Utah's largest truck load making the turn in Blanding Utah

This truck load is an Electrical Transformer heading to the new Windmill Farm in Monticello Utah. It is the largest load that has ever been on Utah highways. It is drug by one semi and pushed by five others to get it moving down the road. The entire load is just under 2 Million pounds. The entire rig that it is riding on is an amazing work of engineering genius to be able to move this along the highway. It takes up nearly the entire width of a two lane road.

Blanding is a DRY TOWN so this was probably the most exciting thing that happened in Blanding for a long time. Many years ago, I rode my bicycle from Hanksville to Blanding in 90 degree heat and all I wanted when I got to Blanding was a cold beer. Boy was I disappointed and to this day I still feel the pain.

The first transformer weighed in at 1.8 million lbs 413 feet long,19 feet high and 22 feet wide. This is the second one and it weighed 80k pounds more and is the heaviest load to hit Utah and New Mexico and from what I gathered from the driver this is the largest transformer ever made to date.

That's definitely a Big Load. Here in far Northern California, east of Hornbrook, some 10+ years ago, Pacific Power had a 495 ton transformer moved to a sub-station location at Copco Lake, a man-made reservoir...And now, the dam/s at Copco and Irongate are slated to be removed.....starting in 2023.....It will be that largest dam/s removal ever done in the USA....Klamath River is the much discussed subject. Several American Indian tribes have gotten that 4 dam removal going. They have rights to the salmon that travel up the Klamath River. The dams have prevented the annual migration, and even the salmon fishing near the coast is suffering. The tribal fishing was a big issue even when the dam/s were first being planned. The moving of that was about as big a load as this one in the video. 25-30 miles around winding, poorly paved asphalt and dirt roads. My brother lived there at the time, said it took about 2 weeks to get the transformer in there...some days it didn't even go a mile. he sent me some pics...3 trucks pulling, 3 pushing... I'm wondering if Pacific Power had thought about that $$$ before replacing 3 single-phase transformers with the 'new' 3 phase unit...but hey, no big loss, Pacific Power is owned by Warren Buffett...Berkshire Hathaway... The power generated never even paid for the dams, and barely broke even at the best.

I remember seeing something like this around 30 years ago. They were transporting a huge piece of mining equipment East along I-80 in Utah. They had a semi truck following behind with spare tires and they used quite a few of them. The rig in this video looks bigger than the one I remember.

J L this load was rigged and the transporter designed the way it was to spread the almost 2 million pound load to be able to clear bridges and streets with low weight limits. This is by far not the biggest transporter that has hauled a load, I’ve been a part of a haul that was much bigger even though the weight was less due to wear it was going through. Without set ups like this people wouldn’t get power for every day use at home.

The heavier of the two main sections of the phase shifting transformer was about 380 tons. The combined weight of the unit, trailer, and tow and push vehicles set state records for over road weight permits in New Mexico, Arizona and Utah. You can see more detailed videos about the move from China to Utah here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sSf8fG-UWrs.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DCJLe6FZP68.html

Lol... Well, I'm almost positive they didn't book this off some loadboard...smh. Pretty sure the manufacturer as well as the end user sourced a carrier, long before this thing was even built, in order for them to get the route planning and permit process, underway. Not to mention Intermountain is the GO TO carrier for this type of weight in 10 of the 11 Western States. They know what they're doing.

In Alberta Canada, moving large loads STMP trailer two to three bolted across, however many long. Goldhoffer with wheel sets required and load distribution. We love using tridrive trucks. Route planned long time in advance of move. This load beats, largest in Alberta by 20 metrique tonnes (long tons).

If the transformer was carried on the center section, it wasn't even 100 feet long. It surely wasn't anywhere near 400 feet. The center section of the hauler its self was probably around 200 feet. Compare the transformer to the men walking and standing close around it. I am sure it is pretty heavy, but if the length was embellished, the weight might have been too. If you are saying the hauler and transformer weight totaled around 2 million pounds, I can believe that. Your description and first comment are a bit confusing, with what can be seen in the video. I thought I was watching the intro to Spaceballs, The Movie.

Yep, that was a very big load. I find it very strange that they have one truck up front and five pusher trucks at the rear. Logic tells me that the Mack Titan truck should have been placed up front with another Titan truck and maybe two more at the rear. The Mack Titan trucks have more than enough power and massive torque, to pull these super heavy loads with ease.
@toyotacrawler84
@toyotacrawler84 2 года назад
It all depends on what they are dealing with. They cam move the from the back to the front or opposite to go up or down hills. They also have a massive ex military truck that is built for breaking only and is added at the top of the hills. It had like 4 ton concrete block on the back of it for traction. It was crazy.
