed and then the top rounded part of the bullet cut off so it was flat on top. This one worked like a charm and reminds us of how Federal Punch ammo 22 bullet is shaped at the tip. Buffalo Outdoors channel with Jason (another KY good ole country boy) did great videos on this. Check his channel out.
Great video…..A friend of mine in his 60’s was shot as a teenager with a 22 pistol….The bullet entered through his rib cage, penetrated his liver and kidney, and is still in his body resting against his spine…..Perhaps when the bullet tumbles they can end up about anywhere in the body…….
A couple observations: 22 pistols tend to be fussy about the ammo that will reliably feed, fire and eject. It does not matter how well it did in a test like this if it is unreliable in your pistol. I would suggest shooting a full box through your pistol before deciding to rely upon that ammo. Second, the velocities on the label are in a rifle. The fastest ammo I found was Browning BPR. It was about 200 fps faster than the 40 gr mini-mag, although both showed the same speed on the label. The BPR was optimized for a rifle because when I tested the ammo in a pistol, the BPR was 150fps slower than the other brands.
The .22lr is fine to carry. If you feel you can handle a slightly higher caliber, you could get a convertible bore revolver that allows you to fire .22 mag. The ammo is a little more expensive, but the recoil isn’t much greater, and it will penetrate a little deeper. If you’re practicing or plinking, .22lr is fine. If you’re carrying for self defense, the .22 mag is a little more effective, but .22lr will do the job. Also, if you are a new shooter, the revolver eliminates the worry of your gun jamming when you need it. If you get a misfire, you can move right on to the next chamber without having to stop to clear a jam, and that can be critical in a hot situation. I’d advise a revolver for anyone just starting out, or anyone who has trouble racking a slide because of arthritis or health problems. If you do choose a semi-auto, don’t get a discount brand. The price may be attractive on some of the cheaper ones, but a lot of the cheap ones can be prone to jamming. If the only one you can afford is a cheap one, at least make sure your ammo is top quality, CCI is usually a decent brand. Some of the lower cost ammunition can have more blowback, foul up your gun quicker, or misfire, especially in semi-autos. Practice is key to discovering which ammo is best for your gun.
I've hunted with my 22 marlin rifle at fairly long distances with open sights and have always been impressed. My wife wanted to start carrying and chose a glock 44. Shes comfortable shooting it repeatedly and stays pretty well on target. Itd definitely stop an attacker in short order.
Good video - amazed at how so many people have no idea basically all calipers are more than capable for defense. From experience, if you never shot or been shot, you really need to educate yourself. The best caliper for you is the one you like to carry. There is no “better” - that’s asinine. It’s simply preference. It’s like trying to factually state “X is the best song in the world” or “X is the best movie” - just stupid.
used remington .22, knew a master machinist at remington, been in the factory, watched their process. i don't know what their problem is. i don't buy 'em.
I don't use my .22 for defense personally. I use it for plinking and for fun. My son uses a .22 to hunt frogs instead of gigging them. We use the golden bullets in this S&W and they run well in it. Granted, a rimfire isn't gonna be as reliable as a centerfire but we so far we have had good luck with them. Thanks for watching :-)
I agree with you on the ballistic gel. Its not exactly real world scenario or whatever. I've done enough shooting, hunting\killing to know the results do not add up at all, maybe sometimes but definitely better test to do. However ill have to disagree with the comment about 22s bouncing around inside the body. I watch a lot of crime, homicide shows & one particular show a woman does autopsy's & i recently seen where it had happened & she said it happens quite often with the 22! I really thought it was a myth too but she confirmed that it definitely does happen!🤷 Also that 22s are very common in shootings & probably more people killed with 22s than other calibers. Anyway enjoyed the testing. God bless you too. Take care.
Thanks, I really appreciate you watching. I am not saying it has never happened but I have never known of one case in over 20 years of funeral service, working with coroner's offices, and medical examiners. I have never seen it happen while hunting either. So I guess my point would be if someone is choosing the .22lr this isn't gonna happen often enough that they can depend on it in a self defense situation. I wish you and yours the very best 🙂
@@TheKentuckyPatriot well actually you did say that, & im just saying that, yes it can happen. I didn't say "dance around in the rib cage in a star pattern" lol. On another note my family personally knows someone that experienced this. And its not uncommon being a trapper to shoot something point blank in the head & find the bullet literally anywhere in the animal. Im not relying on this to happen like its an advantage & hope no one else would either, its just simply possible; period! 🙄🤦 You stated that you don't know everything & don't act like you do & that's kinda the opposite you just showed me! Seems your mind is made up on something that is really your opinion, that's being narrow minded. Also stating something as though it is a fact with little to no proof using someone elses experiences. 20 years whatever, are you a police officer, a homicide detective?? You do act like one btw so ill assume for now you are, or wanna be atleast. Anyways that's being ignorant, saying something is false or not possible bc you have never seen it or experienced it, or someone else you know hasn't. I don't know it all, never will. No one does, its impossible! But i hate when people spread misinformation, its uncalled for in our world today! I was simply trying to enlightened you to something you may not have known. Instead you shot me right down! If I would have known you were going to be that way i wouldn't have wasted my time. I apologize if I come off rude, im not trying to be disrespectful or mean.
