Probably MJ's most underrated skill, moving without the ball and using screens. He didn't have to run like a headless chicken a la Reggie or Rip, but damn was he effective.
MJ has got nothing to prove. he's done it all. any other player would have re-rolled the tape and started again. MJ didnt. he's the best and he knows it.
If you're referring to the line about his free throw being good form, I believe he meant that one's form for a free throw is going to be better than an off-balance shot. I.e., it's good to take a jumper facing the basket and under control.
in addition to that, he was the mvp, got the scoring title and the defensive player of the year all in the same season. he is a god (not God). in the sense that, you can't find a word to describe his basketball greatness, so others choose god to described him.
Good question. You gotta pay attention to your defender early in the game. Most players have a natural tendency to either go around the screen on the top, or just follow you on the side of the screen that you went past. Once you figured out which tendency your defender has, you know where he's going before he even knows it himself. The most important thing is that the passer knows where he's going, and thus, where you're going. If he doesn't pass the ball where you want it, it's all for nothing.
hey, im JM, im white. im the oppisite of jordon. i want to make nba though. so thanks for these vids. theve helped me from the simplisest shots to the 3 points to half cort shots
Just like MJ said, Reggie Miller... He is the greatest moving without the ball screen abuser in NBA History. Watch his games and you will learn all screen tricks... thats what Rip Hamilton did and im not even joking.
Jordan has tens of millions of dollars. So he isn't doing this for the money. He has had great coaches like Dean Smith and Phil Jackson, and he wants to pass along that knowledge and knowledge he's acquired from his own personal experience.
@AreYouFreaL well the reason when you step back that way is because it keeps the screaner partially between you and the defender so they have to cover more ground to get to you and block your shot, so with any sort of a quick release you get an open shot
It wont be the first time he cheats that you do that move. After the first time does cheat, then you assume he will do it again because as a defender he wants to stop you and goes to that spot. On this second one you will step back for the open shot. It usually takes like 3 or 4 screens before a defender does cheat but after you get him with both, he will not know what way to go.
well im gonna try to explain...in the position mj wus in ur face the ball meaning the defender will be infront of u blockin the pass rite??if u go for the screen the defender (if he's cheating) will try to get to ur position faster so u will see him move ahead of u on the other side of the screen before u get to ur spot if u see that u flare( or side step lower to the corner of the court)?? kinda get it?
if your talking about mj, wtf????? he got defensive player of the year!!! he's the only player to lead the leauge in points and still win dpoty. DUHHHH
@YawningBoy when youre using a screen and you round the left side and ur defensive player goes over the right hand side thinking he could get a steal instead of fighting through it ,you pop back and take the shot another way of cheating is when the defensive player begins to go through the screen before it set which means u can just pop back and shoot the j.
@Anthonyflores91 well the defender is cheating, basically the screen is useless that point, if you get that shot out there, the defender is already on you. If he's cheating, if you got a smart screener would screen behind him and you just go back into the post to get the contested shot under the basket or foul instead of a contested 15 footer.
that really doesn't make sense, why would you go all the way out, if he's cheating.. he would be ready to block/contest your shot no matter how far you go back because he basically went passed the screen none the less he could of stolen it. I thought if he cheats and goes up taught, being a smart person you would go back into the post to take a post shot easy 2 points.
