Honestly! Just because this video is made by some old mystic-looking guy, idiots comment about what a master he is! They couldn't be more wrong. Firstly, look at the Heath-Robinson way the head's held on one of his hammers (i.e., with a nail bashed in). Second, he's using a blunt, rusty chisel to hack away at the wood. Third, the fox-wedge technique employed here has cracked the wood of the handle, weakening it where it joins the head. Fourth, to compound this, he's got a shoulder where the handle joins the head. This is a notch, where raised stress can be expected. That handle won't last five minutes. The fox-wedged portion might remain in place, but the handle will break where it joins the head. The correct way to fit a mallet handle is to go right through, and either flare the hole to match a taper on the handle, and fit that through from the front, or fit the handle from the back with a gentle flare at the front, allowing the minimum amount of wedging to lock it in place. Any wedges that cause cracking will weaken the handle, and any reduction in section to fit through the hole should be done gradually, without shoulders.

Наглядно. И без слов всё понятно! У нас настолько не извращаются: отверстие в бойке молотка делают сквозным. Клин забивают с противоположной стороны ручки

Интересный способ, но очень сложный. На мой взгляд намного проще, и главное надежнее, просто сделать рукоять с одного конца чуть уже, а с другой чуть шире. В голове делаем отверстие сквозное, слегка на конус (как у рукояти). И просто забиваем рукоять в это отверстие. И она сама заклинивается за счет конусности. То что останется торчать - спиливаем. При этом площадь закрепления будет гораздо больше, и более того, можно сделать в месте крепления к голове значительное утолщение рукояти, и она тогда гарантированно не сломается. В последнем варианте можно дополнить кончик рукояти легким утолщением или изгибом, для более удобного хвата и чтобы киянка не выскальзывала из руки. Широкое посадочное отверстие позволит просунуть такую рукоять сквозь голову. Либо решить этот вопрос обмоткой шнуром, резиной, или кожей. Ну и конечно, клей тоже никто не отменял. Соединение можно промазать ПВА, и тогда получится абсолютный монолит.

This is a lovely technique, but relies on the tensile strength of the thinner pieces of wood on the outside edges. If that snaps, then the central column becomes friction fit. It is still strong. But may not be best for a heavy hitting hammer.