Grew up western alaska. A friend of mine in high school accidentally shot himself in the hip. Recocheted off his hip, took out a lung, again off a rib, then stopped in his neck. Old man had a friend die shot himself in the leg; bullet ended up in his chest.
I have killed hundreds of huge hogs with 22 . My first sow 200 lbs was 22 the trick is don't stop shooting, they are not optimal. Remington Golden bullet is trash, works but is probably the worst choice. Our of a pistol use CCI stingers.please listen
Very ineresting video. Id love to see same test with winchester silver tip ammo. They saposed to break up on impact. I carry it when im camping its saposed to be a 22 defence round.
Ernie next time you go to the range take 3 gallon water jugs with you. Line them up and see what happens out of your gun. A simple test for piece of mind.
@@TheKentuckyPatriot i got a box of 50 at wallmart the other day. If i rember right they was $10. Im actualy shocked wallmart is getting ammo back in stock.
22 LR is not capable for self defense. They are much too light and lacking in all respects in getting the job done. A 9mm is about as light as one would wont in a self defense round, yes a .22 LR will ultimately kill, but will not stop a threat as effective as a larger caliber. I wouldn't trust my life to a lightweight round such as a .22 L.R. total stupidity.
Generally I would avoid any rimfire for defense because they don’t always go off. Inherent flaw in rimfire priming design. If used anyway use a revolver so malfunction can be bypassed by simply pulling the trigger again. Paul Harrell did a video on this and I personally have had it happen at a critical moment. Centerfire much more reliable that way. Appreciate what you do!
I agree! I was not at all recommending a .22 or rimfire of any kind for self defense. I was just testing the rounds. Thanks for watching. I wish you and yours the very best in the New Year!! :-)
Over my years on the Police Department, I have investigated quite a few shootings. For some reason, perhaps it is the area, there have been quite a few using .22LR pistols, and one comes to mind from a .22 Magnum revolver 5". The first one I investigated nearly cost the target his life. A fellow and his girlfriend were having an argument in a motel room. He picked up his .22LR FIE Buffalo Scout revolver, cocked the hammer and aimed it at his girlfriend. She grabbed the barrel and turned the gun on him, he had his finger on the trigger and the gun went off hitting him in the upper gut region of his torso, piercing his gut and tearing a hole in his diaphragm. Instead of calling police, or ambulance she picked him up and threw him in the car, then raced to the hospital. I saw the car speeding and gave chase but when she arrived, before I was out of my squad car she had carried him into the hospital. I followed and investigated. The kid who was shot (19) could barly breath but quick action by the Doctor, who was at the hospital on another call or would not have been there at that time of the night, saved his life. The girlfriend (a real Scandinavian doll) was not charged as she was defending herself, the guy was convicted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The .22 mag call involved a fellow who had an accidental discharge of his revolver penetrating the two thin walls that separated the motel rooms striking the sleeping victim who's arm was in the path of the round. When talking to the ER Doctor he told him, he woke up when his arm exploded, being an oil field worker he though it was the result of an injury while working the work-over rig earlier that day. Another .22 LR shooting involved a couple of 14 year old boys playing with a .22 rifle that they had pulled the clip out of, not thinking of the round in the chamber. One pointed the rifle at his buddy and puled the trigger. The round penetrated his arm with enough power to fracture the bone and come out the other side. I found the round by stepping on it. The home was a mess and we were checking to see if the round had hit a wall. The shooter was referred to the Juvenile Justice System. There were plenty more with larger caliber weapons but these are a few of the .22 shootings I recall off hand that sort of meet the topic. 22's are not toys, and can and often do kill. Read FBI Static's on shooting deaths.
The graveyard is full of all kinds of 22LR victims.double r triple tap to the midsection and u r in serious trouble I assure u..it’s got plenty of penetration power to reach the vitals.bullet placement is paramount with smaller calibers to stop a threat immediately.
I'm just now discovering your channel, so a LITTLE late on this one! 😂 Watching this makes me feel a whole lot better about my choice to carry a .22 lr! I'm new to CCW. As a female and also being a little older and having severe carpal tunnel, I have a harder time with a 9 mm and even a .380. My grip strength is not what it used to be. Now if I can just figure out my holster situation! Ugh... that's the hardest part! 😢 Anyway, thanks for the video and info!
I really appreciate you watching. Holster selection is critical but can also be very difficult. I tell you what I did. I went to the NRA convention and tried on several different holsters until I found one that I liked really well. I have been using it as my edc holster for the last several years. It is so hard to buy a holster you like without getting to try it on and see how it feels. I wish you the best of luck in finding the right one. If i can ever been of any help at all. Feel free to give me a shout. I wish you and yours the very best :-)
The guy who attempted to assassinate Ronald Regan was using 22lr revolver, shot Regan a cop a secret service agent and paralyzed John Brady = 4 people with his 6 shots.. the round works
I have had no issues with the .22LR which has improved over time ! I’ve carried one for 60 years now ! I also carry the .22 WMR chambering , fine ctg ! Good test !
