Awesome video. Add a teaspoonful of beet root powder and a little honey to your chaga tea for an additional health benefit. Great series. 👍🇺🇸👏

Great video Jake - very informational. Definitely a great resource for medicinal and fire purposes. It is a shame that it isn't available in my part of Ohio either. I have always purchased it online but have never had it right from the tree. I think it has an "ok" taste - very very earthy taste in my opinion. I put honey in mine to help with the taste. Hope you are enjoying your time in the tent. Take care.

Awesome job man! Some studies show the black bark has the most antioxidants/cancer fighting and health properties in it! I’ve got some old Russian literature on it that’s super interesting

Doesn't grow anywhere near me but would definitely try it. But I'm on the hunt for Sassafras around here for some tea.

Jake, could you make a video on how to gather firewood without using tools? IRL people often end in a survival scenario when they do not have any tools with them. Tools such as a hatchet or a folding saw

I wonder if it can be found in Northern Ohio? I have a friend that lives up near Michigan, but he’s not a outdoorsman at all and I’d never get him to understand what I was talking about lol.

Hey Jake, quick question. Does the variety that is found on elm and other trees that are not birch, still catch well with a steel or is that also specific to the acid content?

The outer "bark" is good for tea also, I usually break off three 1" size pieces and put it in my 2 liter tea pot and put it on my woodstove to brew. I add water as I use it and it produces chaga tea for a couple of months. It just keeps producing. I keep the pot on the wood stove and just add water. I drink a cup a day when I'm doing this. Also part of the chaga that is growing closest to the tree is softer and catches a spark a lot easier then the mid part. Been using it for many years. It truly is an amazing mushroom. I've also read you must exercise caution if you are taking other medications because Chaga can amplify the effect of other drugs. The northern peoples would burn the chaga and mix the ashes with tobacco to amplify the effect of chewing tobacco to the point it would make them feel drugged, a very dangerous practice that has actually caused cancer of the mouth. Like all things there are good and bad uses / practices. Thanks for the video and we will catch you on the next one.

I harvested some a few years ago, cut the outer edge off, cut into cubes and put it in a ziploc. Haven't used it since then. Think it is still good for tea?
