This is the kind of game the USWNT needed. You don’t learn much if you don’t face adversity. They showed that despite being down they didn’t panic. They raised their game and ultimately prevailed. As for those who complained about the overall play quality of the USWNT, one has to remember that these ladies have not played together. Given more time together I am very optimistic about their future. In fact, for me, their lack of time together makes this comeback performance even more special.
They looked better in the second half, with some significant replacements and better energy. Purce had a good bit to do with that. Lavelle and/or Macario will help immensely as will Mallory's return, if she and Macario get well enough to play. It should be noted that the USWNT statistics for 2023 show the leading socrer as Mallory, with seven goals, almost twice the number of anyone else, and she did not play in the latter part of the year! Most disturbing, both in her case and in the case of Emily Fox, the team has to have a better concussion protocol. Swanson and Fox were both visibly injured and not up to the physical stress of playing. Swanson was allowed to continue and injured her knee; Fox was on the field another 30 minutes until she was removed. That's unacceptable coaching.
People might not buy it, but I expect it. It's a younger squad that needs to get experience together, but the USWNT has never lost a World Cup without then winning gold the following Summer Olympics. Literally the entire time the Women's World Cup and the Summer Olympics women's football tournament have existed, they either win the WC or win Olympic gold. I think that streak continues.
China is #15 in the world and that ain't nothing. Italy is #17 and just drew with Sweden, beat Spain 3 to 2 and beat Switzerland 3 to 0, and those were games that really meant something.
For perspective, the German WNT was ranked #2 when they played Zambia, ranked #77, just before the WWC. The final score was 3-2 Zambia. Germany trailed the whole game.
we won 3-0 against them the other day. new young players are getting time to play in friendlies so our chemistry is not there yet at all. i think our new coach will be able to make something of this, but definitely not our strongest performance!
Team China PR was very appreciative of the fans who remained after the game . I did not notice this for opposing team who seemed to have held a private party.
What I'm excited about... Consider this: Lavelle, Nighswonger, and Mal Pugh in the middle. Add Rodman, Smith, and Purce or Thompson at forwards and you bring the heat. Girma and Fox in the back. Why is Sonnet separated from the team in the picture??
The only reason I even watched these highlights was because I was hoping to find out. That's very strange. My best guess is she's sick. But she shouldn't be playing then. Must be something else, but I can't think of a reason.
@@alexgarbe1971 I think they ran up and she just stopped further away. It's a soccer team, not a marching band. Most times it's just the most simple things. Oh la la!
It's embarrassing that the US team had to come from behind to beat a team like China. The US players need to practice shooting more on target. There are no points for creating many chances that end up with no goals.
Of course, this comment comes from the greatest soccer player in history, who scored on 100% of their shots, of which 100% were shots on goal. Wait...who are you?
If you can't find Emily Ann Sonnett on the internet, then I'm sure you can't figure out how a soccer player just ended up not getting as close as everybody just by coincidence.
I know it's just highlights, but it sure seemed like there was little enthusiasm on both sides. Would it kill you to add some replays on the goals and shots? US didn't really deserve to win. China's goalkeeper is hot. If only her defenders could clear the ball, they would have won.
I wonder how good they could've been in the last world cup if they just focused on soccer instead of politics? Like maybe just focus in what you're paid for? That's what most jobs want you to do..
When did China become China PR? And if the announcers have to always call them China PR because it's the actual country name, then they should always call our team by their full name.....USA instead of just US
new generation need more teamwork, experience... we need Marcario, Swanson, Mia on attack forward. even win over China, but the way USA performed not good physical communicate. Sophia Smith was too slow react when she got a good chance... Any Way, congrats USA!
no, if you had eyes and a brain you’d see they had 4-6 starting players who were either debuting or starting their first match, this game was purely for experiments.. like how all friendlies should be
They are under coached in my opinion. They got good players but no tactics. They experimenting with different players so they need more time to adjust too.
@@ravegrll And there were players that haven't played competitive soccer since Oct 15th, like Ashley Hatch who surprised me with her strong start and then kind of disappeared. She's probably the best shooter in the NWSL and tonight she really tried to improve her defense. Just can't catch a break.
That's not true at all. The rest of the world has caught up and is catching up with the USWNT. The days of demanding triple their pay and putting forth 1/3 effort are done. You will now see fun and exciting soccer. You should probably follow a sport that's more your speed, like croquet or curling.
kick off number 6, 12, 15 out of WNT. They always not touch hand in heart when sing national anthem. These girls are shy at the FLAG and the NATION who feed them.
Announcer said, "China leads 1, nothing. Soccer/Football is NOT our game to bastardize the usual descriptive language i.e. China leads 1, nil... not 1, nothing!!!!
