UTS Anime Awards: Best of 2020 

Every year the real Anime Awards doesn't disappoint.

Great to see Fate Grand Order getting some props, it was absolutely incredible for what it was!

I adore this awards ceremony every year, not just for the *actual* good taste, or the recommendations for series I didn't get around to through the year, but for the detail and care that help your love for the medium - and the creators that bring it to life - to overflow through every second of the video.

Is it just me or did everyone forget about the existence of Id:Invaded ?

I'm glad some attention was given to Adachi and Shimamura for being a great yuri anime and honestly you could probably count on just one hand the amount of good yuri shows available.

I am so happy Adachi to Shimamura won the award, I loooove that show!

I was kinda disappointed you didn't included "The Worst" categories.

Sad that the made in abyss movie ost didn't get a single mention, besides that this is an amazing run down of this odd year in anime.

Kevin Penkin's score for Tower of God absolutely blew me away. It also happens to really suit as an ost while reading the webtoon itself and some tracks really matched up with certain moments. Yes, I'm definitely feeling biased towards it.

As much as these awards are really good, I truly feel that it should have more than just a panel of two judges. Without the variety of multiple tastes the same shows cycle too much.

I laughed when Tomaruin appeared in the best antagonist, damn lol

It's so nice to see "if my favorite pop idol made it to the budokan, I would die" get some love! I loved the show and feel like no one else watched it!

I may not always agree with your opinions, but I can always appreciate the amount of work and research you guys put into these awards. Can't imagine how many hours/days you put into deciding all of these nominees, let alone the winners.

The production of this is incredible.. kudos to you, Jack, and the incredible work of Christopher. Much more fun seeing some diversity in these awards rather than the popularity race of Crunchyroll’s and the like. Thanks for this. One mistake I caught is at 42:15, “moving on to our Anime of the Year”, as opposed to the Fall season winner.

I stopped watching anime few months ago. I needed to focus on school. This video made me realise how much good content I missed. Well, I hope I can make up for it in 2021. Thank you very much for your work!

I'm so passionate about children of the sea. It's not just my favourite manga, but my favourite story of all time across all media. It's really special to me. the movie just elevated all I love about it

Great awards once again. Although i was sad not seeing dorohedoro (my personal aoty) at least nominated for either best of winter or best cast, i am very much satisfied.

This is actually my favorite Awards show every year. Its an amazing lookback and I always come out of it with a huge collection of stuff to watch.

My apologies in advance for making a comment that’s way too long. I’ve watched Under the Scope for a couple of years now. His videos are the reason I discovered some of my favorite animes which have effected me emotionally in many ways, such as Hibike Euphonium and Violet Evergarden. I’m sure many of y’all have had similar experiences. Even with all that his videos have done for me, the primary reason I keep returning to UTS’s channel is because of his genuine passion for the anime he covers. Admittedly, his upload schedule has been horrendous, but I still find myself returning to his channel once every few days because of the amount of passion and love he has for the art he features. This level of artistic passion, for lack of a better word, is extremely rare and what sets UTS’s channel above the rest. I’ve been fortunate to come across another man who has a similar love and respect for art. His name is Coz Baldwin. As far as I know, Coz isn’t an anime fanatic, but he does run the Tally Hall foundation. Tally Hall is an underrated band I am a big fan of. The work Coz has done has been a big help to me and others who have been positively affected by Tally Hall. Coz also has other artistic ventures, such as his own music and photography. Unfortunately, Coz is the victim of a rare heart disorder, which requires that he receives a heart transplant. He has been having an incredibly difficult time affording this expensive procedure. He doesn’t have any wealthy family or friends to help him financially, so he has now turned to the internet. He set up a gofundme where you can help him through this difficult time at gofund.me/a5d98c6e . Although he has been very greatful for the support he has received so far, he is still $40,000 short of the $50,000s he needs. His recent health problems have left him in a hospital bed for the last month, meaning he didn’t get to go home for Christmas or his birthday. No mentions of Golden Kamuy and the scarce mention of Dorohedoro are a bit of a hard pill to swallow, but I still enjoy your picks regardless. Legit look forward to this video every year!

Personally i'm a bit sad that from the looks of it neither of you watched id: invaded sakaido aka akihito narohisago is an amazing character so filled with everything and the real center piece of everything the story is about not Just literally cuz he's the MC But thematically as well

First of all, congrats to Jack and MrNiesGuy for putting this award show, amazing as always. I did see it was shorter than the two previous years, fewer awards given this year? I enjoy the lengthier awards, that makes it feel more award like, but i know is been a tough year. Winter season lost again, and summer won for the second time in the awards history. Spring and fall needs to step it up in the follow in years.

Dorohedoro doesn't get the love it deserves...It was so unique and I absolutely loved it...It was my fav non-sequel anime from 2020..

I love that you chose Amelia as the figurine for the award. V-tubers are really the thing that made 2020 great. BTW: Appreciate your love for Sakamoto Maaya as shes my top 1 since long time as a VA. And as a singer solid S tier.

i am so happy to see adashima and budokan get recognized. budokan put a big dopey smile on my face every week and eripiyo is SUCH a fun protagonist. it's a show that i see literally no one talk about and i'm glad you gave it some spotlight. and adashima - just....i could go on for days. as a fan of the light novel it was my most anticipated anime of the year and it did NOT disappoint. you were so spot-on in your analysis of their characters and relationship and i was especially moved when shimamura got best main character. she is such a real, subtle character (especially in the light novel where you REALLY get a chance to hang out in her headspace) and it's honestly scary how much i see myself in her. and adachi is just...a wonderful mess. anxiety in a little gay ball. if you haven't read the light novel yet i cannot recommend it enough - it is a million times better than its adaptation and i say that with all the love in the world for that adaptation. especially since the novel is still publishing and it shows their relationship progressing way beyond where the anime ends. it's on dynasty reader if you haven't read it yet and want to check it out.

The amount of work you and your team put into these videos is amazing. The editing, sound and narration beats pretty much any other anime award (and any award show really) out there! A real treat to watch!

Those two nods to Kyoto's works put tears in my eyes. Always love watching this every year. Definitely have to check out several of the shows!

I always waiting for this every year, you can see the production that has gone thought in this video and how it always beautifully delivers the enjoyment of the awards. We always appreciated every year and always looking forward for more. I think this show delivers more than other award shows haha. (my opinion) Throughout this year 2020 we have our ups and downs, it is a challenge this year but we must always look up to hope in the future. Thank you UTS :D

Ya know, I want to argue that Dawn of the Deep Soul should have won best film, but Eternity and the Automemory Doll is equally as excellent, albeit in very different ways. The sheer horror of Dawn of the Deep Soul, the spectacular villain found in Bondrewd, and the amazing soundtrack of Dawn of the Deep Soul stand on their own, but the art, love, and emotions of Eternity and the Automemory Doll, both within the story and in our own lives as we read the credits, do the same. Add to that the fact that Violet Evergarden is one of my favorite shows ever and I really can't say I disagree. Great video as always!
