Be sure and subscribe to the Farm Hand's Companion channel to keep up with the progress as Pa Mac takes an undeveloped piece of property and turns it into a small subsistence farm. Watch for new episodes regularly. (As long as Pa Mac's alive and kicking, he's most assuredly farming and filming!)

I love all your videos! I'm addicted to watching them. I also admire how honor the good Lord in what you do, and how your notes mention things that reflects on Jesus. I'm from northeast Tennessee and would love to live this lifestyle. I am curious as to why you packed up and left your family homestead and moved to Arkansas? Thanks and God bless!

You sir, are an inspiration to me. I am 14 years old and it is my dream to run a homestead, and be self sufficient. Or well, as self sufficient as possible. Anyway, i just wanted to thank you for you videos and good luck on building up your farm.

Hey there, Sharona, TN's a great state to live in; very different and fertile land types from west TN (where I lived...no rocks, few hills) to east TN (many rocks, many hills or mtns) and everything in between. You'll find successful homesteading there no matter where you end up. Very best wishes to you and your husband!

I've been cutting down loblolly pines, and using them for gateposts, after discovering that's also the tree that utility companies use for electric/phone poles, because of its resistant to rot, similar to cedar!
@farmhandscompanion
@farmhandscompanion 6 месяцев назад
They DO use pines for utility poles, but only after heavily treatin' 'em chemically, Ridley. But the loblolly pine is not rot resistant.

OK, when is the next one coming out. I like the way you do these. watched the first one, and then the next two followed. Now I want to see what you are doing next on your place. It sure helps me get motivated about doing the things I want and need to do around my place. Keep up the good work.

OK, now you talked about all these types of trees, and when you got to the Bodark Tree, my wife and I were both tryin' to figure out just what you meant. The we saw the brambles and the big green "seeds" and we figured it out. Those are hedge-apples! At least that's what we call 'em here in the Ozarks. They also keep bugs and other critters out of your house. Hedge-apples - God's own critter-repellent! Great videos!

That's right, Matt. In fact there's several other names for it, too. Check out my article on bodark trees at the Farm Hand's Companion website (The "Trees n Wild Plants" section) to see that and much more about this particularly useful tree. Take care, Pa Mac

The best ground contact timber is a bit rare, but redwood buries the other 3 in rot, fire and insect resistance

Other than firewood, if milled it'll make for nice boxes or crates (small grained and rather light weight).
